Updating review on 9/29/2011. Original done on 9/3/2010.

Poured into a nonic.

Pours a deep, dark brown-orange colored brew that has a good two finger head that is a creamy off white color. Descent lacing and the head retains very well, leaving a clumpy cover on top.

Smells of pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, a hint of clove and a buttery malt with some mild hop bitters.

Tastes of predominantly of pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg as well as buttery roasted caramel malts. Complex flavors, a lot going on here. Mild hop bitter in the back with a faint alcohol burn.

Medium bodied, but on the thick side, creamy, smooth stout-like in the mouth. Good carbonation.

In spite of the abv, this is is a very sessionable imperial pumpkin. Pumpkin ales (especially the imperials) are for me, one of the joys of this time of year and something that I look forward to enjoying. This is definitely one of my favorites.

A - Very heady like soda, reduces to almost no head at all.  Dark copper color.

Smell - A lot of spices - cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove. Finishes with a pumpkin aroma.

Taste - Solid hoppy start followed by a big spice middle. A good bit of cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove. Malty  pumpkin finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium body.

Drinkability - A bit of alcohol burn on the way down.  Nice hop beginning and follows into a pumpkin spice flavor.  Good pumpkin ending. Solid pumpkin offering. Would have again.

Had on tap. Served into a tulip

Appearance: minimal head, orange-brown in color, clear

Smell: cinnamon, nutmeg, all spice

Taste: pumpkin spice--cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, with noticable alcohol at end

Mouthfeel: sweet with slight bitterness at the end, moderate carbonation, medium/light bodied

Drinkability: I like this one and could have a couple glasses over several hours. Nothing that is too different than others I have had in the style, yet still very good.

Picked up a large corked and caged bottle from the Allentown Wegmans. This ruby-orange beer has a short head and slight haze. Overall, the beer is a touch sweet and also has a mild sourness, neither of which as I really digging. The aroma is dominated by pumpkin pie spices with a little pumpkin seed and caramel. The taste, however, has a tangy lemon element under pumpkin meat and light vanilla spice. Maybe it's just the hops, alcohol, and spice, but this might turn into a lambic after a couple years.

750 ml corked & caged bottles into a couple of snifters. Thanks go to HopDerek for sharing this one. By the way, what's up with the label on this? I know it's supposed to be a pumpkin being shoved in a glass but it looks more like a pumpkin puking on the floor. Blech!

Pours a hazy burnt amber orange, topped with about a finger of foamy light tan head. This fizzles out pretty darn quickly, barely having any retention or leaving any lacing back. Pretty dead looking overall. The aroma is fairly aggressive in the nose with the spices, but there is a still a fair amount of bready sweetness for it to latch onto and give this some twang. Pumpkin meat is present and has a bit of a raw veggie feel to it that is probably only strengthened by some citric hops in the background as well. Light alcohol fusels round this out.

I think the taste works a little better here, with a sticky sweet base of sweetness that helps balance out the green and earthy flavors from the pumpkin and hops and it all combines to give this a rather tart and tangy feel. The spices seem more flavorful here as well and aren't overdone at all, seeming to latch onto the more bitter notes of this. The mouthfeel is medium to maybe a little fuller bodied and is sharp upon first sip but then gets much creamier feeling as this moves out across the palate. Alcohol flavors are kept to a minimum but the ABV definitely gives this some heft in the mouth.

This was pretty decent and started to win me over a bit the longer I worked on it. The aroma was a little lacking but the taste got things back on with a well balanced blend of Pumpkin beer flavors and this was pretty darn drinkable for being a 9% beer.

a-pours no head with a clear light copper color body
s-very faint earthy pumpkin smell. but mostly dominated by typical pumpkin pie spices. clove, cinnamon, cardamon, nutmeg, sugar.
t-more earthiness to the pumpkin comes out in the taste than the smell which works for me. still has the pumpkin pie like spices but they are less pungent. more of the pumpkin taste comes out.
m-very lite body and low level of carbonation. you can drink this very quickly. be careful with that 9% :)
o-this is a nice pumpkin ale. the smell makes me anticipate a very weyerbacher imperial pumpkin ale like beer, but this one has more earthy flavor and less sweet pumpkin pie taste than the weyerbacher. glad i found another local imperial pumpkin thats good.

Poured from 750ml caged and cork bottle. Thanks to chefmonty for this wonderful beer that was included in the Secret Halloween.

A- Pours a dense and murky brownish orange color with some more brownish bronze color on the sides of the glass. One finger light off white head shows poor retention. Light spotty lacing on the sides of the glass.

S- This is a spice forward pumpkin beer. Light cinnamon and gingerbread in the front of the nose. There is a light bready underbody to the aroma with nutmeg and allspice being secondary spices.

T- The spicing in the front of the beer is mostly cinnamon and nutmeg which is what I expected. The middle of the beer is mostly a caramel bready dough flavor...with light gingerbreadish tone. There is some pumpkin in the back with vanilla off flavors that hint here and there. The spicing in this beer plays a good role in the front with the pumpkin coming in the backing.

M- Medium mouthfeel. Carbonation is a little prickley for the beer at times. Tons of spicing on the front end of the beer. Light pumpkin, spicing, and alcohol in the aftertaste. This beer is balanced for being a spiced beer with the malts and other flavors counterbalancing the spices. Medium drying on the palate from the alcohol. Clean tasting with no off flavors.

D- This has been a treat to drink. A nice balance of spices and pumpkin flavors. I was very impressed as this beer has been one of the best pumpkin ales I have had this year. The ABV is high but very well hidden until the end of the bottle.
