Worth is definately not a destination brewery but if you are passing by on I-35 it is worth the 7 mile detour (if you happen by when they are actually open!). The brewer and the bar have stayed true to their small town roots. Very quaint and welcoming. All the beers were good but nothing really blew the beer geek inside me away. I was most impressed with the English Dark Mild at 3% ABV. One of the best, if not the very best of the style I have had. I would love to drink that all day, and I could. The other beers they had on-tap were solid with the least impressive being the smoke rye porter. No food available but they allow deliveries from the nearby eating establishments.
I guess they have a business model that works, only brewing safe beers with extremely limited hours. They have been in business for four years now. Maybe if they had a beer that would bring the beer geeks in, they could thrive.

Great atmosphere and friendly helpful employees. Decent selection of something for everybody brews available year round [I prefer the IPA] and some great monthly specialties. There are also a couple of restaurants nearby with delivery service. Worth a visit if you're in the area - pun intended

Every time I'm in Northern Iowa for business, I make it a point to stop at Worth Brewing Company. The proprietor brews out of one of the smallest tanks in possibly the US, but the smaller size gives him the opportunity to experiment much more than larger breweries I've tasted. The building has character, and that I like. The free WiFi is nice, as I get to work on my laptop and drink some tasty brews. There are a couple local restaurants that will deliver food to Worth Brewing Company, and getting a pizza delivered from a couple doors down is worth it. The hours are limited, but worth the trek to catch it open and enjoy the beer.
As far as the beer goes, there seems to be a nice variety to suit many different palates. As some smaller breweries seem to have similar notes in all of their beers, Worth Brewing Company seems to have cast a wider net. So trying a couple different brews in one night, you wouldn't think they were brewed by the same company.
If you ever find yourself in Northern Iowa headed up I-35, seek this place out and try for yourself. For a small town brewery, this place serves up big time flavor.

The Worth Brewing Company is in Northwood, Iowa. It is in north central Iowa, very close to the Minnesota border, several miles east of Interstate 35 North. Their beers are only available at the brewery (on tap and in growlers), which has a pub in front. The hours are limited, so check their website before you go. They have five standards, one rotating seasonal, and two guest taps. The brewery is located in an historic building with interesting and some historical related decor.
The beers are made in very small batches. It is probably more correct to call this a nano brewery than a micro brewery. The attention to the beers shows, they have a very solid lineup. The beers are excellent representations of their styles (and delicious too).
The brewer owner was the only one working while I was there and willing to answer any questions, very informative.
While they are a bit off the beaten path, it is definitely worth the trip. Highly recommended.

Been to Worth a few times now and it really is a place worth going. No pun intended. The building itself, a 100 year old bank building, is a sight to behold in it's beautiful restoration, but the beer is of course where it's at. The place is definitely a place frequented by locals, which is very nice as it keeps the atmosphere more casual and less pretentious. The beer is great, with a fantastic Mild that to me is worth the trip alone, though so is so much else. And the beer is cheap, I think about $3.50 a glass? The selection includes IPA, Mild, Stout, Pilsener/Blonde and some rotating seasonals and visiting brews. The service is great, though some could know a little more about the beer, but since the owner/brewer is there all the time, that's not a huge issue. Since batches are small (boiled in 10 gal then combined into a 27 gal fermenter, there is a bit more variation than most places, but that also means it's more interesting and fresher. So again, not a problem, just part of the experience.
I'm giving a 4 on food because while they don't prepare food here, you can order from the pizza place next door and they will deliver at no charge, and that food it great.

I really enjoy visiting this establishment. My first time to Worth Brewing was six months ago. I have always wanted to check this place out and wish I would have come sooner since I only live 30 minutes away. I have been back a least once a month to try their monthy specialty beer. The atmosphere is nice and relaxing. The lighting and pictures on the wall are nice. They also have two TV's so you won't miss any big games. They always have their standard lineup: English Mild, Brown Ale, Dillon Clock Stopper, Pale Ale or IPA, and Oatmeal Stout. They also have one or two house specialty beers and one or two guest beers with a nice variety of bottled beer. I enjoy all of their beer but my favorites are the Field Trip IPA and whatever is the specialty of the month. The customer service is very good, also with the brewer Peter usually on hand to answer any questions. Growler's of beer can be purchased to take home but choice is limited (no specialty or OS) and the beer is usually flat after a day or two. They have a very good appetizer menu and pizza that can be delivered from the restaurant down the street. Overall quality and value is good. Can't wait til the next time I visit Worth Brewing to try their next specialty beer!
