This beer pours a bold, clear copper with a thin head and no lace. It's aroma is musty hay and fruity. The flavor is mainly sour cherries with a bit of sweet malt. The mouthfeel is medium and has a mild warmth in the finish. Allentown Space Monkey is a good beer, recommended!

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #42 (Jul 2010):

A lively pop of the cork is followed by heady beginnings and a lace that crowns the hazy amber brew. Sweet, tart raspberries, vague spiciness, fresh grain and a bit of earth are all present in the nose. With bold carbon- ation and a fluffy body, the raspberry flavor starts with a quick sweetness, then moves more toward tart. Light spicy character melds with the dried hay graininess. There is some alcoholic warmth and a hint of esters on the breath. This brew is semidry, slightly tart and has a yeasty finish. While the Saison does not jump out at our faces, it does, however, work. Good use of fruit.

12oz bottle from Abe's of Bethlehem, PA. Musty dark amber color tinged just the slightest bit... however it may be my mind playing tricks on me. Aroma is very yeasty, caramel malty and not much raspberry/beglian yeast at all. Very farmy. Kind of ackword aroma that is unique and difficult to descibe. Taste is artful, however unappealing to many palettes. Taste kind of rancid in my opinion. Mouthfeel is appropriate. This beer is just too style confused and it gives me a headache...

Maybe I got a bad bottle however I do not seem to agree at all with the other reviewers... This will need to be revisited on tap as a sample maybe. It wouldn't be the first time I've noticed huge batch inconsistency at BBW, ABW (FBW.)

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle. Has a light brown color with pinkish hues and a 1/2 inch head. Smell is big on raspberries. Taste is also a bit heavy on the raspberry, a bit sourish, some lemon and hops are present. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall makes for an interesting and decent brew.

A: Light raspberry-amber coloring is filled with a strong and rapid sense of effervesce. Even with a gentle pour the head dominated, an off-white ice berg sculpture towers 3 fingers high with a rock solid retention rate. Spongy dabs of modest coverage coats the glass for lace. Clarity becomes more dense with subsequent pours.

S: Even on the pour the raspberries were strongly evident, sweet and sugary with an almost fruit juice like aroma.

T: The flavor starts out sweet and sugary, quickly turning to a slight tartness of raspberries. The flavor appears very natural, nicely balanced with fruity tones and a low hop profile letting the natural raspberries shine. As a saison, better then average, as a fruit beer, good.

M: Active mouthful, bubbly carbonation. Nice slick feel of raspberry juice that was sweet upfront and tart on the swallow.

O: Not a fan of fruit beers, but if your gonna make one a saison style seems the way to go. While it loses something in translation saison wise, as a fruit flavored beer it works without being girlie or overbearing. Better then average consumption rate.

750 ml bottle split and poured into a Sierra Nevada tulip. 7% ABV, no date.

Thanks, yet again, to Beerwolf77 for another brew at our sampling!

A - A tall but loose off-white head billows up but sinks pretty quickly. A thin film is all that rests on the hazy, slightly pink-orange beer.

S - Thin and light tart raspberries on the aroma smell fairly fresh and real right away (not syrupy). Some very soft spice notes in the background but it's a very mild saison aroma if any. I like the fresh raspberries though.

T - Fresh tart raspberries flourish in the flavor but overtake all other aspects heavily. It isn't syrupy at all. Light pale malts and straw but no real spiciness in there. Way more of a fruit beer than a saison.

M - Heavily carbonated and medium-light-bodied with a dry and lightly tart finish that's very champagne-like. Nice for this beer.

D - This beer doesn't really have anything wrong with it other than the fact it's a fruit beer, not a saison. If you don't immediately expect a saison, it's fine. It's got a decent level of real raspberry flavor that's not sugary but it needs some other stuff in there to back it up. Also, why is this in a 750? That just seems odd to me. 12 oz bottles of this should be the max.

A: The beer is slightly hazy rosé-orange in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a thin white head that faded away leaving some lacing on the surface and a thin ring of bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: There are moderately strong aromas of raspberry juice in the nose.
T: Like the smell, flavors of raspberries really dominate the taste (similar to a fruit lambic but without any sweetness).
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation. The finish is rather tart.
O: This beer isn’t that great compared to other saisons but is something to consider if you like raspberries, especially since the taste isn’t sweet and doesn’t seem artificial.

Pours out a clear, copper color with a medium size white head of fluffy foam that left little to no lacing.

Aromas begin with It smelled of raspberries and Belgian yeast. Light biscuity, crisp, toasted maltiness but really takes a backseat to the artificial fruit smell.

The taste follows the nose with a lot of artificial raspberry flavor with a little Belgian yeast tart/spice bite. Not much more the the base beer, which I don't think it too stellar to begin with, is really masked by the sub-par raspberry flavors.

The mouthfeel is medium to light in body with medium carbonation; would prefer a bit more for the style. The finish was fairly crisp and dry.

Overall this was okay at best; to be honest I had a hard time finishing it even on a warm afternoon. Needs less artificial fruit flavor, more saison kick and a boost in carbonation to help enhance the dryness that I look for in the style. I cannot recommend this and will not be revisiting anytime soon.

A - Looks pretty nice with a good level of carbonation and a 1/2 inch of head that forms a thick lace.

S - Smells of sweet and tart raspberries, maybe a touch of lemon or lime from the farmhouse side.

T - Actually better than expected. Mostly tart raspberries and a clash of lemon as well with a bit of vanilla sweetness. Finish is crisp and sharp.

M - Light to medium drinks very well.

Overall I expected this to be just another raspberry knockoff but they did a very sweet job of making a farmhouse ale with raspberry flavors. Would buy again.

Hmm, interesting. This was in a corked bottle. I was expecting a raspberry bomb but was pleasantly surprised. The appearance was less pink than I would have thought. The smell was of nice raspberries and the taste was kind of basic. Not much of a saison and not much raspberry. It reminded me of a Magic Hat #9 but with different fruit. Mouthfeel was thin and spritzy and drinkability was very easy and smooth. Not as sweet as other reviews led me to believe. Glad I tried it and would try again.
