On tap at the House of Brews in Jensen Beach, Fl.

A – Poured out a bad ass black with tiny bit of milk chocolate head that receded quickly. Small amount of clingy lacing.

S – Roasted malts, espresso, slight bitter, dark fruit with figs.

T – Nice rich chocolate with some smoky, burnt highlights. Definitely a bitter coffee taste with a touch of vanilla cream. Roasted malt. Not a very sweet brew but has some hints from what I am guessing is the figs and possible plum.

M – Medium to thick bodied and a bit on the chewy side. Doesn’t coat the palate more slides off of it. Little to no carbonation.

O – Decent to good but not great. Missing something. Could use a little less bitter and possible a shade more of sweetness to balance it better. Still worth a try and I would again.

Poured on-tap at the Dunedin Brewery. The beer was served in a pint glass, and it pours a jet black, viscous pour. Light, foamy, frothy milk chocolate colored head that settles very quickly. There are deep, rich smells of roasted coffee and dark chocolate. Very dry and smooth in mouth. Flavors are rich in dark bittersweet chocolate, dark roasted coffee, and a light smokiness that brings everything together. Dry and smooth finish, with a smokey and semisweet aftertaste.

Dunedin Brewery brews this beer once a year & releases it the First Friday in February. This review is from the 2011 brew.

Look - Pours black with a dark brown head.

Aroma - Subtle roast with notes of espresso coffee and chocolate malt.

Flavor - This old mean stout has a sessionable alcohol content while giving the drinker a robust & roasty experience. Taste is roast coffee, bitter chocolate, and sweet malt. Delicious.

Bottle states "Slam this mutha!"

Pours with a viscous used motor oil hue with nary a light splinter finding a way through topped with a frothy sudsy beige cap that takes its good ole time settling down.

Getting some goofy scents here of pine and leathery plastic.

First swigs: Leathery and overly bitter. The flavors are way whacky here. Cola and borderline awful. Maybe I need to try another. Heck, this was only $2.99. It's the silk screened bottle. Maybe it went South? Feels thick but, overall, this can't be what they had in mind.

Bitter hop aroma with a bit of maltiness. Pours like a classic stout, deep blacck, but this one has a thinnish tan head. Flavor is coffee dominated with mild chocolate notes and roastiness running through all flavor ranges. I think it's a pretty decent stout just very mild on flavor intensity.

Picked up a mixed four pack from B-21 and this brew happend to be two of them.

This stuff might not be the best tasting or looking stuff around but if you want a differnt tasting stout then here you go, for this got its nickname here in the bay "Mud Boy" aka "Mud Stout!"

The appearance is pretty weird and somewhat nice, no foamy head what so ever, just a good pour down the middle and you can start up on this "Black as night" brew.

The smell isnt much there , I'll but it this way , if drink all of you stout "Mostly dry's like beamish" and find you glass in the morning and smell it, there you go, thats what Mud Boy smells like.

As for the taste thats something differnt, it would be somewhat like an imperial stout without all the ABV%. You can surely feel that it has the roasted malty goodness and a hint of mud.

Mouthfeel isnt too good, kinda dull, and very muddy/sticky with lots of carbantion

Drinkability is alright , I remember wanting more of these other then the same old borning guinness draught.

So yes I did like this brew, I mean if you a stout fan and sick of the same old , then try yourself a mudboy and see for yourself.

Almost done with my FL brews.
I am sampling this beer at room temp in an english pint glass. The beer pours pitch black with a soft creamy tan head of 2 cm foaming up easily. The head fades very slowly leaving a tight display of latticework entirely around the glass. This looks good!
Aroma is espresso mixing with dark chocolate and some roasted malt as well. As I drink I detect some smoke in there as well. There is also the faintest hit of grassy hops.
First sip reveals a much thinner body than I expected and average carbonation. Flavor is simlar to the nose with mostly espresso and chocolate and a slightly bitter mid swallow that I cant discern if it is from the black patent malt on the label or from the hops. Halfway through the pint I start to pick up some smokiness on the finish which mixes well with the roasted malt. The finish is rather dry which makes me thirsty. A nice smooth beer that is very dark but doesnt sit too heavy. When you remember the brewery is near the beach and it is probably 85 degrees + when you drink this local, the light body is probably a good thing.
Overall a tasty brew.
