Appearance: golden hue, great clarity, thinnish layer of off-white foam that compacts to a thin crown

Aroma: fruity, cidery lager; hints of honey, grain, and malt

Flavor: dryish malt backbone with grainy and tobacco notes; grassy hop flavor; finishes semisweet with a mild bitterness

Mouthfeel: medium-light body, terse carbonation, somewhat crisp

Other comments: An OK lager, but nothing to spend time seeking out.

Appearance – Extremely clear orange in color with a nice head.

Smell – The citrus hops are predominant in the nose. They are supported by a stiff malt backbone and, surprisingly, some strong spicing.

Taste – The citrus hops and slightly-sugared malts mix very well together here. The coriander and white pepper are reminiscent of a BSPA and play well with these flavors.

Mouthfeel – This has good, medium carbonation and is a little heavier than light in the body.

Drinkability – This was a funny mix but it all worked out well.

Beer review from BA Mag Nov 2007.

This brand is part of the 2005 acquisition of Ybor City Brewing, and they tout it as a classic example of a German lager. Pretty vague marketing babble. Let's see if this beer has any life to it.

Shiny clear light-brassy color, some good stickage to the lace that seems to stay around for a good while. Hint of feed grain, grassy, bit of caramel, apple skin and a faint taffy aroma. Good smoothness with a light crispness and light slickness in the mouth. Dried grass grain flavor throughout, a kiss of caramel sweetness middle to end. Hops are spicy and balancing with minimal flavor. Touch of cooked veggies and husk stick to the taste buds. Finishes on the dry side.

Not too clean for a lager, the DMS (cooked veggies) comes out a bit too long. Subpar compared to their counterparts whom they are trying to emulate. There are far better import and craft lagers out there to even think about bothering with this one.

Presentation: 12 oz long neck with pic of the brewery on the label, no freshness date.

Appearance: Deep semi tawny gold with a healthy bone white lace.

Smell: Hoppy and crisp with lots of fresh grain and herbal hop.

Taste: Medium bodied, lots of slick hop oil and a malty smooth texture aim for drinkability. Hops rise above a little with a sharp bitterness and the sweet grain rides its tide. As the grain comes around it leaves a trail of vaguely nutty sweetness.

Notes: Good quaffing micro brewed lager. A little over the top for the hop flavour ... hell that is what micros are for.

This american amber poured just that , a golden amber/orange hue with a small and quickly dissipating white head. Smell is mainly of the malts, toasty ,vienna/munich malt and also a fair amount of hop scent , quite nice. Taste is also malty. Some distinct hop bitterness to balance. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a slight crispness to the carbonation. I found this to be very tasty and drinkable american amber lager , brewed in the german lager style. I'll have to try and get a keg from the brewery here in FL!

12oz. amber bottle courtesy of AKSmokedPorter.

Upon pouring, you wouldn't think it's an amber. Very light in color, bordering on being yellow. Thin layer of white head leaves little chunks of clumpy head atop the beer. Aromas are mostly maly sweetness with some grassy bitterness as well. Ditto for the flavor. Nicely balanced. Lingering hop bitterness. An OK amber.

Poured from a bottle into a conical pint.

A - 2 fingers frothy white head collapsing quickly and leaving some minor lacing. Color is light amber gold as advertized.

S - Light malt and cereal grains with just a hint of spicy hops behind, not too "lagery"

T - Pretty smooth, with a gentle lead in bitterness and a gentle undertone of caramel maltiness

M - Light and briskly carbonated

O - Pretty drinkable, if very average lager. Goes well with sushi, but unremarkable otherwise. I like my second pint better than my first, which couldn't stand up to the spicy food I paired it with.

Passable beer for a long flight delay. Yellow colour, foamy head. Cheese aroma head. Smooth drinking, very light toasty malts, average mouthfeel. Subdued sweetness with mild bitterness in finish. Carbonation is above average buty not obtrusive.

I've never had a beer from Florida, so I figured I'd give one a try. Poured from the 12oz bottle into a stange. Body is a pretty golden color, topped by a small, fizzy white head. Aroma of pilsner malt and lightly spicy hops (a hint of Saaz?).
Palate is sweet malt up front, with a touch of honey and the faintest hint of butter Ritz cracker(?). A flash of mild bitterness from the hops emerges mid-palate, disappearing into the background again amid the light malty sweetness, which actually dries out on the finish.
Body is light and airy, very refreshing and fitting for a warm-weather beer. I have to say, even in December, this is a nice, refreshing, thirst-quenching ale that's perfect for the Florida climate.

Bought from a mix pack of Ybor Gold brews and this was one of the 5 beers featured. Pours a slightly hazy pale orange color with a quickly dissapearing white head. Aroma is malt, biscuits, grass and hops. Taste is light and crisp with malt dominating the taste followed by a quick hop bitterness towards the end. Just not too much going on here. Will not be purchasing this again unless I find it on tap somewhere.

Pours a ncie golden color. Nice head that doesn't last too long with no real lacing.

Smells sweet with a little bit of bitterness. Not bad.

The taste is pretty good. Sweet and refreshing.

In the mouth is it fairly well-balanced with some nice carbonation.

Fairly drinkable. It's not fantastic, but it could find a place in my line up.

Review based on notes. Picked this up in Orlando while on vacation:

Pours an effervescent amber with 1 finger of ivory colored head. Zero head retention & lacing

S: Cereal notes & that's it

T: A bit of caramel, wet cereal & herbal hop up front. Dryness with more cereal as this warms, plus some honey malt & grainyness. Finishes grainy & sweet with slight metallic hop notes

MF: Light/medium bodied with okay balance & fairly on style carbonation

Drinks okay, but nothing to write home about

Received this in a Beer of the Month club and enjoyed every one fully. Interesting story about the history of the brewery, its transformation from Cuban cigar factory, and its storied past. Great label that includes a chart of its color, taste, and body (considered above average in darkness, maltiness, and body). A bit lighter for a nut brown. Would definitely be interested in trying more Florida Beer Company brews.

Poured from a 12oz bottle:

A: Poured a clear light golden color with a slightly less than two finger white head that dissipated rapidly. The head was moderately thick and left some decent lacing. Slight carbonation could be seen rising to the top of the glass.

S: Not much of an aroma, a little hops, that is really it.

T: Taste is average at best, if that. It had a light hoppy flavor, but it was somewhat watered down.

M/D: The beer had a medium body with maybe a little too much carbonation. Overall, the beer is really not that good and I did not finish the second one that I ordered.

I have got to say that I wasn't that impressed with this beer. Looked OK, and a nice malty aroma was a good start, but I did not like the taste. Sort of thin and sour tasting. Maybe this was a bad bottle, but it did taste fresh and was just shipped to me. Didn't really have much of a pleasent body either.

Pours golden with minimal white head that dies immediatly. Smells grainy and, like water. Taste is mildly refreshing with grain and water and a hint of something that might be malt. Smooth and thin in the mouth. If you dont need taste and want something that can go down quick and easy, this could do it.

Poured a bright gold (well, that is quite a surprise). Aroma was slightly phenolic with a touch of metal, not off to a great start. Started off with some grainy sweetness that I thought was going to devolve into a corn-adjunct flavor, but the beer managed to keep it together and sailed through to a moderately bittersweet finish. The middle was noteworthy for some rather tart dryness, and the finish was fairly clean. Pleasant, and easy drinking.

On the pour a clear gold with the head modest in size and a frothy white color after its evaporation, the resultant lace a thin curtain to drape the glass. Nose is malt laden and sweet, fresh and crisp with the start sweet with a fair grain profile, the top light. Finish adequately hopped and minimally acidic with a dry aftertaste, just a tad to sweet overall for me.
