Notes/Commercial Description:
"THE VAPORIZER" is a golden-hued Pale Ale that features a beautifully hoppy aroma and flavor. The malt is 100% Gambrinus Pilsner, our sweet and supple house malt from Gambrinus Malting in British Columbia. The hops are primarily of the Challenger variety, grown on a single farm in the Yakima Valley. We dry-hop "THE VAPORIZER" to pump up the hoppy goodness. It's an appetizingly dry, clean and pure-tasting take on a hoppy Pale Ale."

Brewed with Gambrinus Pilsner malt and Challenger hops. 6% ABV, 50 BU

A strangely bright yellow, when it was set in front of 'me I thought it was bmc haha

Smell is grainy bread like a bit of subtle pine. And cane sugar

Little hops, smooth sweet sugar cookies, lemon twang

Very light mouthfeel crisp very clean, smooth

Very drinkable beer, well rounded something you could give to a light beer friend and show them the light

Ok, 3rd attempt at reviewing this beer. Pours out a yellow/dark appearance, massive carbonation leads to a 2.5" head on the beer. So I decided to go and water the Nugget hops in the front yard, wait for the tipoff of game 3 of the Heat/Spurs Finals.

Aroma yields a decent amount of C hops and BMC 'malt' aromas. What I thought was Cascade, turned out to be Challenger hops. Nonetheless, you get the lemony aroma also associated with Sorachi Ace hops. Interesting aroma, unique, in that it imparts the pilsner malt as well. Wouldn't really say its all that large of a dry hop, and definitely not with something I would describe as an aroma hop.

Taste, more of the Sorachi like lemony aspect. Nice mellow mouthfeel, its got bitterness, but the lightness of the Pilsner malt is kind of a cool thing here. Pick your poison, is this a higher hopped Pilsneresque beer with an ale yeast, or is it an extra pale ale made with pilsner malt?

I like this beer overall, its nice and light. Where it might get pushed out of the market is from all the new highly hopped IPL's (India Pale Lagers) which offer more hop flavor than this, but have some of the same hallmarks (pilsner malt, dry, light body).

Dammit, Spurs hit a 3 before the half, 50-44 halftime. I haven't done a live review in a long time.

Had on tap at the Burgundian.

A: Served in a pint glass, the beer was a clear golden color with a small white head on top. Minimal retention leaving an extremely thin layer of white on top. Bits of lacing remain on the glass.

S: Kind of a weak aroma, some light lemon and lemon rind, with some grass as well. Slightly sweet.

T: A good bit of lemon rind on the flavor profile, rather zesty, with more grassy hops mixed in. The malt is a bit grainy.

M: Light to medium bodied with medium carbonation. Slightly dry finish.

O: A decent APA, but seemed to be lacking a little bit, was hoping for a bit more with a name like vaporizer.

"Heavy duty" half liter bottle. Poured into pint glass. Beer pours a shockingly pale yellow color. Seriously, it looks like it could be macro light lager or bad American hefeweiss. There's a nice big white head, at least. Aroma is floral and reminiscent of pilsener. It smells fresh, but there's just not as much hop aroma as I'd hoped for in a beer that so prominently claims to be dry-hopped on it's "Vaporizer" label.

Flavor does bring out the 55 IBUs. Very crisp and even a little tart, with piney flavors of hops, and the very bitter rind of grapefruit. Still, this is not quite the profile of an IPA. And the grain part of that profile is very much in the background, with a light mouthfeel, and a hint of unmalted barley.

Drinkable but underwhelming.

We went to this brewery (Double Mountain) only after we wanted to try another brewery after Full Sail. Not only were we impressed their food (try the truffle shuffle pizza) but their beer was excellent. I started with the I.R.A., and ended with, my now favorite I.P.A., Vaporizer. If you are going to visit Mt. Hood, Double Mountain is a must.

On tap @ the Double Mountain Brewery & Taproom (Hood River, OR) on 8/28/11. Served in a pint glass.

Pours a clear paler gold in the glass, with a ½ finger of bright-white head. This keeps some foamy edging and leaves back some thick swathes of lace that clings to the sides of the glass. The aroma smells fresh and leafy in the nose, with notes of bitter fruit and lemon zest that mingle with the sweetness of the malts and gives the nose an underlying tart twang.

The taste starts with a fresh blast of leafy bitter fruit (and like the nose, some tarter lemon character as well), which is nicely balanced by a splash of sweet graininess from the malts. The finish is moderately dry, with lingering notes of lemon zest and rind. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a smooth creamy crispness to the carbonation, which glides along nicely in the mouth. There is just a touch of warmth on the tail-end of each sip.

This was certainly a drinkable APA but the hop profile just lacked a certain amount of definition to it that would have left a much fuller flavored impression on me. This was OK but I was expecting a bit more here.

A: yellow. Crystal clear. Medium, foamy head. A lot of bubbles rising.
S: very mild women's hair permanent chemical. Nothing else.
T: lemony up front. Lightly malted. Light on the bittering hops.
M: medium carbonation. Medium body.
O: meh. Taste is okay. Aroma ruins it. There is not much at all there, except for a faint chemical smell.

Hazy gold with a huge three fingers of white head. Billows of lacing.
Smell is some floral hops and mostly biscuit malts.
Taste is malt all the way. There is a nice bitter hop hit following the malts.
Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation.
Medium bitter finish. Overall not what I was expecting. I am a Pale Ale fan and this was much more an uber Pils. Tasty beer nonetheless. Might try again when the weather warms up some.
