Picked this up in Totowa recently, having never tried this before. I'm not the biggest fan of Pumpkin Ales because they tend to be heavy and spicy but the latter certainly wasn't the case here. There was some cinnamon and nutmeg in this but not enough to cause a burn and since this didn't taste like pumpkin pie, there wasn't much of any vanilla or sugar to make this too sweet either. This was an Imperial beer though as the booze was quite strong and detectable from the start!

The pour to this was a dark apricot-copper with a moderate head and hardy any lacing to be seen. Lots of pumpkin in the nose, followed by the spices mentioned above. This almost tasted like a gourd once all of the flavors set in, with a chewy and cloying mouthfeel to back it up. Some booze in the taste too, as a slightly woody aftertaste kicked in when all was said and done. A nice, malty feel was felt from start to finish but I think there was too much here, as this was just a bit too overbearing for me.

I don't think that Pumpkin Ales should be this strong, even if they are of the Imperial type but this one crossed the line just a hair. I'd rather have one of these be strong than spicy since the flavor itself was easily worth savoring. It just couldn't be enjoyed that fast but given how so many beers of this style are close to being drain pours, that's a good thing. Not good enough as a dessert but more than worthy for this time of the year and full enough to enjoy on its own. Just don't plan on having too many in one sitting!

Pours a dark amber color with about one finger of white fluffy head that quickly disappears.

The scent is of a variety of spices; most notable are nutmeg, clove, and cinnamon. Alcohol is also very noticeable.

The taste is dominant of spices also, cinnamon and nutmeg mainly with some pumpkin flavor also. Again alcohol is very noticeable.

Medium body, a bit of a chewy feel, moderate carbonation

This was one of the better pumpkin ales I’ve had. The high alcohol content made it a little unbalanced but I still enjoyed it.

A: Foamy hed, with decent lacing. Lots of lacing. The color could be more inviting tho; lager.

S: Pumpkin pie and spices. Clove and cinnamon. Squashy. Vanilla. Raw pumpkin....pumpkin rind.

T: Yummy. NOT PUMPKIN PIE; which is nice. A malty, delicious brew with hints of cinnamon, clove and raw pumpkin. Clove finishes.

M: Chewy, and full bodied. A really nice coat on the tongue! Really nice!

O: This is a refreshing take on pumkin beers. NOT PUMPKIN PIE, BUT JUST PUMPKIN. Great job Allentown. I love PA breweries!!!

Pours a dark copper body beneath the ruby hues and tan head that leaves only a thin lacing around the glass.

Generous aromas of pumpkin and spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg float from the glass.

The flavor also offers pumpkin flavors with pleasant fall spices but the pumpkin in the flavor is more sweet pumpkin meat than anything else. There are also some woody stem and toasted malt notes.

Medium in both body and carbonation with a spicy pumpkin finish.

This is a pretty nice pumpkin ale with plenty of traditional characteristics and seemingly well balanced.

This beer is a clear amber color with a small white head. I am always intrigued with pumpkin beers, especially stronger examples of the style. This one was a little disappointing. It's a mildly malty, spicy, pumpkinish brew. Somewhat overspiced. It's not as warming or full as expected. Medium mouthfeel, but a little over carbonated. Not a great beer.

Purchased a 4-pack of 12oz bottles at Wegman's in Collegeville PA.

I won't pretend to know much about what characteristics are ideal for beer. I just know that when I drank this I tasted pumpkin and some spice, and the flavors were nicely balanced to my thinking. The spices were there but did not overpower the pumpkin flavor. I like pumpkin and liked that I could taste it. This a a beer I can enjoy with a meal or a snack, and wouldn't mind a second if I am feeling thirsty. Careful though, it's not named Devious for nothing - packs a bit of a wallop, so another good reason to enjoy with food.

12 oz bottle into SAVOR tulip.

A: a very dark orange brew. head is bubbly and a little off-white but unfortunately doesnt last long or leave a trace behind.

S: lots of spicy notes, but the allspice is definitely the most dominate. nutmeg. very, very spicy nose.

T: boatloads of cinnamon and allspice to get things going here. i know a lot of pumpkin beers have those two things going on, but this beer takes it to another level. there are definitely cider notes in here too. finish is spicy and dry.

M: moderate amount of carbonation. medium/full bodied.

D: not too shabby. big time spice notes makes this a pumpkin beer lovers dream. im still saying my all-time favorite is ST pumking, but this is up in the top 5.

P- AOH

A- light red and/or dark amber in color. Clear and head is minimal. Average lacing.

S- cinnamon, nutmeg, malt vinegar, clove and pumpkin. Lots of notes in the nose and they all go well together for what i want with a pumpkin ale.

F- Clove and cinnamon dominate the palate and it tastes like a hcewy pumpkin pie with cinnamon sprinkled on top.

M- chewy and heavy in the mouth. the spices linge and coat the mouth as well leaving a nice lip smacking flavor.

O- The 9% doesnt hit you until its almost gone but a good PA thats for sure. I bought a sixer and it was well worth it.

Picked up a single of this in a variety pack. Looks mighty nice. Lets see how another pumpkin beer does tonight.

Appearance: Has a nice, dark, orange hazy appearance. I would say just under an inch of head before it quickly dissipates. Very reminiscent of Autumn, which makes it look delicious.

Smell: Pretty heavy on spices, but there is a scent of pumpkin. I mostly note nutmeg and cinnamon.

Taste: Has a slight sweetness to it, but heavy on the flavor. Must be the 9% that is first noticeable. The cinnamon and pumpkin is definitely available here and this brew doesn't lack on the roasted malts either.

Mouthfeel: Medium carbonation. Nice, smooth body and finishes off dry. Likeable from the start. I would totally recommend this beer and may have another this weekend if I hit up any bonfires. Cheers!

A: A dark brown in color, just a bit transparent but barely. About a finger of off white head at the top, and a bit of lacing around the glass.

S: Strong gingerbread and cinnamon notes up front, with some slight nutmeg and brown sugar.

T: Lots of spice on this brew, strong notes of caramel, gingerbread, cinnamon, very unique but way to spicy for a pumpkin brew for my liking.

M: Medium bodied, lots of carbonation and lots of spice.

D: This was not a terrible pumpkin brew, but not my favorite. Way to spicy for my taste buds, good notes of cinnamon and gingerbread though.

A - Poured from a tap. Looked like a generic lager with a deep reddish brown amber color with a foamy head that seemed to go away by itself.

S - Smell is incredible! Smells like a homemade pumpkin pie! The spices are spot on and the pumpkin is insane!

T - Very heavy on the spice. Not sure if it's just the keg or the beer, but its very heavy. Like the taste of a slice of pumpkin pie, but dialed up a few notches. Very tasty regardless, but a little too much.

M - Thick and heavy, Very filling feeling. Very heavy and thick beer, almost feels like you ate a pie after drinking a few of these guys!

O - A very delicious pumpkin beer. Very good, but maybe a little less on the spice. Overall though, a very tasty beer for the fall!

Appearance is a ruby-copper blend with half a finger of head, most of which dissipates quickly. The light smell of pumpkin pie spice graces the nose. There is a bold flavor of pumpkins upfront with a touch of sweetness. The finish has an alcohol sourness that borders on the point of unpleasant. Notwithstanding the finish, this is the boldest version of this yearly offering yet.

Even though I lived in PA all my life this is the first time I ever seen Allentown Brew Works beers pop up.

A - Pours a very dark amber brown, clear with a 1/4 inch of sticky creamy head that falls to a good lace.

S - Smell is very nice I get the pumpkin (sort of like a squash smell) brown sugar, brown malts?, and a touch of cinnamon. Hope are there but subdued sort of citrus like.

T - Seems very balanced I first get the Pumpkin as sort of a vegital taste but quickly it's washed out with mild cinnamon and all spice, mild yet tasty. The finish sort of mixes between the mild bitterness of hops clashing with a brown malt base.

M - Medium and quite easy to drink despite of it's insanely high ABV. Mild warming feeling though the first few sips as a reminder that it's a Fall beer.

Overall it's recommended that you drink this cold since when it warms the hops become sort of cloying and makes for a weird taste mid palate. Fresh from the fridge though it's quite tasty! Lives up to it's hype!

This is a class A beer! period! I have had many pumpkin beers and this really is the best one I have had to date. Great aroma and a fantastic taste! Just really a great beer. I am surprised this isnt rated higher because I think this spanks Weyerbachers Imperial.

Bottom Line: Best pumpkin beer I have had!

As a fall-seasonal lover, I'm always on the hunt for new pumpkin-flavored beers. Though I'm from Northeastern, PA, I hadn't really heard a ton about Fegley's Devious, but then randomly stumbled upon some singles of it at a pizza shop in my hometown. Overall, it's one of the better pumpkin beers on the market (and I've had a ton - Dogfish still being the best I've had). It draws a nice balance between thin and malty, which in my opinion, makes for the better of the pumpkin ale batches. Imperial Pumking is revered as the best-there-is, and I think it's terribly over-malted and doused in vanilla flavoring. Fegley's, much like Dogfish Punkin, is quite drinkable, and you're not tired of it after one. It's a fantastic compliment to any fall occasion, especially Thanksgiving dessert. Great job, Allentown!

Enjoyed a 12 FL. OZ. bottle of this in a trade w/ ipaking67. Poured from the black labeled bottle w/ a Pumpkin smashed into the shape of a strawberry on the front into my 16oz Jack's Pumpkin Spice Ale Weizen Glass. Does not have a freshness date on the bottle but DOES have a Mobile Scanning BarCode for "Tasting Notes & Secrets". Very cool!

Aroma- Has good spices around. Not much pumpkin though... Sweet and smells like nutmeg and bit of cinnamon were in the background.

Appearance- Pours a .5 finger head that dies quickly. Has a nice copper body color with an orange tint and great clarity. Leaves no lacing behind.

Flavor- Very sweet with tons of malt and a small bit of spice. Pumpkin comes into the finish with a bit of hop character too! Interesting but not what I'm looking for... Where is the pumpkin!?!?

Mouthfeel- Medium Bodied, Medium Carbonation, Smooth, and has a bit of warming feel at the finish with spice.

Overall Impression- An average Pumpkin but would like more from Allentown Brew Works! Send them my way! An above average pumpkin that just didn't have enough character for me. Would like to enjoy again but on-tap. Appreciated the flavors but would throw many other Pumpkins into my Pumpkin Recommendation line before this one. Didn't even realize it was a 9% brew until reading the label more closely!

Pours a reddish orange with a 1 finger creamy head.

Smells mostly of spices. Lots of nutmeg, cinnamon and clove.

Starts out with a bit of cinnamon. Some strange malty sweetness in the middle followed by a spicy aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is a bit thin and carb is good.

Pretty mediocre. The spices aren't well balanced and not much flavor outside of the spice.

Finishing off the last few remaining pumpkin beers in my fridge. What a great beer time of year, but alas, it's time to move on and finish the season strong.

Poured into a Chimay glass. Mostly clear reddish-orange color with almost no head and very fine bubbles every now and then. Very sour smell- the most prevelant scent was a sour fruit (cherry?) with hints of pumpkin and spices. Smelled like a fermented pumpkin pie. Tasted strongly of pumpkin, cinnamon and honey, and the sour smell was mirrored in the taste as well. I tend to be a fan of sour tastes in beer, so this was right up my alley. Medium-bodied in mouthfeel with a slight zip of natural carbonation, but nothing too bubbly.

Overall, I enjoyed this one. It's not my favorite pumpkin beer, but it's a dang fine one and I will seek out another 6-pack next year. Definitely worth a try!

Pours a dark golden orange, almost copper, color with a frothy, pillowy two finger yellowish beige head that slowly fades into a lasting ring.  Spotty lacing left behind.

Sweet, spicy aroma that's bursting with a ton of pumpkin and autumnal spice.  Hints of vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon, clove and brown sugar.  There's also some caramel malt adding to the sweetness.  Liquid pumpkin pie.

Medium bodied with a blast of alcohol, pumpkin purée and rich spices.  Stronger than expected with lots of boozy sweetness and heat.  Abv not well masked at all.  This takes away from the sweet pumpkin and caramel malt.  Not as much pumpkin flavor ss expected but there is plenty of zesty spice.  Lots of cinnamon and brown sugar along with some nutmeg and clove.  A bit thinner than expected as well.  Doesn't really live up to the aroma, resulting in a watered down, overly spicy, boozy disappointment.  Not terrible but a let down.

Appearance: minimal head, orange-brown in color, clear

Smell: cinnamon, nutmeg, all spice

Taste: pumpkin spice--cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, with noticable alcohol at end

Mouthfeel: sweet with slight bitterness at the end, moderate carbonation, medium/light bodied

Drinkability: I like this one and could have a couple glasses over several hours. Nothing that is too different than others I have had in the style, yet still very good.

Bottle to Duvel tulip.

Nice clear glowing ruby amber to orange beer. Frothy off white head that fades pretty quickly.

Smells really nice, pumpkin pie spice are leaping out of the glass. Smells the most like liquid pumpkin pie of any pumpkin beer I've tried. Certainly nothing hiding behind complexity though, it's all out front.

Taste mirrors the smell, nutmeg, cinammon, vanilla, bread crust, and some dark fruits to remind you it's a beer. Very drinkable, especially at 9.00%.

Nice full mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Overall, a pleasant pumpkin beer that you don't have to struggle to finish.

Poured into a pint glass.

A: Slightly hazy deep amber with lots of tiny bubbles and a two-finger, off-white, fizzy head that diminished too quickly (less than a minute). Virtually no lacing.

S: Pumpkin, nutmeg, and cinnamon. I could smell it clearly as I was pouring it.

T: Light sweetness and slight bitterness. The first taste is alcohol. There is also a nice balance of pumpkin and spice.

M: Light to medium bodied. Somewhat smooth. A bit dry.

O: The way too quickly diminishing head and the strong alcohol flavor were a turn-off for me. I thought this pumpkin ale was just slightly above average.

S: Cinnamon, nutmeg, little pumpkin.

T: Booze hits you upfront then spices follow. Definitely has a boozier punch left in your mouth than most imperial pumpkins I've had.

M: Not the best. Carbonation is a little high. Has a weird gritty aftertaste that lingers longer than I'd like.

O: Not a very good imperial pumpkin. And at $13.95 a sixer, (and with an abundance of better imperial pumpkins) I will not invest in this again. Has a number of small issues that would need to be fine tuned. Not that enjoyable, and I love imperial pumpkins.
