love the cask but this place has an aversion to the sparkler which is continuously annoying to me and it just kills the presentation in addition to the intended body and mouthfeel of the beer, but I digress.
opaque at first glance but a clear deep ruby against strong light. Soley on the merits of the pour, the head was over the top fluffy and bubbly but dead in a minute. No lacinng at all.
Chocolate and black patent malt aromas with burbon phenols in the nose. Oak and tobacco too.
Taste is bitter and dry but medium to light in body. It tastes like a porter should in my opinion. Modest chocolate burnt taste that does not dominate; in fact nothing does. This is a well crafted beer; exemplary of the style.
The finish is very dry; almost too dry for my taste. Drinkability suffers for this but it's good for one.

Same spot as I found the date for their blonde "PKG DEC 16, 2013"
Into a mug.
A: pitch black colored body with a slim white one fingered foamy head that drops to a speckled sticky foamy lacing
S: delicately balanced coffee to chocolate - a nice gentle burnt and roastiness
T: pretty much the same as the aroma with a crisp dry roasty chocolatey aftertaste and just a dry finish
M: sits fairly light on the body with a gentle sessionability to it, carbonation is slightly smooth but also shows some harshness to keep one from pounding it
O: what a nice English Porter, probably the best one I've had today by Mayflower as I would definitely have this again
