Bottle sampled at the brewery. Medium yellow, carbonation bubbles, and some head. Basic beer, malt job and a bit of taste though a beer smell. Light mouthfeel, overcarbonated. Redkneck beer again. I don't really want this on a hot day unless the water supply is infected.

Pours a somewhat dark golden with a sloppy head and some spotty lacing. The head fades quickly to a loose ring. Smells of cooked corn and soap, and perhaps some other boiled vegetables. The corn and boiled vegetables are also heavily present in the flavor- and not much else. Soapy mouthfeel. Quite slick and not pleasant. If you like creamed corn with a topper of overboiled brocolli you'll love this beer!

Very light amber color, with a soft frothy head. Moderately fruity nose with some light malt. Taste is pleasant though uncomplex, with some faint caramel sweetness, a light toasting on top of it, some modest bitterness, and a fruity yeast character.

Quaffable, but nothing stands out about this.

Cloudy dark brown color with a modest-sized off white head, good lace, some carbonation. Pronounced aroma of toasted malt. Taste begins with strong toasted malt and caramel flavors which flow into moderate hop bitterness, taste ends with a jarring and unpleasant metallic note. Pleasant mouthfeel. Save for the aforementioned metallic aftertaste, a quite good beer.

Received in early May as part of the April MicroBeerClub shipment.

Beer poured a dark golden color with a decent white head initially. Nose initially was a hit of skunk but is of sweet malts and hints of citrus. Taste is somewhat malty but not noticeably hoppy. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, decently carbed, and refreshing. Drinkability is OK. This is definitely a sessionable beer but there is not much of a wow factor flavor wise. The hint of skunk did not help either. I would drink again if offered but this is not one I will seek out.

Indian River Amberjack Beer pours a light copper color with a white head from a brown twelve ounce bottle. The flavor is very mild, leaning toward the malt spectrum. Light and easy drinking, but not especially compelling. Tasted at the brewery, this is being reintroduced, with a tweaked recipe (the label no longer refers to this as an alt either).

Poured from 12-ounce bottle into an Erdinger weizenglass, just for kicks:

A: Poured a yellow-tinged amber with a two-finger head of bubbly white foam which fizzled to nothingness within a few moments. Zero floating carbonation, but a big whoosh was seen after every sip. Strange.

S: Smells very non-descript, but a little malty, a little grainy, a little zesty and a lil' metallic.

T: This is the let-down department. There is a slightly watery sweet malt taste, backed with a little metallic bitterness. Some toasted grain and what could be orange zest, but it's very, very thin.

M: Mouthfeel is light and rolling, not necessarily crisp.

D: A lawnmower beer for sure. Could session it well, I'm sure, but the flavor is such a letdown, you probably wouldn't want to overextend it.

Best part about this brew is the label artwork and interesting effervescent effect of carbonation under the foam after a sip. Then again, the glass could have been working harder than the brew on this one.

Pours a nice amber color with a short and medium bodied off-white head that settles pretty fast to a light film over the beer. It smells of very sweet malts, some orange, and some lemon aromas. The taste is OK for an alt. It has a nice sweet malty base to it followed by a mixture of citrisy flavorings finished with a slight citrisy hoppy kick. It is pretty good, but I think it should be a bit smoother for an alt. The mouthfeel is ok which makes for a decently drinkable beer.

Pours a bright reddish amber color with a foamy white head that fades into a thin patchy lace. Nose is sweet malts, butterscotch, and caramel. Fairly light in body with a bit of a slick mouthfeel. Taste is sweet lightly toasted malts and buttery caramel followed by a mild hop bitterness leading to a crisp finish. This was my first time sampling a Florida beer. Not bad, but nothing special.

Haha. It's the same four reviewers as the Shoal Draft.

Bought locally (Grapevine refrigerated shelves), a couple of days in my fridge, reviewed 45F-60F.

Another heavy pour, a medium-sized, crusty, cream-colored, soapy, runny head. A little bit of runny lacing. The beer is slightly cloudy, darkish, rusty.

The smell is tart, fruity, grapey, sugary, with some spice and a little steel. The beer starts fruity, malty and peppery again. The middle is a sweetish nothingness giving way to a metallic, caramel, bitter finish with hints of either coffee or imagined coffee. Grains finally show up in the aftertaste. Overall: enh. It's better than the kolsch. Not bad once the beer warms up and that peppery taste tames.

Pours a cloudy dull copper in color with a thick dose of white head that quickly died away. Still, a nice ring of lace circles the glass. Aromas have a distinct malty sweetness to them. Lots of caramel. Flavor is strange. Low amount of caramel sweetness (which, given the aromas, I would have thought would have been more pronounced) plus a huge amount of metallic flavor really put me off. Mouthfeel is low-medium in the body department. Drinkability takes a major hit due to the metallic flavor and aftertaste.

Thanks to AKSmokedPorter for this one.

All of a sudden, I have been running into these Dusseldorf-style Alt beers. This is the best one of the bunch so far. Very inviting deep brown color, big foamy tan head, settled slowly. Smell was dominated by sweet malt undertones, and inviting. Taste was a combination of sweet roasted malty undertones, carmel malt, with a balanced crisp finish. No slippery slimy tastes others complained about on a different site. Medium bodied, more of an after dinner finisher. For what it's worth, cool label to. Fish with a black streak along his eyes, a bit of an exageration of a real amberjack, but it looks like he knows something we don't. I like that.

I poured this beer into my tumbler at 50 degrees. The beer was a golden orange color and had a fairly nice white head. Though the smell I thought was a bit skunky it really was not. The taste of the beer was smooth and had a bit of a sweet tase I liked. The finish was slighly bitter but not too bad. I will buy again.

Smell is malty and molasses like. Pours to a rusty orange with a little head. Mouthfeel is very good, carbonation is just right. Taste is bittersweet...Strong sweetness from the malt and a constant hop bite that is neither bitter nor floral. Slight citrusy notes. Clean finish as they state is indeed true. Not real complex but a flavorful brew. Light enough to be enjoyed in quantity.

Appearance: Light golden color, little head

Smell: Smell? Very mild, almost didn't notice it.

Taste: Very plain, had very little taste. Reminded me of a light beer you would drink in college on a budget.

Mouthfeel: Since it had no distinct features, flavors, smells, etc. it was very smooth and plain on the tongue.

Drinkability: If you are looking for a beer that reminds you of water...here you go. It was smooth, but had no distinct offerings for the palate. Very simple.

Beer of the month club selection for April

A : Pours a hazy golden color with a thin white head that disappears quickly

S : There's some citrus, malts, hops, and metallic aromas. Some skunkiness to it also

T : It's a malt flavor with a huge metallic flavor to go along with it. Nasty

M : Medium bodied

D : This was just a bad beer. Never again.

Monthly club selection for April. The label is yellow unlike the blue label in the photo.

Thick soft white head that drops to just a dusting. Cloudy yellow color, the lightest "amber" I've ever seen (note: I didn't know this was an Alt until I got on BA... it's WAY too light for an Alt).

Grainy grassy smell with a hint of citrus.

Sweet grainy malt flavor, but there's not much going on here.

Nice medium- to full body. Smooth.

Pretty disappointing beer all the way around. I'll save the rest for when I can't taste as well.

Tasted on 5/16/08.

I enjoyed this beer from the comfort of my own living room. From bottle to a standard pint glass. From the April microbrew of the month that has been in my fridge for about 5 weeks now.

Appearance: Pours a nice light, golden orange color with a decent head that didn't last long.

Smell: Sweet malt, light coriander and something else I can't place, maybe citrus?

Taste: Very sweet, in a good way, and citrusy. But the aftertaste is a little too bitter and metallic. Not much good going on here.

Mouthfeel: Light-bodied and a little soapy.

Drinkability: Too bitter and lacking in taste to be a session beer for me.

H. Copper in color
N. Malty and biscuity, very light odor if any at all.

Damn, I feel bad, I have my friend in town get excited about doing some tastings with him, and I serve him this...damn this beer is horrible. In my defense it was given to me a "gift" from friend, well now I think I understand why they gave it to me and didn't have me buy it myself. The beer has little to no flavor at all. I almost feel like I am drinking water the color of beer. Just bland from the minute I poured it into the glass. I support local breweries but this was a huge dud for the Florida Beer Company.

This is a beer that gives Florida Beers a bad name. Please stay away from this beer at all costs!

Poured from a bottle into a Pilsner glass and drank with Moxley while taking her bank roll in Hold em'. Poured clear dark gold. But thats the last positive thing I got from this swill. The smell was similar to the water left behind after you make sauerkraut(not exagerating). The taste was of metal flavored water with hints of old sauerkraut water. The mouthfeel was thin and thats about it. If you do decide to buy this beer make sure you roll down the driver side window on your way home, look both ways for passing traffic and then rifle it out onto the highway.

A - Poured a hazy butterscotch with a bubbly ½ inch white head that dissipated quickly.

S - Strong metallic smell (nuts 'n bolts) with a strange smell that my drinkin' buddy picked up on - reminiscent of dirty sauerkraut water.

T - Strong metallic flavor. I felt like I was eating a weird hot dog that was cooked in sauerkraut water with dollops of liquid metal in place of ketchup. Gross.

M&D - Gross. I am so disappointed in Melbourne, Florida...you'd think they'd have more to offer than the shuttle. Clearly that's where they're spending all their time and $$$.

Has a good golden color and carbonation. Sweet malt smell, citrus taste. The mouthfeel I found more than pleasant - and not metallic. I am mainly reviewing this beer because it is perfectly drinkable and way better than a typical macrobrew. It is plenty refreshing, not bitter, and excellent for a session. The other reviews are WAY too low, in my opinion. Good easy-drinking stuff here, the kind that deserves fair rating. Not everything needs to be a hop bomb. If you like Shiner Bock and the like, this is the kind of stuff you might well enjoy.

Poured from a 12oz bottle to a pint glass.

Appearance - very light copper orange-yellow color, little head that quickly fades, lots of small bubbles

Smell - sweet malt, very light, food aromas in the room may be covering up some of the aroma

Taste - definite sauerkraut taste, hard water flavors, sweetness on the finish

Mouthfeel - rather watery

Drinkability - not horrible, but disappointing. Lacked any particularly great qualities. It's drinkable but there are a lot of other beers I'd choose over this one.

Now flies under the name Palm Beach Brewing Company Amberjack.

Looks good. Orange with only a slight haze and a nice 1 finger white head that dissipates quickly, leaving absolutely zero lacing.

Smells good, biscuity and sweet maltiness. Almost reminds me of a bock with the smell. Also a little booze and some hops and some skinniness.

Taste is pretty much not worth it. Its EXTREMELY metallic tasting until it warms just short of room temperature. Then it loses the metallic taste and picks up a fruity, almost apricot and banana flavor. If this beer could get that flavor cold and maybe a touch more hops it would be good.

Nice and carbonated, slips down the tongue. Almost a little too sweet once it warms.

Drinkaibility is not there. I don't mind drinking beers at the proper temperatures, but just shy of room temperature to get this thing down doesn't cut it.
