Had on tap at brewery with lunch. Was one if their brewmaster reserve beers.
A- Pours dark brown, mahogany edges. Poured into half pint with a half finger of cream colored head. Settled quickly, coating the glass, leaving islands of bubbles on the still liquid.
S- Smooth hints of cherry mixed with coffee. Not much smoke, but great porter roast and chocolate. Cherry gets tart on the finish of the nose, pleasing and enticing.
T/M- Smoke is very medicinal, not too smooth and subtle. Roasty finish, bitter, but cherry adds a sweet fruit component, not tart to any degree as nose suggested. Astringent finish, has some harsh fusels. Smooth feel, well carbonated with a medium light body.
O- Great aroma, taste has some flaws though. Smooth it out, balance the smoke, bolster up the porter backbone and- voila! You may have a pretty darn good beer. As is though- I'll pass and the other 2 I had at lunch weren't that great either...
