There is a very easy drinkability to the beer with an ABV of 5.5% with a remarkably smooth and easy nature to the beer. There is a mellow and calm nature to the beer that certainly makes the beer a very nice session beer.
The pour does not show much carbonation within it and while drinking this offering the lack of excessive carbonation actually seemed to work in the beer's favor.
Mayflower Porter pours a very nice black color with some dark ruby hues present, as well. The pour lends way to a half-inch tan frothy and creamy head. Throughout the sampling the head begins to dissipate yet a nice lacing is left along the glass.
The smell is completely void of any hop nature and instead there is a very pleasant roasted nature to the beer. There are hints of nuts and chocolate in the nose but the roasted malt complexity seems to be what comes through the most.
What really makes this beer a winner is the taste. Immediately noticed is a rush of roasted flavors that is followed by a somewhat sweet, but not overbearing, flavor. The roasted taste of this porter is not to be confused as a smoked porter as there is not the same ashy and smoky flavor you would find in a smoked porter. Instead, the roasted nature is somewhat indicative of perhaps a coffee or roasted nuts flavor. The malts are the most present in this beer and the sweetness that is noted in the taste is rather muted and does not work to offend.
Because there is a heightened smoothness to this porter, the drinkability of this beer is great. There is a very smooth and crisp taste to this porter that works its way across the palate nicely.

Same spot as I found the date for their blonde "PKG DEC 16, 2013"
Into a mug.
A: pitch black colored body with a slim white one fingered foamy head that drops to a speckled sticky foamy lacing
S: delicately balanced coffee to chocolate - a nice gentle burnt and roastiness
T: pretty much the same as the aroma with a crisp dry roasty chocolatey aftertaste and just a dry finish
M: sits fairly light on the body with a gentle sessionability to it, carbonation is slightly smooth but also shows some harshness to keep one from pounding it
O: what a nice English Porter, probably the best one I've had today by Mayflower as I would definitely have this again
