At pouring, it filled the glass with a nice head and flowing bubbles, settling slowly. As it did, I took a deep inhale to capture the escaping aroma. The smell was good, thick and rich but not overpowering. Kinda what I'd expect. The appearance was dark with reddish hues. The taste was better than I had expected, but I was happy, nontheless. An average mouthfeel, I could certainly drink several in one sitting.

Presentation: 12 oz brown long neck with a old time pub scene on the label. Freshness date clearly marked.

Appearance: Copper going towards brown in color. Even yet thin tan lace adorns the brew.

Smell: Nutty and earthy grain with hints of coffee.

Taste: First though to mind is steely crystal(caramel) malt though not in excess. Though chocolate malt comes into mind with a coffee/carob characteristics. Hop bitterness is evident yet does not clash in any way. Middle to end of this medium bodied brew is a mix of caramel and chicory which mostly dries up in the finish.

Notes: Cellar temp. is a must with this brew for optimal flavour, the malt profile absolutly shines when tasted at around 50*-55*F. Good session ale.

Clear brown with an off-white head, little retention and lacing. There are some very sweet malt and toffee aromas going on in this which I found to be pretty good. First taste is a little light, but some nice sweet flavors come through quickly and finishes with a bit of nutty flavors. Medium carbonation and body. Thanks to Degarth for the bottle.

Pours a reddish brown with light , thin head. Smells of nuttyness and slight malt. Taste is mellow with some nut and very slight chocolate with a bit of a bite as swallowed. Malt flavors become more present as it warms. Mouthfeel is fairly thin/meduim . I thought this was a pretty good beer and i could drink it often. Would be nice to have a big session with this one.

Poured a deep, clear copper color with a short-lived off-white head quickly bubbles away into nothing. Aromas are choco-nut. On the sweet side. Flavor got better as it warmed. Sweetness on the front side, middle picks up more of the chocolate, and the finish is nicely balanced. A mix of caramel sweetness and bitterness. Decently smooth mouthfeel. Session beer.

Thanks to AKSmokedPorter for this one.

I don't get what the gold part of this brown ale is. It looks brown with a current or red running through it. Aroma was typical unexceptional brown ale wood and malt.

Taste, a mild brown, it was smooth. No hops, probably comes close to fitting that lame traditional 4% session definition or whatnot. Doesn't tire the palate out with much heft, alcohol or hops. Usual stuff, nutty, caramel, toffee in here.

In college, I was a big fan of English Browns. Since those days, I've not been too big on them. I drink a Newcastle Brown every now and then, when there's really not much else. I guess the sweet, nutty flavor just isn't my thing anymore.

Saying that - this is not a bad beer. It fills pretty much all of the above but it's a bit better than your Newky. It was a bit sweet and I was really ok with just having one. I guess if you're big into Browns this will do you well.

Pours a dark brown with a quickly dissapearing white head. Smell is faint with grain small hints of caramel and coffee. Taste is a little overly watered down with roasted coffee, a little caramel and a slight hop bitterness to finish. This is not a bad brew, it just does not even come close to some of the top Brown Ale's out there. Okay but nothing special.

Pours a clear medium brown with minimal head, which quickly recedes to a film. Very little aroma to speak of, perhaps some very light malty tones. Flavor is better than expected from the smell. Malty with very slight hop bitterness and nearly imperceptible roasted notes. Very light in the mouth. An easy-to-drink, but extremely gun-shy brown ale.

Poured from 12 oz bottle into pint glass.

Pours a copper brown color, fairly light. Very little initial white foam, with quick dissipation. Smell is lightly nutty, hints of caramel.

Taste is lightl sweet, barely crosses to sour but holds. Clean, little carbonation. Coffee and nut notes.

Overall a decent brown brew.

The body is pale garnet in. Starts with a decent head that quickly fades. Thin lace that also moves on fast. Mildly sweet and roasted malts. Strong malt flavor actually with a decent nuttiness. Seems just a fraction high on the carbonation. Overall decently drinkable.

Reddish brown, rusty color, some head that disappears quickly, no lacing. Looks a bit thin. Nose is sweet and malty, sliiiightly nutty. It's quite potent, actually. Also getting a little bit of alcohol in the nose, as well as some prunes.

Taste is a little muted compared to the nose, and finishes with a bitter hops flavor. I was hoping for a liiiittle more after the nose.

Mouthfeel is a lil thin, a little sudsy. Over all, this is pretty drinkable- goes down easy, isn't overpowering, probably a good session brew.

Malt forward brown ale with well rounded flavors. Mouthfeel is thicker then would expect just basing it off the look. Solid brown ale.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a 20oz imperial pint. Thanks to neubernie for the hook-up!

Best before 5/11/08. Waaay past the best by date!

A: Pours a faintly hazy golden brown color with a small and bubbly off-white head that leaves just a touch of lace.

S: Nice nutty aroma, with a healthy helping of caramel, coffee, and chocolate.

T: See above. Toasty malt, caramel, chocolate, nut, toffee, earthy hops, and coffee.

M: Crisp and full with a nice coating sensation. Slightly prickly hoppy finish.

D: Pretty good and darn sessionable. Given that this was about 7 months past the best by date, I was expecting this to be drainpour. This beer, however, aged especially well. Nice surprise!

Added this brew to Indian River since it now produced by them in Melbourne, FL for the Florida Beer Co.

Light brown color with a low-moderate off-white/beige head. Big nutty brown malt aroma and flavor; nut brown dominates without being sweet at all. Also has a bit of roastiness. Light bodied and a nice roasty nutty character -- A good session Brown.

Into a mug, pours a deep copper brown with fizzy whitish head that fades to nothing, pretty boring, and very little lacing. Aroma is a bit weak, an earthy nut and faint chocolate malt is all I'm getting. Taste is better, but not by much, a nice blend of mild hopping and something like chocolate malt, but its really kind of vague, the flavors not really developed, just kind of a mash of stuff that should be good but ends up muttled and actually a bit weak. Add to that a thinner body than expected, and I'll drink the rest I have with no problem, but only cause I already have it. A very average beer indeed.
