Was given a couple of these beers from a friend who got them in a multi-pack. He didn't like it and was looking to pawn it off - bad sign #1.

Then I looked at the label, and saw it it was printed with a "best before" date that ended in 2005 and was not notched. Either it is a very old beer, or they just chose not to bother notching it, or perhaps both. Bad sign #2.

Tasted it. Bland, thin, and largely flavorless save for a faint sourness on the tongue. Bad signs now make sense.

The label still has the picture of the original brewery that made this product in a renovated cigar factory in Tampa in the late 90's. It's now contract brewed by some outfit in Melbourne. Overall a poor excuse for a beer. Avoid it at all costs.

Bought in a variety pack which included, this selection, Gaspar's Porter, Light, Brown Ale, and their Amber. All around pretty decent beers, not one in the pack I didn't not enjoy.

We are the orange capital of the U.S. can I get a little of that flavor in my beer like typical wheat. I taste more of a bitter, sour-like lambic; almost a Gueze, definately not a wheat. Leaves mouth very dry.

Pours a clear straw colored yellow with a quickly dissapearing head. Aroma is very clean with grain and maybe the slightest hints of lemon zest and hops. Taste is much like the aroma in that there is not much going on. Clean and crisp taste with some grain and followed by a subtle spicey hop finish. Even though I am not a huge fan of American Wheats, this is just not a very good brew in my opinion.

Very light yellow, somewhat glowing straw, thin white top, minimal lace. Nothing pretty. Smell is lightly wheaty and crispy clean with some grains. Taste is minimal wheaty lightness of quick sweet twinge, light textured grain and crisp. Nothin much happenin'. Feel is lighter bodied but getting close to full textured in the middle but doesn't last, otherwise quite empty with a very slight hoppy aftertaste in the finish. No sir I didn't like it.

Ybor Gold Wheat Ale pours a hazy golden color with a thick white head from a brown twelve ounce bottle. Kind of a sour aroma hits first, then I can smell some wheat. I can taste a bit of caramel malt I believe and there's a bit of a sour taste that I think is supposed to be citrus. Not well balanced, I would like more of a wheat flavor for something calling itself a wheat ale.

The last of the sampler pack I picked up. Served chilled in a goblet glass. Poured a pale, hazy yellow. Smelled a little of grains and kind of sour dough, not much malt presence. Tasted meek of spicey hops and a little wheat, kind of a bitter, tart after taste but not as complex as I hoped.

From a 12 oz bottle from the Ybor multipack, "June" notched on the freshness date, though quite alarmingly, only "03, 04, and 05" were listed for years. I'm assuming "2007." Into the pint glass, a clear orangish color with few bubbles, very anemic head of what foam that rapidly vanishes. Reminiscent of orange Kool-Aid. Nose is bready wheat and not much else. Taste is mild, middle-sweet malt up front with subtle hops and a light bitter finish, very sweet ale-like. Mouth is watery, lightly carbonated and a bit sticky. Drinkability is OK; it’s pretty smooth and agreeable, but overall unremarkable.

Overall: Nothing remarkable, and very little “wheat” character.

12oz single, from BIF across america and BRoss42

appearance: pours a clear and bubbly pale dull golden colour, foamy beige head forms and has minimal retention...only a thin layer of lacing left behind

smell: strong wet wheat aroma comes through, strong lemon zest whiff, clean and floral

taste: the smell wasn't overwhelming but the taste really didnt follow through...finishes quite grainy, kind of watery with a lemony aftertaste, fair amount of hop bitterness, wheat is not as pronounced

mouthfeel: a bit thin, clean

drinkability: quite so

I bought this brew as part of a 15 beer Ybor mix pack. Poured a medium shade of gold with a thin white head and thin lacing.

The smell is of wheat barley and bit of citrus. The drink is pretty good, a little thin on taste, but very drinkable. The finish is a little strange, definitely taste the citrus influence. I think this beer would be quite tasty on a hot Florida afternoon.

Got this and some other Ybor beers in a sampler pack , priced right at 10 dollars for 15 beers . ( 3 each of 5 different brews)

Appearance: Poured a paler yellow with a dense head of half an inch that stuck around.

Smell: grainy and slightly tart with a hint of spicyness.

Taste: tart , crisp grain and bit of spicy hop in the finish.

Mouthfeel: crisp and carbonated.

Drinkability: A very drinkable wheat ale , flavors could be more pronounced but its nice on a hot florida day.

Poured from 12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a straw yellow, faded and cloudy. 1-2 fingers thick creamy lasting foam. Modest if any smell, some hop in there, otherwise grainy. Taste is like a light wheat beer. Hard to really put words around it, it comes, it goes, and doesn't leave much for you to think about.

A nice drinkable ale, though certainly not memorable.

Presentation: 12 oz brown, with a tropical backround on the label, its dubbed as "a golden tropical ale". Freshness date is clearly notched.

Appearance: Pale straw yellow, rich dense semi rocky head ... very nice head retention.

Smell: Clean with hints of grain.

Taste: Very crisp with a sharp grain and spicy hop bitterness bite that mellows out quickly. Faint soft tartness from the wheat sports off its light body. Little other than grain in the finish.

Notes: Not a bad brew, nothing to write home about though still a very drinkable ale.

12oz. amber bottle courtesy of AKSmokedPorter.

Poured a dull yellow-gold in color with a fast-disappearing white head that ends up being just a ring around the glass. Sparse lacing. Aromas are subdued (at best), though a bit of "wheaty" scent comes through. Flavor is understated as well. Decent base of a mild hefe, balanced with a dash of bitterness at the end. Mouthfeel is borderline thin, but carbonation level helps keep this one afloat. Drinkable, but nothing that I'd earnestly seek out again. An interesting style, but that's about it.

This pale ale pours nicely golden yellow, builds a quick head that disappears almost immediately and leaves no lace at all ( a good thing as far as I'm concerned).
A slightly citrusy, hoppy nose, not strong but pleasant.
Carbonation tingles the tip of the tongue, with a noticeable note of the alcohol releasing.
Mouthfeel is relatively light, citrusy, some hops, but not too bitter, smooth.
Drinks quite nicely. A good, well-balanced pale ale with a nice summery tropical taste, great for picnics, barbeques or just sitting around sharing with friends. A good choice to get people started on the long, fun trip away from meagbrews and into real beer as it isn't too different from what they know, but quite a bit better.
