I've known the owner for a while, he is the one who (a few years before opening this shop) convinced me to start homebrewing. So when I was visiting Utah I knew I would have to make some extra time to hang out at the store.
I like to think of this place as the homebrew store for the whole family. You'll understand if you visit. There is even a sitting area for people who don't think they want to be there. I bought several different teas and tea accessories along with my brewing supplies. The variety is pretty good. Some prices are very low, some are a bit higher, it balanced out to being lower than average overall for me.
You wouldn't usually say this about a homebrew store, but it has a great atmosphere. It's a lot like a coffee shop.
I hung out for a while and met some of the customers and even got to sample a couple homebrews. As a side point, what really impressed me is how good some of those no-boil kits were. I had never tried those before. Another thing Heath (the owner) turned me on to was the Fermentis dry yeasts. I made a maibock using the Saflager (@55 degrees F.) and it was very active and finished very clean.
Heath is very helpful and knowledgeable. And while I was there, he was answering questions for several new brewers. I know it can be difficult to start a homebrew business, so I hope this one sticks around. Not just because I know the owner. But because it really is the coolest homebrew store that I have ever been to. Bring the wife!
