American Pale Ale (APA) |  6.00% ABV

Notes/Commercial Description:
"THE VAPORIZER" is a golden-hued Pale Ale that features a beautifully hoppy aroma and flavor. The malt is 100% Gambrinus Pilsner, our sweet and supple house malt from Gambrinus Malting in British Columbia. The hops are primarily of the Challenger variety, grown on a single farm in the Yakima Valley. We dry-hop "THE VAPORIZER" to pump up the hoppy goodness. It's an appetizingly dry, clean and pure-tasting take on a hoppy Pale Ale."

Brewed with Gambrinus Pilsner malt and Challenger hops. 6% ABV, 50 BU

A - crystal clear yellow, mild head, quickly dissipating
S - lemony citrus, fresh spring air
T - sweet upfront, light barnyard, citrus, with some weak floral undertones. Clean aftertaste.
M - moist, smooth, refreshing

Overall, I was underwhelmed. It was enjoyable, and definitely a solid session beer, and the whole is surely greater than the sum of the parts. That being said, I can't point to any individual stellar aspects of this beer.

I bought a bottle of The Vaporizer in a bottle shop. 1 pint .09 ounces, poured in to a pint glass.

Pours a bright yellow color, clear with a slight chill haze. The head is stark white, thick, creamy and resiliant. Many bubbles are rising in the glass.

The smell in a acerbic hoppy scent. Smells like juniper and dandelions.

Taste is a bitter pilsner type flavor. The taste reminds me of the way macro lagers used to taste when I was very young. A dry bitter biting grain flavor.

Mouthfeel is crisp and clean, but with a bitter dry character.

Overall I would probably pass on this one if it came around again. It's a pale ale but it tastes a lot like a pilsner, which is not one of my favorite styes. It's interesting, but I would probably not have it again.

well made and curious take on a pale ale. very blonde and hazy in color, almost like a wit rather than a pale, with a white head of several inches and gentle carbonation visible. the smell hints at pilsener malt, an odd base for a usually very hop forward style. its fresh and light and like a bowl of dry cereal. the hops are subtle, almost in the background of this beer, a touch of pine is all on the nose. the taste too is strangely grain driven, and strangely pilsener malty, more like a czech lager than an american pale in some ways. hops are again way back, and only really evident in the finish, faint citrus, white pepper, and new growth pine. its reserved, but maybe a little too much, i want to taste the hops a little more in my american pale, and expected to with this northwest offering. my first beer from double mountain is an interesting and perplexing one. not my favorite, but its quality has me keen to try more from them. easy drinking and light, a good session pale if big hop bombs are not for you.

"Heavy duty" half liter bottle. Poured into pint glass. Beer pours a shockingly pale yellow color. Seriously, it looks like it could be macro light lager or bad American hefeweiss. There's a nice big white head, at least. Aroma is floral and reminiscent of pilsener. It smells fresh, but there's just not as much hop aroma as I'd hoped for in a beer that so prominently claims to be dry-hopped on it's "Vaporizer" label.

Flavor does bring out the 55 IBUs. Very crisp and even a little tart, with piney flavors of hops, and the very bitter rind of grapefruit. Still, this is not quite the profile of an IPA. And the grain part of that profile is very much in the background, with a light mouthfeel, and a hint of unmalted barley.

Drinkable but underwhelming.

Poured from 500mL bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: light yellow hue with a light haze and a fair number of floaties. Effervescence is pretty strong and the head is a thick finger of frothy white foam with decent retention. Not bad!

Smell: grainy malt with a piney, earthy and lightly dank hop aroma. Definitely an earthier feel, but it's pretty well put-together.

Taste: quite malty, starting off sweet but proceeding to a grainier character. Hops are much the same as in the aroma; strong but not overly bitter.

Mouthfeel: light body with a good carbonation and a decent enough creaminess.

Overally: a very drinkable dry-hopped pale. As was noted by another reviewer, it definitely doesn't drink like a 6% brew -- it's quite sessionable indeed.
