12 oz. bottle poured into a stout glass.

Appearance: It's a deep, dark brown - nearly black. Lighter brown around the edges. Very short tan head dissipates quickly. Some lacing.

Aroma: Smells of baker's chocolate, black coffee, oak, and earth. Inviting.

Taste: The chocolate and coffee are right up front, along with some oats and a subtle grassy bite.

Mouthfeel: Somewhat dense - almost heavy - but really smooth.

Overall: Really nice stout from these Plymouth dudes. Strikes me more as a straight-up stout than an oatmeal stout, but does have a nice smoothness to it. Would have again.

Pours quite black with short head - a touch of mahogany highlights around the edges. The aroma isn't very strong, but it has a definite roasty quality. Taste follows the nose, a touch on the burnt side for me. No real surprises. Meets expectations, which are higher than normal due to the brewer. Feel is excellent. Soft and clean with a dry finish. This is a good drinker. Would be happy to have again.

Poured from a 12oz brown bottle into my standard heavy glass beer mug.

A- pours jet black with no Amber showing through, looks almost viscous though it isn't. Minimal 1/2" off-white head stays around long enough to say hello then quickly dissipates leaving no lacing to speak of.

S- malt, oats, coffee and toast. Hint of smoke in the background and a slight, vague sweetness like a rich dark bread.

T- malt and toasted oats dominate at first, giving way to bittersweet chocolate and a hint of coffee. A very nice smoky flavor shows up on the back of the swallow and lingers for a bit, almost peaty in essence and very cozy and warming. Aside from the smoke it's got the expected flavors, no huge surprises.

M- silky and smooth with low carbonation, actually a little lower than I expected for the moderate (for a stout) ABV. Overall the mouthfeel is what you would want and expect of the style, smooth and warming without feeling syrupy; a semi-dry finish leaves you wanting another sip.

O- the pour is a little lackluster in appearance, but all other aspects are there. The peaty smoke really adds another dimension to the flavor and was a nice surprise since this isn't declared to be a smoked stout. Overall another great brew from Mayflower and one that I will plan to revisit.

A - Jet black body, off-white head fades quickly, leaves minimal lacing.
S - Malt sweetness, chocolate, roast & toast.
T - Roasted malt, coffee, slightly burnt toast. No hop presence (not that I expected any)
M - Medium/thin. Low carb. Very smooth from the oats.
O - A good stout, not sure why it is winter, other than maybe the time of the year. Certainly appropriate for that. Happy to have tried and definitely worth the price of admission, but I probably won't rush back to it.
