On tap at the brewpub. This was poured into a nonic pint glass. The appearance was a dark brown almost black color with a thin white cap of a head that dissipated fairly quick. Some messy lace. The aroma had some nice roasty coffee beans, delicate dark fruits and then some sweet milk chocolate. Just a touch of sweet sugar cane at the end. The flavor does a good job of blending between roast and sweet. The milk chocolate and sugar cane to roasty coffee beans. Well balanced roasty to sweet aftertaste. Quick wet roasty finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a good sessionability about it. Nice carbonation. ABV felt fine. Overall, nice porter for the most part, perhaps a bit sweeter than wanted but the brewpub did say they added sugar cane to this. Still, worthy of coming back to.

On tap at the Albany Pumphouse.
Chocolate-ruby black with tan film. 4
Amazing cinnamon-brown sugar hard candy nose. 4.5
Raisin toast and big molasses bite, the big English hop end. 4
Spicy finish and surprisingly tight linger.
Med-full, chewy, viscous. 4.25

Intense! The single point of reference is rum: vanilla, wood, spice, and treacle. Does justice to its Revolutionary-era recipe. Big deep sugar notes make it unlike any porter out there - almost a winter beer. However, it gets worse - hot and unctuous - as it warms, which a porter shouldn’t.

Poured on-tap at the Pump Station, the beer was served in a shaker pint. The beer is a dark brown coloring with ruby highlights and a thin, sparse, off-white head. Nose of rich nut sweetness, with hints of coffee and a touch of molasses. Flavors of roast and bitter coffee on the forward tongue, with a hazelnut backbone. Very balanced, on a light body. Smooth, with a clean, slightly lingering bitter finish. Aftertaste of hazelnut and bitter roast coffee. Tasty.

Flip-top growler filled at the brewpub.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a slight 1/8" skim over the almost opaque dark brown brew. What bubbles there are quickly recede to the edge, with lasting lace. Aroma is dominated by coffee and sweetness. Taste starts sweet, hit with a bang of coffee in the middle, which lingers on through the swallow. Mouthfeel is slickery, with low carbonation, and drinkability is okay. Wish there were more bubbles in this one, and cool about the surprisingly strong coffee character.
