First Review on BA.

Serving Type -- Two 12oz bottles, in a big "20 oz" beer mug that actually fits 23.90 oz. Not quite a maskrug, but a worthy vessel in any case. (for $1 @ Dollar Store, by the way. Check the endcaps.)

Appearance -- Color is surprising for such a hoppy ale, would expect far more malty tones based on presence of red. Before pouring, I had assumed it was closer to the IPA-ish end of the spectrum, based on what I had heard about hoppiness levels. Once poured, no longer sure what to expect. Color is dark, a brown-with-heavy-red overtones, but is misleading relative to taste.

Smell - Despite owning a "power nose", tough to discern anything unique. Similar to an IPA, as best i can make out.

Taste - First, immediate, taste on a clean palate is truly redolent, in a big way, of copper or other metal (Amstel Light or Strohs, almost "rusty"), but almost ****immediately**** (within seconds) is superseded by the big big big big big big big big "Big Pine Tree" hops tones. Afterwards, some malty aftertastes, mixed with bitter hops.

Mouth Feel -- I am not sophisticated enough to put a fine point on things related to mouth feel, but my impression is that this is lighter/smoother than a stout or porter or even a heavy nut brown. Feels about as heavy as a IPA or lager. Liquid, not creamy in any way. Crisp.

Overall -- Wow. Talk about crazy good hop combo. Pine trees. Big pine trees. Very unique, intense combination of flavors. Color adds to overall surprise/wow factor. Me likey.

Tranquilo.

Mayflower Brewing Company - Mayflower Spring Hop, poured into a DFH Spiegelau IPA glass.

Look - Pours a beautiful filtered deep ruby amber with a terrific soapy head that dissipates at a moderate pace and leaves behind tons of sticky lacing. Perfect appearance.

Smell - Aroma is rich red malts with a nice pine/floral hop overlay. Some malty breadiness.

Taste - Clean and crisp, the malts sit back for a blast of resiny hops.

Mouthfeel - Rests quite bitter with a little bit of malt stickiness. Some malt heat booziness which is only slightly off-putting for the ABV. Light-medium bodied with low-medium carbonation.

Overall - Good hoppy amber/red. Big hops, of the piney, not juicy variety. A solid take on the style with some oomph for hop heads.

Found Packaging date of 01/31/14. Thanx PubofLyons.

Into a pint glass.

A: amber/copper colored body with a one finger white foamy head that lasted about a good minute before dieing into the body; nice adequate somewhat ringy lacing that clung all around

S: citrusy hops up front with a nice light caramel malts ever so delicately in the background.

T: super nice citrus sweet to caramel sweet that eloquently manages to lead to the same aftertaste and adds in a dry sort of caramel finish

M: sits about a medium on the body with a decent carbonation that is good for an American Amber/Red ale and for me

O: gee weez, I wasn't expecting this one to be as good, but it sure got a big wow from me. Way to go Mayflower. I'd trade for this again.

A - Arrived a copper color with an inch or so of head. Darker than I expected. Bubbly head lasted longer than I expected, but didn't really leave any lacing. Nice looking beer.

S - Nothing significant, but a nice mix of citrus hops and light malt.

T - Follows the nose. Basic, but really nice. The cask absolutely imparted a woody character to the beer. Lots of subtleties.

M- Medium bodied and soft. Not flat like I expected from a cask.

O - Great experience. Hard to judge based on the cask preparation. It's nice to have a beer at a bar that has carbonation and isn't freezing cold. Would buy again!

Inch tall off white dense-bubbled head. Body is a red/mahogany color. Sticky spiderweb lacing, good head retention.

Piney/woody aromas.

Rich toasted caramel flavors with a biting hop profile. Would guess more than the stated 5.3%abv just because it packs the flavor so well.

Medium carbonation, medium-full mouthfeel.

Enjoying the prickly hop bite on this one. Thanks mj0126 for this great local beer!

Bottled 1/31/14. Current date 3/7/14.

Poured an attractive amber color in a stein with a 4 finger head which
resolved itself in a few minutes.

Aroma- very strong pine with a hint of vanilla.

The mouth feel is carbonated yet not overdone.

The aroma transitions nicely to the piney taste, which is not as accentuated as the aroma.
The beer finishes with good hoppiness followed by a light bitterness.

Overall, a very good beer. I would have liked a bit more fruit and pine in the taste.
The hoppiness was quite good and the finish was smoother/lighter than other beers in the style.
