Hala Kahiki Pineapple Beer brewed by Rivertowne Pourhouse, with an ABV 4.80% This brew pours out a light cloudy amber color, with a nice white head. The smell is sweet with pineapple. You also pick up on a hit of grains and malts. Now for the taste, it is odd. There is some sweetness, but a odd aftertaste to this brew. The mouthfeel is sweet but Hala Kahiki Pineapple has a odd nasty aftertaste. The aftertaste just kills this brew. I was expecting more out of this rivertowne brew. Overall I'm giving Hala Kahiki Pineapple Beer a 2.5 out 5

12oz. can courtesy of HopFace. Served in a shaker pint. Pours a pale yellow with a hazy clarity and a thin white head that quickly dissipates into nothing. Nose is a bit reminiscent of pineapple soda. Taste expresses some pineapple notes, but there's a prevailing artificial sweetener character and a hint of yeast. Mouthfeel is light in body with a light, effervescing carbonation and a slight acidity. Overall, not bad but nothing special.

12 oz. can into craft tumbler

A- Pale yellow and hazy. Fizzy white head, with poor retention. Looks like fizzy pineapple juice.

S- Lots of pineapple, with a very faint toasty malt background.

T- The beer characteristic comes out a little more in the flavor. Still pineapple the big player, subtle malt in the background.

M- Hops seem to dry this a little bit, mellowing the overwhelming sweetness of pineapple juice. Light body and wet feel. Not even a real pineapple tang to it either.

O- It's not unpleasant tasting, but I would call this "beer-flavored pineapple juice". Very sweet, very light on any beer flavor; it sure seems like there is more juice in here than beer. The fact that it is mixed as well. At least age it on pineapple...

- can. pineapple beer. natural pineapple juice added.

A: Palest of straw pour produces a monstrous white pearl head of two fingers, which lapses rather quickly leaving splashy lace marks on the vessel. Very light misty haze, with a dense nature of macro-effervesce rising at a good rate.

S: The pineapple is fresh and fruity upon the pour, fairly dominant at arms reach. Inside the glass a more natural, warm pineapple aroma, lightly tart with some funky straw, barnwood and pineapple leave.

T: The pineapple juice definitely takes over the beer aspect. A pineapple shandy? Lightly tart, funky warm, cooked pineapple slices like you would have on a ham. Fruity aspects with a strange apple sauce bite on the swallow.

M: Wheaty, pineapple feel on the mouthful, mid-body depth, carbonation feels much lower then the visual, ok overall.

O: Drinks like a pineapple shandy or wine cooler. Seemed a bit odd at times. Its a pineapple beer, and as much as i like pineapple, i like it better when derived from citra hops and not from pineapple juice addition. A C- range beer at the days end, with a strange tart pineapple finish that may discourge next sips let alone second servings.

12oz can with no canning date. Poured into an unlabeled snifter 7/13/2014.

A- Mostly clear, though slightly hazy, light straw-yellow body with a one finger white head that disappears fairly quickly. Looks like filtered pineapple juice, I suppose.

S- Smells slick and sweet, just like what I would expect freshly squeezed pineapple juice. If you cut up some pineapples and bring them to work in a tupperware to eat as a snack, this smells like the residual juices in the container. And a touch of yeast. No complexity, just that nice pineapple sweetness.

F- Starts tasting more like a pineapple beer than pineapple juice. Crisp, slightly tart but mostly sweet pineapple juice mixes in with an earthier but still sweet pale malt with a touch of yeast spices. Quite sweet, but in a refreshing fruit manner, not a sugary ice frosting manner.

M- Thinner in body but not watery. Packed with plenty of flavour and carbonation. Easy drinker with a pineapple (what else?) finish.

O- Haven't had a pineapple beer up to this point, but this is pretty much what I would expect out of a pineapple beer. This is a well-executed beer, even if it's more of a novelty summer session beer.

12 ounce can into pint glass, no canning date. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy golden straw color with a small foamy white head with decent retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with some moderate streaming carbonation. Aromas of lightly tart juicy pineapple, pear, light banana, wheat, bread, light honey, and light grass. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of pineapple fruit and pale malt sweetness; with decent strength. Taste of slightly tart juicy pineapple, pear, light banana, wheat, bread, light honey, and light grass. Minimal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of pineapple, pear, light banana, wheat, bread, light honey, and light grass on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance and solid robustness of pineapple fruit and pale malt sweetness; with zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth and lightly syrupy mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.8%. Overall this is a nice session fruit beer. Good balance and solid robustness of pineapple fruit and pale malt sweetness; and very smooth to drink. Nice amount of authentic fruit flavor without feeling watery; a nicely enjoyable offering.

Not a fan of "sweet" beers but it was a very hot day and and was out in the sun most of the day. Saw this beer on tap and was willing to give it a try as it sounded very refreshing. Was completely surprised with the flavor and overall experience. I know if I had this beer at a different time and place it wouldn't have been as appealing. The color mimicked the color of a pineapple and there was plenty of carbonation which added to the refreshment; the smell of pineapple was strong enough to notice but not overbearing. The mouthfeel was thin but not too thin too feel watered down; the low alcohol also was welcomed. A great beer, worth a try for sure if you're on the fence about fruit beers. Nice job, Rivertowne!

Served on tap into a mug.

A- Poured a very clear and pale straw color, some minimal carbonation was visible, white soapy head dissipated instantly and left no lace.

S- Smells like a can of goya pineapple juice.

T- Tastes like canned pineapple juice, some earthiness like an unripe pineapple, and that's really it.

M- Prickly carbonation, dry, lighter bodied, and refreshing.

O- It was refreshing and quenching enough on a hot day, but totally one dimensional. It was like drinking a can of pineapple juice or soda.

On tap at Pinocchio's.

Straw-yellow pour, clear, with no head...maybe a few stray bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass. Looked like a flat Miller. In the nose, pineapple juice and raw grains. The taste was pretty much the same, with unripe pineapple juice being the dominant flavor, and a steady husky graininess coming in a close second. Not much else going on. Light body, thin mouthfeel that wasn't helped by the extremely low carbonation. I didn't care for this one at all, though it wasn't completely undrinkable.

Well this could have been worse. Fruit beers, though usually refreshing and often interesting, are always precariously to much like a soda pop. This one walks that fine line and just barely stays on the fair side of that.

It looks like a pale ginger ale. The color is light yellow and it has more of a champagne fix than a beer head, bit odd that bad? The aroma is extremely weak, but at least it isn't bad. It increases with warmth.

The taste is sweet and refreshing but still of beer. There is a little yeast taste, like a what, but just barely. It is not annually to your taste. The aftertaste is sweet as well.

Overall, this is an interesting, refreshing drink.

Rivertowne Pourhouse "Hala Kahiki"
12 oz. can

One of the most charming beers I've had in a while. It's a pineapple-flavored beer and nothing else, nor does it intend to be. It's sweetish but not too sweet, and very subtly tart - think of it as a kind of sweet and extra fruity witbier. It tastes like pineapple, apples, and delicate sugar. It's not bitter, but neither is it cloying. Overall, it's a unique, refreshing, and enjoyable fruity ale. Worth trying, and maybe even worth seeking out.

The wife said because it is a beer that she enjoys I need to give it a 5.0 so there you have it.... Domestic communism

A rather surprising flavor a good aftertaste that will linger with the pineapple flavor. Very light in color that is expected with the name of the product. Not far out of expectation with this one

12 oz. can poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Hazy yellow. Miniscule head. Nothing on the surface after a while.

Smell - Pineapple. Lots of pineapple. Some vanilla creaminess.

Taste - Sweet pineapple. And even more pineapple. A touch of tang and vanilla. The sweetness is a bit like aspartame.

Mouthfeel - Sweet. Medium low carbonation.

Overall - It's just pineapple. And sweetness.

It looks about like a simple light-style ale, pale yellow in color with a bit of effervescent activity to it forming a bubbly white head that reaches half a finger, settles pretty well, and deposits spotty lacing.
It really smells like fresh pineapple off the bat before a sugary essence kicks in, at which point it smells like one of those old-fashioned clearish pineapple candies. A little mor fresh juice would be fantastic, but it's very nice in a guilty pleasure sort of way, and there is a bit of pale malt that speaks to its nature.
The base beer is simple enough to put some flsvor into so that it can take charge, but it's clearly well constructed, seemingly something like a blonde ale. Pineapple is fresher and juicier on the palate, and I can believe the claim that this was aged on pineapples. Lightly acidic to cut through a sweetness that's short of cloying, care was clearly taken in making sure this wouldn't be a pineapple soda.
The feel is light, bright and clean with plenty of crispness. There's actually a bit of body, though it remains light, but with depth.

I poured this into a glass, it has a cloudy yellowish color body with just a small thin lace around it. The smell is of fresh pineapple. The taste has a sweet but not overly sweet taste of pineapple. It is like drinking hard pineapple juice. The mouthfeel is great, smooth, not over carbonated. overall i could drink this all year long. it is very refreshing.

Eye: Had I know that there was sediment in this I'd have poured it gentler. I'm not sure if this is is yeast or pineapple chunks in the beer here. Very cloudy lemon yellow in color, small bubbly head forms but quickly dissipates, to pretty much nothing.

Nose: Pineapple aroma fills the room once this beer is decanted. You can't say that this beer isn't what it claims to be. Not much more to this one than pineapple. I mean honestly it smells like I have a bowl of fresh pineapple in front of me. Maybe a bit of malt coming through. I can smell the acidity of this beer, and for a fruit beer I guess that is ok, makes the fruit pop a bit.

Tongue: Light and bubbly on the palate, this one almost tastes like a mimosa. Pineapple right upfront then it mellows out and gets citrusy and finishes with a lingering pineapple flavor. On a hot day, this would be awesome. The beer is sweet without being cloying, carbonation is high and works well to clean the palate. Acidity helps to bring out the pineapple. I'm gonna go ahead and guess based on the color and overall flavor of this beer that it is an american wheat with pineapple. Some slight yeasty notes in there, looking at the particulate in the glass it definitely looks like yeast, but shit, there was a lot of it. Soft tones from what I'm guessing is wheat. I'm really not looking for too much in a beer like this. I'm thinking that this is exactly what the brewers intended. Its a great fruit beer. Like I said excellent on a hot day, or substitute anytime a mimosa is called for!

Drinkability: I think this is a well made fruit beer. There are no flaws in it, it tastes fresh and for the flavor profile the mouthfeel fits perfectly. It is not cloyingly sweet. It drinks well and has a nice dry finish with a long lasting flavor profile. This is one that I'd buy again, and I look forward to trying more from this brewery. Next time I'm in Cleveland I'll keep an eye out for other offerings from this brewery.

I've had over 350 different beers in my life and after I took a sip of this there was no doubt that I put it in my top 3. I first tried this at a Pittsburgh Pirates game where they had it on tap and I liked it so much, I drove an hour back to Pittsburgh the next day to buy a six pack of it.

Pours a clear light straw color with an 1/8th inch head, kinda looks like a coors light. It does leave a few lines of lace on the glass though. The aroma is moderate with smells of pineapple and other tropical fruits present. The taste follows suit, the flavor is like a canned pineapple drink with the slightlest hint of a hop bite buried deep at the end. The mouthfeel is light moderately caronbated and crisp. Overall it isn't awful, but it is a one trick pony. It is pineapple straight forward and that is about it. It is worth a try on a hot day, but a try would probably do it.

Appearance is a cloudy pale straw color with little head. The nose is definitely pineapples. This flavor profile is dominated by pineapples and the finish – you guessed it – also has a pineapple essence to it. If you like weak beer with pineapple juice added, this offering is for you. As for anyone else, you might as well skip this novelty.

The best pineapple beer I've ever had from a can, okay the only one. Pours a clouded golden apricot hue with a bright white head forms thick and leaves even bands of lacing. Aroma has pineapple puree written all over it in a good way, a candied sweet pineapple juice note on the nose with some sharp beer notes coming through with wheat and bland yeast notes in the background of the pineapple party. Flavor surprisingly fucking awesome big zing of pineapple with an underlying biscuit pale malt and unmalted wheat it's cereal in nature with big pineapple puree notes kicking through, I'm in love. A bit acidic in nature but there's actually a good base beer buried amongst the jacked up pineapple notes, it's the best fruit beer I've ever tasted there's even some honey drizzled baked biscuits on the finish. It's just pure tasty dessert beer, a bit acidic to drink in number but it's so damn good. Mouthfeel is unoffensive light bodied a bit of a zing from the pineapple tartness, but so creamy and smooth going down with each sip it's amazing. Overall a beer I "can" drink in any form any time, let me know if it's on tap anywhere I will seek it out.

Can > 2xIPA Glass

A - Pours out clouded yellow in color, half a finger head, soapy, little lacing. Looks more like pineapple juice than anything.
S - Just what you'd expect, big pineapple smell, some other various fruits, papaya, and some nice light grass tone.
T - Yummy, really nice pineapple flavor that is forefront along with some grape, light yeast and a little malt, some grassy and earthy tones underneath.
M - Light, well carbonated, extremely refreshing.
O - On a day when the summer heat is on full, this is a great refresher, wouldnt be bad for a good accompanying desert either. To date its the only fruit beer I've ever liked. I hear its even better on tap. Though I cant help thinking this would be so awesome dry hopped with something like citra, or galaxy.

Serving Type - Can

Appearance - Light yellowish green, with a white, foamy head and plenty of lacing.

Smell - Sweet fruits, pineapple, candy, jolly ranchers, grapes, lemon, banana, bubble gum. Yeasty sugars.

Taste - As expected, starts with a huge pineapple flavor. Traces of lemon and grapes also stand out. There is a slight bitter hop presence but other then that, its all about pineapple.

Mouthfeel -Tongue gets the pineapple grapes and lemon. Palate gets the same, aftertaste is pineapple and grape.

Overall - A nice, smooth and very drinkable fruit beer. Its not to sweet, not to bitter. I cant help be think this would be a great beer to mix with, such as in a ipa, or a rum or vodka mixed drink. Excellent summertime beer, or for someone that doesn't like beer.

Served on tap in a pint glass

Appearance – The beer is served a straw yellow color with a tiny white head. The head fades quite fast leaving a small amount of lace on the sides of the glass

Smell- The aroma is heaviest of a pineapple which largely dominates the smell. Mixed with it however are some detectable notes of some tangerine and banana.

Taste – The taste begins very sweet upfront and remains that why throughout. The sweet is largely of pineapple juice with some lighter amounts of a tangerine, orange, and tropical fruit flavors of papaya and banana. Toward the end the pineapple flavor grows even stronger in intensity giving a very pineapple juice like flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is very thin and watery giving the brew a rather refreshing taste when mixed with the sweeter flavors of pineapple and other tropical fruits. The higher level of carbonation that is present is very nice for the sweet and crisp taste of the brew with the combination of carbonation and thickness making for a rather refreshing feel overall.

Overall - The brew has a nice pineapple juice flavor, but is almost too much like pineapple juice for me. It is sweet and refreshing, but not really what I am looking for in a beer. It tastes very much like a sweet hard pineapple juice
