A double IPA with Chinook, Citra, and Mosaic hops. Flavors of tropical fruit, pine and citrus dominate.

Some off flavor in the finish I can't put my finger on makes me dislike this beer. A yeast ester, some specialty malt or hop bitterness, maybe all three combined...beyond that it's quite enjoyable though a mediocre double ipa. No doubt mayflower brewed this to chase the overly hoppy/doube ipa craze and the insane craft brew market fixation (read : neurotic obsession) on boozy hoppy (neipa styple) beers brought about by the uncouth, frat-life berchugging treehouse bros who demand a beer be fruit forward like a retarded redneck cousin to the contemptible wine cooler vs a tried and true beer. sigh. So sad that a single style has come to dominate the market much like the insipid american pilsner did years ago and drowned out other more interesting beer styles that mayflower tends to brew.

Canned 20 days ago.

L — Pours a quite hazy pale orange body with a three-finger solid white head produced with moderate pour. Great, pillowy retention and sticky lacing
S — Saison-like yeastiness, citrus peel, coriander, pine, pilsner malts, hint of compost pile
T — Much juicier character than the aromas would suggest. Semi-sweet malt bill supports the clementine, strawberry, banana, peach, pineapple, and jasmine floral flavors. I’m thinking a lot of that is the mosaic shining through. Some resinous pine near the finish
F — Medium, semi-fluffy mouthfeel. Medium carb.
O — I can see how this is one of Mayflower’s highest rated beers. The bready yeast character is a little too prevalent and the $14/4-pack of 16oz cans pricing is high. Still a decent shot at a NEIPA

salted and bittered pineapple. ironic due to Alden being the first wave crew member on the Crown’s WELCOME to the new world; the Mayflower. Get it? Cuz pineapple was the Crown’s symbol for welcome...

This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a glossysemi-burnt yellow to orange color with a slim finger’s worth of white foamy head that dissipated pretty quickly. Rings of lacing rim the sides of the glass. The smell takes in citrus bitter to sweet hops bursting into a dried piney hoppiness. Light sweet onion dankiness balances in nicely. The taste was basically the same with the dried resinous piney flow of hops really crowding the flavor nicely. It just really comes together well. Dry resinous aftertaste. Light smooth citrus to piney finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sipping to sessionable quality about it. Carbonation felt pretty good for the style and for me. Overall, hot damn, Mayflower, you guys did a great job on this beer.
