The building dates back to 1786. Very high ceiling. Lots of high tables with stools. Lunch food was quite standard fare, selection and quality wise. Some beers were OK but some such as the Quackenbush Kölsch & Pump Station Pale, were quite good.

Turns out this place is an old water pump station. Huge brick building with a bar, table seating, and a big back room with a nice and warm ambiance that has more tables for a more intimate setting which includes a big fireplace. Their beer was OK nothing that wowed me their best beer was a raspberry and blackberry sour but, other than that their beers weren't that great. The bartender and head bartender were both super nice! talked to both of them for about and hour about multiple topics. They did have a nice variety of beer on tap including a NE ipa (not a good representation), a pale ale, a stout, a red ale, a kolsch, a brown ale, and a sour. U ate their wings which were absolutely fantastic! Very cool place with a lot of history behind it. Very cool scene and atmosphere but as far as the quality of their beers go I wouldn't return.

Can't believe I never rated this place. Many times I meet my parents here and many times I have had stellar beers and fantastic food. Only once I had my beers switched by the waiter with my brother's beer, but I wasn't annoyed. She was fairly busy today, no big deal to me.

FYI, this is considered the oldest brewpub in the state of New York that is still operating, and they do a great job to keep up with the times.

I think it's probably worth a visit to the Albany Pump Station just to see the building and all of the cool relics of its past. Exposed steel beams, brick, and machinery make for an interesting ambiance.

The food is a basic American menu with burgers, fish & chips, steak, pasta, and so forth. It's not adventurous but it's good, pretty much what you'd expect from a better family-style chain restaurant (it's a big place and they're serving a lot of people so their hands are really tied, they couldn't put out anything else if they wanted to). Appetizers are roughly in the $8 to $12 range, and entrees run $14 to $24.

The beer follows a little along those lines, they're not doing anything crazy, they're just trying to please the masses, and fortunately for us the masses have opened their eyes from a few years ago. The choice of offerings is good (12 on tap, cask via handpump, and some special offerings in bottles), it's nicely balanced across a range of styles, and the quality is good. I've enjoyed every beer I've had. And I should note, they do do some interesting things as well: Oud Bruin, Imperial rye IPA, barrel aged beers, etc.

The space alone is pretty incredible. A massive undertaking. Where you sit at the bar used to be a 40 foot drop down that housed large water pumps to get water from the Hudson river to the city. It was fixed up and changed into a brewery after decades of not being used.

Aside from a compelling back story, this place has an excellent staff, food, and especially beer. I have never been disappointed with an experience here.

We have had the pleasure of visiting this place a few times.
The food is fine pub fare, with the specials often being excellent. The service is
professional and friendly. I love the setting, big old industrial building with lots of
natural lighting. The beer is solid, the Brown Ale is a delightful version, the Scotch Ale also
is wonderful.
Prices are reasonable, the selection is quite good, the service is quite good as well.
Worth the trip.
Cheers

Since I'm from PA originally, I like to stop here while enroute back to see family. This brewpub might not have the best beers in the brewing industry, but they do have some solid ones and with an exceptionally clean atmosphere and service, this place does the trick to get some good food and not spend too much time off the beaten path as its right there in downtown Albany. The food is definitely better than the beers. Prices seem reasonable for that part of Albany, its worth at least one stop if you're in the area.

Building is an old brick industrial building with high ceilings, exposed steel beams, with brewery exposed on first and second floor. Always enjoy my meal here. Typically have 10-12ish beers on tap with rotating selection and one cask. Can never go wrong with their Kick Ass Brown.

Food was delicious, and I had their award winning brown dry hopped on cask and that was FANTASTIC.

The draft lines were dirty though, I could taste it immediately.
