Orange brown color, thin head with lacing
Distinct malt and honey on the nose
Smooth, sweet citrus balances the hops, which are Ella (Spalt and Galaxy hybrid) so floral and medium IBU's.
Full bodied ale, natural carbonation
Big fan of Ipswich for many years of not filtering out the goodness of the yeast in some of their offerings. One of the longest running breweries to do so. This is a nice ale, that makes a change from the run of the mill. Sort of somewhere between an American and a British style ale

Enjoyed several of these fine ales on Ipswich Hop Harvest Pint Night at Christopher's in Somerville on August 12. On draft, served in a Shaker pint glass. And rewarded with a nice engraved Ipswich pint glass. A low-key event, the norm for Ipswich for the most part, they seem to wanna let the beer do the talking. Good by me.

As this was two weeks ago, I won't try to describe this brew in detail, 'cept to say it is an earthy, potent IPA, 7% I believe. Different from the great 5-Mile Hop Harvest of a coupla years ago (??) but most excellent. Recommended!

(update: September 4, 2015) Ipswich Hop Harvest, 12oz bottle poured into a Trillium pint glass. Amber dark and clear, malty aromatic. Umma up my score on this one - this is a fine, superfine brew for my taste. A rich balance of malted barley and hops. Truly a great beer.

"Harvest time ale dry-hopped with Ella"
Bottled on 8/3/15 - brought to me un-asked by a pal who vacationed near Gloucester.
Great-looking brown/copper pour with modest but resilient white head.
Smell of super dank musty hops. Leaning towards the onion-y side, but truly earthy in character, and extremely pungent. I'm not real big on onion-y hops, but this is a decidedly fresh, hop-forward nose that I appreciate.
Taste follows well. Base of pale/caramel malt is very solid, drinks like a medium-heavy red ale, accompanied by dank jungle hop onslaught that remains wet on the mouth beyond the finish. It's a tad "one-note" with little nuance beyond a prick of overripe fruitiness (nectarine? I don't know). Otherwise it just stays focused on the viney, sticky, herbal, grassy dankness that must be the signature of loads of fresh Ella.
Overall, I totally dig this beer. As mentioned, the particular taste of this hop is not really in my wheelhouse, but you have to love a fresh-hop beer when it delivers that still-dripping-dew sensation. Cheers on Ipswich for keeping it fresh.
