Bottled 8/24/14

Pours a nice creamy but smaller head that fades at a med pace, decent lacing, quite clear golden honey orange color.

Nose nice bright hops, lots of fruity hops, fruity bubblegum, floral and juicy, mild stone fruit and some mild citrus and zest, little candy malt, sweet reddish caramel like malts.

Taste brings sweet caramel candy malts out front, candy like but not too sweet or syrupy, mostly an attempt to balance the eventual onset of bitter hops but just comes on too strong. Then bitter hops, earthy and slight herbal hops, mild citrus zest, a bit fruity but not much, mild grassy and touch spicy hop but more on the back end. Back end also brings rind, citrus rind and melon rind and quite bitter. Finish is quite bitter, borderline astringent, big orange rind and melon rind, citrus, bitter spicy hops too.

Mouth is med bod, nice carb.

Overall meh, nose was nice with good hop presence, but taste was just a miss, hops never hit their stride, malts came on sweet and candy and then faded as the bitter astringent hops kicked in and they never got to balance each other.

Ruddy golden complexion.

Pours a fine, tight head that crackles and gives way. Thin and weak. Short-lived.

Quiet rolling citrus aroma rewards your enterprise if you bury your beak in close.

The beer balances a curious and distinctive feat of its flexing bitter back end (ragged grapefruit throttled with raw pine and muscular malts) and a prolonged softness (a kind of feathery, conditioning, washing quality as it goes down). The twin effect is quite pleasant in that this number does not simply resolve with the lip-smacking sureness worn so bright on the sleeves of its savvier peers.

Also marked by a sustained tingle from its chock stock of carbonation.

This one is more of a lateral play that unsettles and begs another intrepid poke.

Nice job, Ipswich.

Poured from the 22 oz. bottle into a Samuel Adams nonick.

a: Nearly clear dark gold with an inch and a half tall white head which receded to rocky surface foam and dense patterned lacing.

s; Mild citrus.

t: The creamy texture is the first impression, followed by a tasty moderate citrus and pine hop bite over that creamy malt base. Slight floral and grassy notes in the otherwise dry finish and aftertaste.

m; Medium, nice body, very smooth.

o: A very tasty and easy-drinking fresh hopish IPA, not as powerful as, say, Great Divide Fresh Hop, but with a wonderful creamy mouthfeel and well-balanced flavors.

Dark hazy copper color, large lacy head, significant carbonation is visible.

Smell is the highlight of this beer. Mango is the first smell I notice then citrus and brown sugar.

Taste is good IPA but a little muted and you dont get much of the fruit or citrus.

Mouthfeel is light and well carbonated.

Ipswich 5 mile IPA pours a hazy, almost glowing, light amber with a moderate creamy white head on top. The foam fades quickly leaving behind a thick, netted pattern of lace on the glass.

The aroma is loaded with grapefruit and orange citrus and a touch of pale malt. A little bit of tropical fruit is also present.

Each sip of this medium bodied beer is oily on the palate, somewhat soft with moderate carbonation. The flavor has a lot of orange and grapefruit citrus, pine and some tropical notes. There's a fair amount of caramel and pale malt that nicely balances out the hops. It finishes moderately bitter and somewhat dry with a little bit of grass flavor. Once gone the citrus and caramel malt lingers on the palate.

This is a tasty, hoppy beer with enough malt to sweeten up the bitterness.

I was disappointed that I missed the release party for this, but I was able to pick up a bottle the next week. 22 oz bottle poured into a tulip glass.

A -- pale copper/orange color with a white head that laces really well. Somewhat cloudy. Very pretty.

N -- Not as hoppy as I expected, but very pleasant. An earlier reviewer noted bubblegum hints, which I also found. Hops upfront and some citrus background. Light caramel malts.

T -- Good hops. Not too bitter, but local hops do dominate the tongue. A really pleasant taste.

M -- Not heavy at all. Nice and crisp.

O -- I actually think I like regular Ipswich IPA better, but this is a really solid offering. No fan of IPAs would turn his or her nose at this. Cheers!

A-Slightly cloudy. Light orange in color. Head is thin and bleached. The smaller head really retains itself. It also laces consistently.

S-Whoa! I underestimated this ale. Excellent nose. Great intensity. Very, very hoppy. Clementine flesh and bubblegum hops. Light cracker malt. All about the hops. There are some tropical notes of mango and apricot too. Yes!

T-Very well hopped again. Starts off fruity and citrusy then it flips itself and showcases plenty of pine and grass. Literally goes from tangerine to green grass in 2 seconds. Also, that Bazooka Joe bubblegummy hop flavor pops up. Hop-forward. Soft caramel, and Animal Crackers with a hint of dried biscuit.

M-Medium bodied. Lively carbonation. Quite bitter. Modest resin. Very drinkable.

O/D-Very glad I didn't miss this one! Ipswich killed this Harvest IPA. Über-hopped. Great array of hoppy flavors too. I especially like that bubblegum hop flavor. You could put this bad boy up against several well-respected West Coast IPAs and 5 Mile Hop Harvest would easily put up a great fight; and maybe even win out. Must grab another bottle before its gone or before it stars going south.
