The first and only perennial offering in our Cooper’s Series of limited batch beers. Mayflower Thanksgiving Ale is an inspired blend of two brewing styles: American Strong Ale and English Old Ale. Aged on American white oak, this full-bodied brew warms the soul with hints of caramel, vanilla and spicy nuts. The perfect beverage for our favorite holiday.

2011 vintage I believe - took me a year to get to this. I think this was from Reagan1984, but I can't completely remember. Served in a taster pint glass.

A - Off-white foam settles to a thin collar, a few wisps, and a few specks of lace. Transparent ruby-brown body.

S - Oaky, with sharp and slightly spicy and phenolic yeast notes, as well as a bit of fruitiness and tart berry. Even though this is supposedly brewed with Belgian yeast, there's more of an English vibe going on. Seems more like an English Strong with oak.

T - The taste has more toffee and biscuit sweetness, with some oak and vanilla flavors mixed in. There's some fruity yeast, and not much alcohol presence. Better than the aroma, although the finish is a bit flaccid and heavy on the oak.

M - Medium body, moderate and soft carbonation, oaky texture, and dry in the finish. Not much alcohol, considering the 8% ABV.

D - There's a bit too much oak character, even after a year, but there's nothing really 'wrong' with this beer; it's just not all that special. If there were limited options I certainly wouldn't turn it down, but I can think of numerous beers I'd rather drink first.

a: This was a clear caramel color. It poured with a medium sized fizzy head.

s: Lots of caramel with some vanilla, oak, and spicy hop aromas.

t: Sweet toasty oak dominates, with some caramel and a spicy rye finish.

m: Fairly hefty with fizzy carbonation.

o: Thanks E, I really liked this one. I don't think I've had anything quite like it.

stamped "2012"

A: Dark reddish brown with a thick white head and nice lacing.

S: Sort of a soapy herbal hoppiness and a very faint, slightly spicy malt.

T: Crusty bread, sweet (but not sticky or cloying; no molasses or fruit) malt, rich vanilla. Prickly yeast spiciness and herbal hop bitterness on the finish. There's a lot going on here, and it's all good.

M: Full but not too full to accompany food.

O: A very tasty beer. Unfortunately, it's 8% and only comes in bombers.

Poured into my Lost Abbey tulip glass. Pours an attractive auburn, with a one inch off white head, leaves no lacing behind. Smell is bread, vanilla, dark fruit, brown sugar, and banana. Taste is very pungent. Taste is all of that with some toffee and booze mixed in. Body is medium, enough carbonation, not dry, and pretty good drinkability. This is a different and good beer.

A-Very dark amber. Head is smaller. It laces with long drapes.

S-Aged on oak huh? Yeah, my first big sniff offered some very raw wooden aromas. This also smells right around 8%. Definitely noticing that rye piquancy. I also get a soapiness from the hops. Darker fruits and buzzing yeast.

T-Maple syrup with spiced Autumn garnish. Oak subtly sets in as the beer sits and warms. Yeast is forceful. Over-steeped tea. Very malty, very complex. Bitterness sneaks up on you, but there aren't fleshed-out hop flavors. That's okay, because this is all about the malt.

M-Fuller bodied with soft bubbles.Actually, it goes down good. Booze creeps around my senses.

O/D-God, I can just picture this next to a cut of dark meat and some voluptuous stuffing. I have avoided this for about four years. After trying this, I really regret the wait. I like how this is one of the only beers I have ever come across that has been aged on oak and such a proclamation hasnt been stamped onto the front of the label. Overall, I will definitely purchase one of these every year.

Presentation: Bomber bottle bought for $6 at a local store. 2012 vintage I'm pretty sure. Served chilled and poured into my Cigar City tulip glass. Allowed to warm up over half an hour or so.

Appearance: Amber to medium brown in color. Nice and clear throughout. Not much in terms of a head upon first pour and recedes pretty quickly into nothing.

Aroma: Toasted bread and caramel notes really stand out. The alcohol is really well hidden.

Taste: Toasted malt and caramel malt notes really create a nice base flavor. Some bitter coffee notes and a slight bittering hop character. Really nicely balanced and tasty.

Mouthfeel: Pretty full bodied and creamy throughout. The carbonation level is pretty low.

Overall, a really nice english style old ale. The balance and toasted character of the malt really seperate this from other beers. Works perfectly for the season too and priced nicely.

A - Plum brown with decent tan head that retains somewhat and has good lacing.

S - Bready malts.

T - Mm, wow, this is way more jam-packed with flavor than the nose indicates. Pretty damn delicious actually. Red Delicious apples, pine, caramel and molasses malts with a bitter, boozy aftertaste.

M - Medium-bodied, not exactly dry. The sip breaks apart a little too much as you finish each swallow and it gives way to a a bitter aftertaste that is separate from any hop profile.

D - A good beer. If they tweaked the mouthfeel, this could be a great beer. I'd like this thick and chewy, personally. A solid offering, nevertheless. Good to see a local brewery succeeding.
