Really impressive body and flavor, it's incredibly hard to achieve a full bodied dark beer with gluten-free ingredients. Most GF darks come out with thin coffee texture despite the dark color. This one had exceptional head retention as well, really made me feel like I was drinking a traditional dubbel. No other GF dark beer compares to this one, it's the only truly GF dark I look forward to when the weather turns cold.

500mL bottle Best Before 09/11/26 poured into a teku glass at fridge temp 7% ABV. The beer pours opaque dark brown with light brown head. The head recedes to an irregular ring and rocky island leaving a full web of lacing behind. The aroma is mild with brown sugar, dried fruits and cherry. The taste is semisweet toasted malt with with layers of brown sugar and earthy notes. Minimal bitterness. The mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with average plus carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, good beer. Not on par with the Trappist beers, but better than most American dubbel attempts I've sampled.

2007: 330 ml brown longneck bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. Also available in Norway at Vinmonopolet. This was the second gluten free beer on the Norwegian market, Glutaner (a pale lager) was the first one. Green’s Endeavour is called a "Double Dark Beer". ABV is 6%. Website www. glutenfreebeers.co.uk . Green’s is a trademark of Charles Cooper Ltd. The beer has a dark reddish brown colour and a thick and creamy tan head. Distinct sweetish aroma and flavour that remind me more of cheap fortified wines than of beer. Notes of raisins and spices. Some hops in the aftertaste. No masterpiece, but drinkable even for people who are not "forced to" drink it by coeliac disease.

Poured from a 500 mL bottle into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Pretty dark, dark brown mahogany pour. Thick off-white head. Lasts awhile with nice lacing.

S: Dark fruit and Belgian sugar... a bit of yeast. Smells pretty much like a dubbel.

T.F: Sweet dark sugars up front. Caramel and toffee... some dark fruit and plum. Yeasty esters. Grains are a bit off as expected. More heft than I thought though... and for a gluten free beer this is actually pretty solid. Medium to light bodied.... more dark fruit and sugar at the finish.

O: Again... rating this as a gluten free offering it's pretty solid. It's obviously not going to be perfect, but closer to the style than I thought they'd get. Decent stuff.

L: deep dark brown under a 1" light tan foam collar with fair to poor retention

S: fruit, faint barnyard, dark bread, raisins, and toffee

T: Rich malt, fruit and dark dried fruit, low banana. Hop bitterness is moderate and hop flavors are low.

F: very creamy with a medium to medium light body and medium high carbonation

O: Not quite as rich as some Dubbels but very drinkable.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a super dark brick red color with a one finger head of tan colored foam. The head has a fantastic level of retention, very slowly fading over time to leave a ton of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is heaviest of a lightly toasted malt aroma mixed with some dark fruit aromas of cherry, plum and prune. Along with these smells comes some aromas of brown bread, and brown sugar which add some more sweetness to the nose. Rounding it all out are some light spice smells of nutmeg, coriander and clove.
Taste – The taste begins with a rather sweet lightly toasted malt flavor with the sweeter flavors being of a dark fruit smell of cherry, raisin, plum, and prune. Along with these flavors, and accentuating the sweetness are some flavors of caramel and toffee as well as a little bit of a candied sugar flavor. As the taste moves forward there comes a decent showing of brown bread as some of the dark fruit fades a bit. With some flavors of yeast and a hint of the spice that was detected in the nose, one is left with a rather sweet and dark fruity and lightly toasted taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is medium in thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is a tad more effervescent and prickly. For the mix of sweet dark fruit, moderate roast and light spice the feel is well done and makes for a refreshing and flavorful, but still slower drinking brew overall.
Overall – I really actually enjoy this brew. It has a nice flavor and crispness with an easy drinking but not too easy drinking feel. Quite nice.

This beer pours a dark brown color. The head was fairly thick, frothy, off white, and dissipated quickly.
The nose of this beer almost smells like a BA beer. It's smells like a barrel to me. There is also a sweetness to the nose.
The taste is interesting. Up front I get, like I described in the nose, an almost barrel flavor to it. After that, a sweet flavor kicks in. I'm not a big sweet guy, but it isn't offensive.
The feel is somewhat thin, but not too much so.
I've had some very bad gluten free beers, this isn't one of them. It's quite delicious. A good beer to drink.

A - Pours clear, dark, and thin. A lot of head at first but dissipates quickly
S - lots of maltiness , sweet
T - a fairly light 'dark' ale, sweet, but still balanced
M - pleasantly carbonated
O - I bought this for my wife is GF, she actually really liked it. I had it as well, and if you've had as many gluten free beers as I have, you'd know this is near the top for any type.

I really think that the gluten-free market needs its own category... much like fruit/vegetable beers.
I cannot compare this to a Belgian dubbel that has the advantage of using barley to combine with the sugar and yeast. They evolved for a century or more to go together.

While a decently crafted beer, Endeavour's key inferior ingredient simply will not get good ratings. Because I adjust for that, my rating is well above average... and we should respect the effort that went into crafting it.

Endeavour looks good. But, it does have nondistinctive aromas (in this style, I think malt and fruit; but I don't get it here.) The taste also is simple... to the point of being a bit boring, if compared to barley.
But the mouth is unusually soft... and that may be something other brewers should think about.
Try Endeavour and keep one for your gluten-sensitive friends because they cannot enjoy what we take for granted.
