Undated 12 oz. bottle into pint glass. Thick, creamy, tan head stays around awhile. This stuff is seriously jet black - no light gets through whatsoever.

Bourbon and chocolate and a very slight hops bite, followed by dark fruit (raisins or dates or something). Slight alcohol burn - this might mellow with time, but with only the one bottle I'm kind of out of luck there. Creamy smooth, thick, full-bodied. Moderate to low carbonation. Hint of caramel at the finish. Overall impression is sweetness, especially since that's what lingers.

My first brew from Allentown Brew Works. Good, but not exceptional for the style.

Thin. Lil light in color. Nice licorice and vanilla smell. Flavor is fine. Nothing is overwelming. But a solid imp stout. Just little thin.

Wow! All I can say is wow! Up front off of the pour all you get is the strong aroma of bourbon and the sweetness of chocolate. It pours a dark black with a slight creamy brown head. The bourbon continues into the taste which you may love or hate. I personally love imperial stouts aged in bourbon barrels. The strength of the bourbon aging definitely plays a role in the flavoring of the brew. It has a strong warming alcoholic sting to it as well as a sweet chocolate taste with a hint of coffee and caramel or molasses. This has an almost candy like sweetness that works really well with the complexity of the bourbon presence. The 9% alc/vol content is definitely detectable and I would say this is a sipper. I could also see this being a PERFECT after dinner drink or dessert beer. This blew me away for sure. I cannot wait to try pairing this after a meal or with a dessert. This is a FANTASTIC stout worth trying. One of the best imperial stouts I have tried thus far!

12oz bottle from BeerMeDuffMan (thanks man!). No dicernable bottling information. Served in a goblet.

Pours black with two and a half fingers of pale tan head. The froth lingers before settling to a modest ring that deposits small lace splotches.

Nice inviting aromas of vanilla, bourbon, caramel and brown sugar. May sound simple but there is something about it that keeps me coming back to enjoy.

Tastes smooth and rich. Bourbon, charred oak, chocolate, vanilla, caramel, brown sugar, mildy earthy and a hint of vegital bitterness all wrapped up in some mild alcohol heat.

Creamy, medium feel with soft carbonation. Notes of bourbon, vanilla and chocolate covered caramels make for a sweet, lingering finish.

Bourbon Barrel Insidious is a well made imperial stout. Quite good but lacking a distinction to raise it above the crowded field of competitors. I'd happily have it again if the opportunity arises.
