Consumed at the Pump Station in Albany on December 11, 2013. Review entered here from notes on phone.

A: Clear copper body with a thin whitish head.

S: Clean. Cereal grains and light caramel malt.

T: Nice - mild fruitiness, caramel malt and toffee up front. Modest earthy bitterness at the back end provides some balance. Very good taste.

M: Light to medium in heft. Carbonation is modest but active in feel.

O: Very good.

Notes: I'm not sure if the beer I had in December of 2013 is the same beer as the one entered here on BA back in 2009. The beer I had was called "Novemberfest" and the woman at the bar said it was "basically an Octoberfest." I reviewed it as such, and frankly, it seemed to be consistent with that style rather than something heavier like a Doppelbock. It is possible that the 2013 Novemberfest is not the same as the 2009 beer of the same name, particularly since the brewers at the Pump Station have changed in the interim.

12oz pour at brewery.

Notes directly from phone.

CH Evans Novemberfest 7.5% 12oz.

A: ruby red, with a tiny thin head. No lacing to speak of. Swirl invigorates but it quickly dies down.

S: malty and hoppy. Getting some dark fruit notes followed by slight hop flavor.

T: dark fruit right up front. Much like a dopplebock. The hops come in at the end, I'm not finding them terrible though.

M: relatively low carb, medium bodied.

D: very enjoyable. Yes, it's a dopplebock with too much hops :). Spoke to brewer about this one and had a good laugh. Still a good beer, I'll probably have another as I'd imagine this one won't come back soon.

This is a beer style they created. They described it as a maltier and more aggressively hopped version of a Marzen. They said it is almost a doppelbock. I listed it as such.

A: Very clear deep red color. A nice looking finger of white head. A touch of lacing on the glass but not that much. The color is really quite nice.

S: Very big malt note up front. Little bit spicy with a touch of leaves thrown in. In the end you get a little bit of the hops. Never smelled anything like this in a beer before.

T: This tastes more like a doppebock. Just a really different beer. It has that classic marzen taste then a little bit of roasted malt thrown in. The hops come in at the end and really give it something different.

M: Medium bodied. A little on the thick side. Still very easy drinking though.

D: A really different and interesting beer. Not something I would reach for every day but a very nice beer.
