Really liked the Old Mean Stout so I thought I'd try the Razzabeery Wheat Ale. Not loving that decision but trying new things is what it's all about, right? I had this one lying in the fridge for about three months after purchase before opening it. The foam shot out of the 16 ounce bottle like it was champagne the instant the cap was removed. Fortunately a large wheat glass was right at hand to catch the majority of it. Over the course of 10 minutes and 4 separate pourings, I was able to get all of the (remaining) beer into the glass. A huge fluffy head was still there, about 2 1/2 inches high and there was sediment floating in it. The color was a cloudy apricot with a pink tinge and the head dropped slowly and unevenly, leaving some clumpy lacing behind. Smell was orange, spice, malt and hops without any noticeable raspberry note at all. Taste was quite tart, kind of astringent at first sip, followed by an orange & grapefruit mixed citrus flavor with malt following and very little raspberry at all. The aftertaste, what there was, was citrus and the finish was watery. A bit thin for a wheat in body, light. This recipe needs some work, both in flavor and in complexity. Or, they should change the name to disassociate from the raspberry and aim for the citrus. Doubt I'll ever try this brew again.

A friend who works at the brewery shared his large growler with me a few nights ago. I crushed it. I have been onto this beer for a long time, but it has been a while since I had it, as I am not so into fruit beer like I was in the late 90s. I was pleasantly surprised. It is quite a good beer, fruit or not.

A - This beer looks good for the style. Lightly cloudy, golden-yellow, 1 finger of white foam, and a VW on the label.

S - Nice raspberry aroma, but not perfume-like or artificial; more like raspberry sweet tea, plus bread, minus tea.

T - Very refreshing for hot summer days, (or hot winter nights in FL). The raspberry is ever-present, but not overpowering, the wheat is slightly funky but not sweaty; it is very balanced.

M - It has quickly dissipating carbonation, so the mouthfeel is nicer and more sparkling with the fresh pour then with the dregs.

D - Very drinkable, as evidenced by my repetition of the phrase "Can I get another one of the those?

Didn't have high expectations but was pleasantly surprised upon my first mouthful. A well developed wheat beer without the gimicky furit flavors. The raspberry was faint but noticable and carried well in the brew.

An excellent choice for a warm, end-of-August in FL day beer.

Everytime I'm in the Tampa area, I try to hit this place. Love the atmosphere and the attitude of the place!

I'll begin with a confession - this is not my favorite beer style. That said this is one of the more drinkable versions of the style I've had.

Hazy pink-tinged golden colour. Looks a bit like pink grapefruit juice. No meaningfull head or lace of any kind.

Nose is slightly fruity, but distinctively sour in addition to smelling of old pee (sorry). Rather rough edged.

Typical thin, metallic flavour profile, sour with a bitter finish. Somewhat spritzy.

I'll pass if it comes by again.

It’s Razz-BEER-y! Get it? BEERy. Ok then. Nose was medicinal like some saisons and geuzes I have had. Unexpected aroma. Orange/tea colored with a lazy quarter thin head. Dainty tasting beer. The raspberry is not out of balance, but it could have a maltier wheat backbone. Some citrus in the finish. Dunedin is much better with their "scottish" inspired offerings.

A new label bottle. The old clear plastic labels are history! These new labels are more hip! Quote: "Wheat ale with natural flavors added. Bavarian Wheat fermented with raspberries along with a small amount of Northern Hops."

Pours a peach amber hue topped with an instantly settled thin cap collar.

Nose is all about the berry via cherry, raspberry and blueberry. Ale undertones of light malt grain prescence.

First swigs: Tacky candy and a bit overboard on the fruit aspect. A comingling of the syrupy fruit offsets the delicate ale aspects. This is a grape soda malternative wayward ale.

Last swigs: Fine dust cutter. Not stunning. Picked up right in Tampa at the Beverage Castle.

This is a great looking wheat ale. It has a massive head. It must have taken me 10 minutes to pour this brew while waiting for the head to go down. It is nice a cloudy and very, very carbonated.

If I didn't know to smell for berries, I would swear this beer smelled musty, like a Belgian beer that had been aged in barrels for years. The aroma is almost tart.

The taste is a bit tart, too, no doubt from the raspberries used in the brew. This is not nearly as tart as a lambic, though. The tartness is nice and refreshing, which is why Dunedin says this is a good hot-weather beer. There isn't much flavor of berries, though. So don't think this is going to taste like a raspberry brew. It doesn't. I would think this is a positive for those who aren't big fruit beer fans.

Overall this is a nice fruit beer, one of the best ones I've had. Don't think of this as a wheat, since the berry tartness almost overpowers the wheat ale flavors.

A festive and easy drinking beer. Unlike most fruit / wheats, it has very good wheat flavors and raspberry flavors. The raspberry adds much complexity, tartness, sweetness, and overall flavor without overwhelming the beer. It keeps good wheat creaminess, esters, and it's own grain quality. What it lacks in boldness, it makes up for in balance. Good job Dunedin Brewery!

I am sampling this brew chilled and in a pint glass. The beer pours a cloudy tan color very similar to apple cider. A small tightly packed off white head of 1 cm foams up easily and fades to an edge layer. Aroma is very mild. I get fiant caramel and some berry scents as well. Not a whole lot goin on the nose. FIrst sip reveals a lite body and very fine and tingly carbonation. Flavor is lite and sweet with some caramel and grainy malt rolling to a sweet berry finish. A clean and refreshing beer, just not very flavorful.

The beer poured a hazy rose color with a white head which came up slowly and fell the same way, but laced the glass.

The aroma was strong diacetyl. Some slight wheat aroma was present, but very low on the raspberry aroma.

The flavor was raspberry and wheat with a nice wheat flavor and subdued raspberry. The diacetyl in the flavor was restrained and added to the flavor instead of being a detractor.

The finish was dry with a subtle lasting raspberry impression. The body was medium to medium light.

16 ounce bottle. Thanks poundboy. A refreshing raspberry beer!
