Received in (crappy) August shipment of my BOTM club.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Nonic Imperial Pint.

Appearance: Clear burnt orange with thin head and some minor lacing.

Smell: Citrus and grapefruit, grainy dry malt, some spiciness.

Taste: Mostly dry grainy malts with light citrus and grapefruit hops. Slightly spicy and bitter at the end, but not nearly as bitter as it should be.

Feel: Moderately high carbonation, light to medium body (kind of watery), slightly dry finish.

Drinkability: Drinkable but very light standard APA. Certainly worth having on the beach in Florida, which I'm not. (612 characters)

This review is just a placeholder for now, I will move it eventually. Gold pour with just a few white bubbles for the head. The aroma was heavily grainy, cereal, and just a touch of grassy hops. Flavor was similar. Some chalky bitterness and orange peel shines through but I dont know if I care for it. A good try but I was hoping this would be a bit better. 6/3/5/2/11 (369 characters)

Thanks to jwale73 for sharing this bottle!!
A - Orange/yellow. Off white head falls to a ring.
S - Light fruit, sweet malt, a little floral hops though a bit understated.
T - Sweet malt, light hops. Slight bitter aftertaste.
M/F - Medium body and highly carbonated. A bit gassy.
D - It's alright but the carbonation really hurts it. (333 characters)

A: single finger head with excellent retention on a hazy copper-amber body.

S: mostly musty and pungent hops and some sweet caramel malts.

T: Disappointing as I feel it is overly malted with the hops minor players in the flavor contributing mostly some pine and citrus notes with slight grass bitterness.

M: medium body and moderate carbonation.

Overall: A little overboard on the malts which is the discretion of the brewer but I like these on the hoppier side. (466 characters)

Odd snowflake-like sediment in this brew, though it's not bottle conditioned. Oh, well. It poured a copper/amber with a thin yellow-white head. The aroma was grassy and bitter. The mouthfeel was a little watery, as was the taste -- which began with a honey-like sweetness and then disappeared with a mild hop goodbye. Pretty drinkable, but equally unimpressive. (361 characters)

Appearance: Pours a crystal clear orange body with a small, white head.

Smell: Thin aroma of caramel and traces of citrus fruits.

Taste: Faint caramel flavor with only a hint of sweetness. Mild, citrusy hops. Finishes dry.

Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium carbonation.

Drinkability: Ah, good times and good friends. It had been far, far too long since the last time we threw our heads back and had a good laugh over something. (433 characters)

Best by date printed on neck of the bottle. 12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours an orangish amber color with an off-white head. The aroma is a little faint for an APA, with some sweet malt and faint citrusy hops. The taste is slightly toasted malt with some citrus hops in the finsh. Overall, this is a decent pale ale, but not something that I would purchase again. (375 characters)

This was poured from the bottle into a pint glass.

A - clear golden color with a thick head that settles quickly into a thin well retained collar

S - malty, American hops, some minor oxidation noted

T - typical pale malt flavor accented by hops to provide a moderate bitterness; hop character is not very distinctive

M - medium body, moderately high carbonation

D - This is a decent, but pretty average APA. This might be better closer to the source as I believe this bottle is probably past its ideal freshness - the hops might be a little less coarse and more vibrant. The small amount of oxidation would also indicate this and detracts somewhat in the overall appeal. (675 characters)

a: pours an orange yellow color with about a quarter inch of head that disappears quickly leaving a little lacing around the edge of the glass and top of the beer. Carbonation bubbles can be seen rising to the top

s: lemony citrusy grassy hop bitterness with faint toasted malts

t: sweet toasted malts followed by grassy hop bitterness

m: light bodied beer with a good amount of carbonation

overall, decent beer but i wont seek it out (438 characters)

Muted hop aroma is about all you get...a slight malty presence benath that. Light tea color. Nice thumb thick head. Mild hop flavor with a small amount of pink grapefruit sweetness. Way better than I expected from this brewer, but still not anything to get overly excited about. (278 characters)

Pours deep golden with minimal head.

In the smell I get grassiness, some hops, and maybe a bit o malt.

Taste: Verry bitter up front, feels a bit thin. Slight citrus twang with not much in the flavor department other than malt, and watery malt at that. Im not tasting much of the Cascade hops they list on the neck label. I was really hoping this beer would outproduce its ratings, but it doesnt seem to be the case.

They need to thicken it up a bit and use some of those hops they talk about. Then they might have a decent beer on their hands. Otherwise they missed the mark.

Thin, watery, and not too impressive. Living in Florida its getting harder and harder to find good local beer. Dunedin has the best Ive tried so far. (737 characters)

Good presentation. Nice coppery red color with good carbonation.

Head forms okay, but little lacing and leaves quickly.

Smell is a bit strange with malt and hop competing, but ending up with a smell similar to the kitchen after brewing rather than a brew itself. A little cheesey on the hops.

Opposite of balanced, somehow it hits you hard with bitter then hard with sweetness and the hops are simply too bitter without any recognizable aromas.

Still has the unmistakable finish of commercial swill. (504 characters)

This beer poured a nice golden, copper color with a nice 2-inch white head. Descent lacing present. The aroma was a nice balance of hops and malts. The taste was more malty with hint of hops. Not a great balance. Had a descent grapefruit sourness to it which seemes appropriate for the style. The finish was a nice dry finish. The mouthfeel was a medium body with medium carbonation. This beer was ok. Something nice to drink on a hot day or after you mowed the lawn. (467 characters)

Attended a beer tasting party recently and someone brought a Hurrican Reef Pale Ale to try...froma world beer package that his wife got him for some hallmark gift event. The Pale Ale was golden in color and clear. Little carbonation ane no head was present. The smell had some citrus to it....bought also some metallic waifes. The taste was powered by bitterness and grapfruit....so much so it hurt the mouthfeel. Not the best Pale Ale I ever had. (447 characters)

This came in the August Beer of the Month Club package and poured a clear amber color with 1/2 inch tan head; had a hop, malt and mild grapefruit odor.

Very light carbonation and a crisp feel with a mild hop taste mixed with citrus, wheat, grassy/earthy notes, a touch of malt sweetness and a dry finish. Zero lacing on the glass and refreshing, but a little bland in the flavor. A decent to good beer that misses the mark for an APA, as there is not enough hop presence in this brew and it seems more like a lager than a pale ale after trying 3 of them. (556 characters)

Almost Pale golden amber. Aggressive pour produced the smallest head with no retention. Looks flat... Very clear though.
Slightly toasty malt aroma. Not much hops in the nose.
Malty bread like up front, but it's quickly washed away by a rather one dimmensional citrus grapefruit hop flavor. Bittering finish. A fruity push shows up as she warms.
Medium body. Kinda watery plain with a citrus bite.
I've got a few more from Florida, and am hoping for a little better luck. Thanks to Hunteraw all the same for giving me the opportunity to try these. (551 characters)

Pours an orange amber color. There is a slight bit of carbonation, but it creates a nice white foam head that has nice lacing all the way down.
Smell has a slightly mild aroma. There is a bit of a hop shot, but not much besides.
Taste is a bit better than the smell. There is a bit of fruity hop taste. Very clean and standard.
Mouthfeel has a very crisp shot. The body is a good meduim thickness that one would want on a pale ale.
Drinkability is good because of the subdued taste. This is a very average and standard beer. Everything about it is stereotypical for the style. (578 characters)

A: Nice dark amber color. Two finger white head.

S: Sweet malt smell with a faint hop smell.

T: Very average taste. Slight hop flavor but very malty for a pale ale. It also has a copper taste in the finish.

M: Light body with moderate carbonation.

D: Session beer. (269 characters)

Pours a cloudy, deep-orange with a very small head that quickly faded. There is not much here in the aroma department, but it's mildly hoppy. There is a slight hop bitterness in the taste with orange rind character. Malt is not strongly represented. This beer (this bottle?) was very lightly carbonated and went flat after a few minutes. Date notches on the label weren't visible (plus the label only went up to 2006). Hopefully it was only my batch that was like this. The beer goes down easy and I could have several in a row if I wanted. But with the general lack of character, I probably won't. (598 characters)

Label has a best by APR notch. No year?

Pours as a light peach amber hue, chill hazed with a spotty thin ivory collar with a few scant bubbles rising to the surface.

Light aromatic apple hints with a bit of ginger malt.

First swigs: A well balanced slightly on the Tang juice fruity side. Some soft apple and dry finish. Needs more hop character, but it is a pale and not an IPA so this passes with a C grade. Some copper penny in the flavor, as well.

Feel is soft and nearly flat but still somewhat carbonated with a thin feel. Lingering apple butter tacky aftertaste. Needs work on all fronts.

Last swigs: Just a good ole unscrupulous ale that goes nowhere. Dust cutter at best. Drinking not thinking beer. Forgetable, but edible. Bought 1 bottle to try some Florida beer while in Tampa.

Beer is good. Happy easy beering. (842 characters)

Pours a nice amber in color with a foamy off-white head that reduces to a thin layer in my glass.

Faint vegetable aroma.

The taste is big on tannins and bready flavors. Big astringency, too. Decent hop bitterness and mild hop flavor.

Body is fine, with some heft.

Overall this is an OK beer. It's nothing special and there are much better choices out there. (361 characters)

A - Poured a golden color with an off white head that leaves lacing behind

S - Is of grainy malt upfront then mild hops

T - Disappointing like drinking a hoppy macro grainy malt backbone with slight citrus hops rounding out the flavor

M - This beer has a lighter body with medium carbonation to it

D - For an APA this is a very disappointing beer its just not up to par with other pales out there not worth the time or money to drink again (443 characters)

Pours a crystal clear copper with an creamy ivory head. Fruity malt and and herbal hop aromas wafting from the glass..

The mouthfeel is incredibly smooth and creamy but...the hop profile in the mouth is quite muted and not particularly tasty. Very little malt profile too, quite watery tasting overall. You could call it refreshing if it was actually pleasing to the tongue but it's really not. It's thin and what little hop flavor there is comes off as harsh and vegetal. Crisp finish.

They need to get more flavor in this one. The mouthfeel is great but it delivers a disappointing tasting ale. (598 characters)

I tried to sample the more interesting styles at the brewery. A little C-hop aroma. More malt that bitterness. Some lacing. Watery. A little more of anything to add to mouthfeel, taste, and preferably hops for some citrus hops taste. Redkneck IPA, sorry redknecks. (264 characters)

I'm hitting another Florida brew today.

I got a bottle of this and poured into a glass. Slight off-white color to the head - large bubbles, nice continual flow from the bottom of the glass. It left a good bit of lacing on the glass - but died pretty quickly.

This is a moderate colored pale ale - slightly more brown that I expected.

The nose is heavily yeasty - thick and bready with just a hint of something belgian-ish. Slightly hot.

Flavor is fine - it's much more lightly hopped than I expected. Slight harshness to the flavor.

I'm usually looking for a cleaner finish to a pale ale.

This is a refreshing beer.

I would say that it's not remarkable but is certainly serviceable. (689 characters)
