Light brown to deep amber color. Lots of blanketing lace which leaves a ring after each sip.

Not much aroma from this bar pour--what's there is hoppy, fresh and bitter.

Astringent flavor--very dry malt. The hop is surprisingly modest, acting mostly as a spice to the near-bitter malt. The body is good and carbonation is low.

Bottled 3/17/13 Bought at Quality Liquors in Salem.

A - Dark amber color, was not expecting it to be so dark and my fears were later confirmed that this was a much more malt balanced beer than the title indicated. Nice bubbly head but it didn't last very long at all.

S - Best part of the beer. Fresh hop aroma, citrus-grapefruit and malt together great combination.

T - Has a nice hop taste up front, but there was a whole lot of malt taste in this beer considering how fresh I bought it, and because the beer didn't have much carbonation which lead to a light english style flavor.

M - Although the head was well formed, the beer was sort of flat and didn't carry the malt over as well. This could be a potentially delicious cask ale.

O - Nice ale to warm up with while the spring is coming on. Darker than most other spring style or session ales. Quality choice for the value in a six pack, especially if you're a fan of mayflowers other beers.

Pleasant tangerine amber color.
Half finger of off white head, quick to fade.

Pleasant ripe pine nose with some floral hoppiness.

Taste is also lots of pine, dry hop with subtle floral notes. Maybe a hint of orange citrus. Bigger malt than I would have expected. Really rich and full flavored.

Feel is dry but robust. Medium bodied. Lingering dry hop on the finish.

Overall, seems to fit the bill well, but not a spectacular option. Well balanced, but nothing super complex. Just very likeable and straightforward. Makes a good pairing for the spring thaw while the sun goes down. Was hoping for a bit more hop though given the name. Great to have Mayflower available in CT now though.

Poured into a Sam Adams perfect pint glass

Appearance: moderate carbonation, 1/4 inch head, dark caramel brown in color, clear

Smell: pine hops and light citrus hops

Taste: caramel with big piney hops, small citrus hops and an earthy back bone.

Mouthfeel: sweet start with a big bitter spike in the middle and a less bitter end, high carbonation, light body

Overall: Mayflower knows how to do seasonal beers. They may have the best seasonal line up in the state. This one is no exception. You would think the pilgrims landed in California as this one is a very hoppy red ale and drinks very west coast. A sipper, I could have two per sitting, but would want more for the next time.

Mayflower Spring Hop Ale
12 oz brown bottle
03/06/12 jet ink on the side of label
Served in a 20 oz tulip

Pours a reddish crimson color with a decent head on top. Trails of sticky lace cling to the side of the glass.

Nice aroma of malts, but also some hoppy notes of citrus fruits too.

The mouthfeel provides a chewy malt backbone with hints of caramel sweetness. The finish provides a nice hop snap with flavors of green apples and citrus inspired grapefruit.

An enjoyable spring time beer from Mayflower. Having this beer reminds me that I need to plan a trip to visit the brewery down in Plymouth.

12 oz bottle into my Opa-Opa Pint Glass
A - deep orange, very foamy. Settles down quickly, with some nice lacing. Not cloudy.
S- sweet resiny hops smell. Not overpowering.
T - crisp hops bitterness out front, a little sweetneess and vanilla malt follows.
M - tingly bubbles, a little bit of stickiness, but not as full as some others. Fairly light going down actually.
O - drinkable, nice beer. Not an extreme hoppy beer, compared to some I've been drinking recently, just nice balance. Extra point for local.

This beer pours a light reddish orange color with a decent white head. the smell is floral and hoppy, slightly earthy. the flavor is hops and floral earthy notes very light bodied and well carbed. not sure what it is about the hop flavor but its not what i look for in my beers, not that it is bad. i lie mayflower, but prefer their darker beers to the ipa and spring hop.

Had this fine beer on draft at the local British Beer Company

A: Dark amber color with a cake batter colored head that slowly dissipates on the edges of the glass. Very nice appearance to this beer

S: Citrus and grapefruit floral hop aroma with a balance of some sweet caramelized malt in the mix

T: A moderate Pale Ale like hop profile with moderate bitter tangy taste that transitions into a citrus sweet nutty candy malt finish. Nice balance on both sides of this beer with a nice hoppy finish.

M: Smooth and clean body that carries a light to moderate carbonation. The finish is a bit tangy and sticky.

D: Great complex set of flavors in this easy drinking beer. The beer is pretty light on body and alcohol so this makes for a perfect spring session beer. Really like this beer!

12oz bottle poured into Portsmouth snifter. 4/7/11 printed on bottle. Huge thanks to SneezyAchew for both the beer and the glass!

A: Pours a glowing dark ruby red with a huge, oily, light-tan head that slowly faded into a fuzzy film that left sticky patches of lacing down the glass.
S: Very hoppy on the nose with notes of citrus and flowers. There is balancing scent of sweet malt, but for the most part this smells like an ipa.
T: The malt hits the mouth first with flavors of dark breadcrust similar to rye. The hops come in second and round out the brew with an ambiguous flavor of citrus rind and flowers. The finish is sweet and peppery with flavors of earthy spices, and the aftertaste is lightly bitter and drying.
M: Medium body with frothy carbonation that for the most part is soft, but there is a sharpness to the mouthfeel at times. This beer is slick but not too oily, and finishes fairly dry.
O: A very hoppy amber ale great for those of us who like everything to be hopped up. Thanks for sending me more than one of these Michael, I'm enjoying them.

12 oz dark brown bottle. Packaged on Date stamped on label.
Served in a SA etched fluted glass.
It's a deep coppery amber color with a 1" fast-fading white head. Some sticky and trailing lacing.
Almost IPA-quality resinous hop nose. Some citrusy and flowery aromas vie for attention, as does a light smell of rye toast.
The taste reminds me of some rye ales at first gulp. The edgy hop bitterness give way a bit to a honey and malty sweetness.
A very tasty brew and a nice beer to welcome in the spring.
Will pair nicely with grilled burgers and brats.

Maple syrup color into a pint glass with a nice finger or two of big bubble head with sticky lacing.

I can smell this guy without bringing it to my nose, when I do, there's big bright floral/light pine hops and a little grass, very nice indeed. Definitely spring.

Prickly carbonation upfront and then sweet malts followed immediately by medium bodied crisp hoppy bitterness that lingers in a very pleasant manner from the earlier malt balance.

I'm not really clear why they tout it as brewed for aroma...I prefer to drink my beer rather than snort it (yes, I know most of taste is smell), but this is a great departure from the pale spring ales I typically see and a good outdoor drinker.

Have had a couple of beers from this company before, but this is the first official review.

A: Beer pours a deep, dark amber color with not much of a head on it, thins out pretty fast but leaves some bubbles on the top.

S: Initial aroma is of grassy, floral notes and hops. Not too much else but the hops definitely dominate the smell.

T: Not much bite, do get more of a pine flavor as opposed to citrus or grapefruit. Hop flavor is sweet and satisfying and finishes with a dry yeast.

M: Very light and drinkable, not over powering in any aspect. Carbonation definitely brings out the hop flavor.

O: Very delicious, but also very tame hop type beer. Have had their IPA and that was pretty strong, dont think thats what they were going for here. Kind of reminds me of what Samuel Adams did with their Alpine Spring.
