The beer pours a proper black with a slight red tinge and a nice light tan head on top. The beer’s body is too dark to properly judge, but seems clean. The beer leaves a lacing that is light and slippery, leaving very little to look at on the glass. On the nose, the beer smells wonderfully rich with coffee and oatmeal tones. Roasted barley malts also come through on the nose slightly. On the tongue, the beer tastes sweet and drying with a nice roasted bitter flavoring. The beer begins with a little watery roasted malt before opening into big roasted oat flavors with touches of coffee, toffee, and char. The finish brings to mind sweet oatmeal bread, and is very appealing. The aftertaste is tingly with roasted oatmeal and slight coffee. On the mouth, the beer feels medium bodied, with a medium carbonation that lightly prickles the tongue. The mouth is left dry with a light wet sheen of saliva on the sides of the mouth. Overall, this beer is delicious and sessionable. There is a lovely roasted oat flavor that reminds me of winter and a warm stove for some reason. This stout will not blow you away with flavor, but it is solid and tasty and fully deserving of your taste buds.

Mayflower Brewing Company - Winter Oatmeal Stout, poured into a Craftgeer snifter.

Look - Pours thin viscosity black with a small foamy head that dissipates quickly and no lacing.

Smell - Aroma is chocolate, oatmeal, and roasted malts. Well rounded. Big oats. Sweet.

Taste - Thin but packed full of oats with a side of roasted malts, tasty.

Mouthfeel - Thin with moderate carbonation. Lingering oats. Zero booziness and easy to drink but the brew starts to lose steam here a bit.

Overall - For a non-imperial (read: thin) oatmeal stout, this is good.

It tries to make a decent head. It doesn't. It tries to smell nice, it does a better job at that. It tries to taste good, and it does. It tries not to feel too heavy. It's medium.

It's a beer that keeps on trying. It isn't going to move on to the olympics or be a professional. But it might have a really good college career that leads to a good job and a happy family. It has to work for it, but it ultimately is comfortably successful. Upper middle class.

No one will write a book, or even a post, about this beer. But people who meet it will say, 'oh yeah! That guy! That was surprisingly good!' when they hear it mentioned in passing.

"PKG 11/26/13" is printed on the label.

I poured aggressively and got a finger of rich brown head. This fizzled away in seconds, leaving me nary a ring to enjoy in my glass. The body is a deep profound brown that borders on black, and it does not show any sign of lacing. As I look down into the beer, I can see minute bubbles popping on the surface.

Richly roasted malt and light yet rich aromas of coffee and chocolate abound.

Oatmeal and roasted malt are strong up front. A little roasted nut flavor with earthy tones fills it out. Doesn't make a big deal of itself, and honestly isn't very impressive.

The mouthfeel is a little disappointing. It is light-medium bodied, and seems to go down way too easy. It is a little too carbonated in my opinion. It leaves a hint of a coating on the tongue.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle dated 11/26/13. Sampled on January 16, 2014.

The pour is a deep dark black color with a short-lived light brown head. Impossible to see through even held to the light.

The aroma brings out the dark malts and oatmeal characters but in a downplayed sort of way. Also a bit of smoke and light sweetness.

The body is in the medium range with a smooth texture.

The taste has a smoky, creaminess in the malt character that abruptly explodes into an earthy bitter dryness that does not linger long. Oatmeal can also be found. It definitely has some very nice features to it.
