Pours a hazy light orange with a big head. Solid retention and lacing. The hop aroma is strong, slightly grassy and a nice amount of orange to it. Taste is very hop-forward, citrus-y but not sweet. Lots of bitterness in the finish but not as much of a palate-wrecker as other DIPAs I've had. Smooth, medium-heavy mouthfeel, overcarbonated. This is a nice beer, but if I have it again I'll want to give it a more aggressive pour to get rid of some of that carbonation.

12 oz can Batch # 8 Canned 5/23/17
Opened on 6/29/17

A hazy gold with orange highlights. 3" high foam cap, thick and stable. Rocky bubbles in the middle, very healthy look.

The hop aroma is actually very difficult to describe. I don't believe I've smelled anything like it. Maybe and perhaps it's like freshly ground hop cones, musty pine, herbal citrus, spicy orange, floral tang....all if which are very bold and seriously pungent. When and if you have ever rubbed fresh hop comes in your hands and then inhaled deeply...you might understand the aroma here.

The depth of hoppy flavor here might actually be scary. Multiple levels of hop flavor abound. The thickness and depth is pretty fantastic. As you gulp, strong hop flavor's and aroma's burst through your palate and out of your nose. Sour, funky earth citrus and big bitter piney flavor's run amok. Tropical juice, big bitter earth, pineapple and grapefruit, herbs and spice. Man, it's all in there! The malt is pretty huge, a thick, heady and slick malt, honey sweet and bready. Tries hard to bring these stellar hop flavor's grounded as much as it possibly can.

The body is thick and full, super heady with a dense feel. Slick, yet juicy. I could deal with a slightly lighter, crisper body and mouthfeel. But damn, if it's not intense.

I dig the complexity of hoppy flavor. ...but it enters a realm of extreme bitterness and intensity that honestly might be a bit too much. The New England Style IPA 's have brought forth a certain lighter body with huge hop complexity that makes it easir to drink and enjoy. This massive DIPA just tears up your palate. Malt is practically as big, especially in the mouthfeel.

Giving big points for complexity, the layers of wet and dry hopped style flavor's is pretty huge. It could be crisper. More drinkable....I'm glad I only grabbed one can, because I'm just not sure I could do another....and the 8% abv really gets up on you!
