Appearance: Poured into a Duvel sniffter; a cyrstal clear slightly orange gold with a nice head and retention.

Smell: Slight grapefruity hops, really slight... a little cookie dough malt in the background.

Mouthfeel: Light and crisp, sweet with low carbonation.

Taste: Thin and bitter initially with a slightly unpleasant bitter aftertaste, it's missing the sweet oiliness.

Drinkability: This was a vaulue pickup at $20 for a 24 pack variety in Philly... I'm disappionted with this one... nowhere near as good as Rowhouse Red or Walt Wit... it's innocuous, but I would avoid this one when there are so many good IPA's out there.

Thanks to Exiled for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a clear golden orange with a white head. The aroma is grapefruit and pine with some earthy hops. The flavor is heavy on the earthy hops but there is also some pine in there. Low to medium bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Thanks to the idiot that blithers that left a bottle in my fridge after putting his boots on my couch while watching the Flyers lose to the Pens.

Pours with a thin head. Amber in color. Smells & tastes like English/pine hops plus a little "butteriness" for a lack of a better term. A very drinkable brew and the mouthfeel is smooth. Like the Yards IPA minus the roids. I don't think that this is an American IPA but WTF do I know. A nice beer.

Cheers.

An average offering from an average brewery. I recently purchased a mixpack of their Kenzinger, Newbold, Rowhouse Red, and Walt Wit. The IPA was average, pouring an amber color with decent head. The taste was hoppy/spicy, but offered little else in the way of excitement. Overall, an average IPA; nothing too good or bad about it.

Everything about this beer was fairly average: the color, smell taste, etc. The malt and hops were balanced but not what I expected from an IPA, more like a regular pale ale and less like the hop-punch and sweet bready malt from many better American IPAs.

The redeeming quality of this beer is that these lesser qualities make the beer much more drinkable, with lower abv and ibu, you can have a couple more. As you continue drinking, the beer opens up and you can start tasting more especially as it warms up.

Overall, not bad, but not great. I would drink more if offered at a party (which this was), but I definitely would not spend any of my money for it.

Crazy carbonation rises well above the rim of my glass over pours with carbonation forming rocky over poured body. This one is a deep piney and citrus smell to it almost a metallic smell to it in the finish. Flavor is bold with citrus and stick piney tones going on, sweet yes but it's off wit metallic notes to boot. Goes over easy with a rough smelling citrus/pine hop accent. A medium bodied slightly oily textured brew that leaves the carbonation tickling the back of my throat. Drinkability overall is decent not the PA IPA I'm fondest of but it promises everything you'll want on the label. Pretty shitty rendition of a solid American IPA.

On-tap at Smith's in Philadelphia.

Pours a slightly hazy copper color with a one-finger white head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving solid lacing.

Smells of somewhat grainy pale malts with leafy and floral hop aromas. As it warms slight amounts of citrus hop aromas waft out as well.

Tastes very similar to how it smells. Light pale malt flavors kick things off and are joined almost immediately by moderate amounts of leafy hop flavors. The hops turn more bitter midway through the sip with the addition of more earthy hop flavors, carrying through to a solidly bitter ending.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a nice thickness with solid carbonation.

Drinkability is OK. I finished my glass without a problem however I'm not sure about another.

Overall there was nothing about this beer that would make me want to revisit it. That being said, it's not a terrible beer if there are no other options available.

Review from notes. Consumed at the Moo Bar.

A: Pours a dark orange/copper color with a slight haze to it. One finger off-white head forms upon pouring, but reduces rather quickly. Spotty lace formation.

S: Lots of citrus, grapefruit and some pine upfront with caramel on the back end.

T: Very citrusy upfront on the flavor profile. There is some grapefruit, pineapple, and a little orange rind. There is some caramel and a little toffee on the finish.

M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Slightly dry finish, but overly bitter.

O: A solid IPA that could be consumed at any time.

Philadelphia Brewing- Newbold IPA

A- Golden orange with a nice sticky billowy head. Solid lacing down the glass.
S- Light crisp oily hops and a touch of citrus.
M- Thick carmelized malt followed up by an oily pine/ cirtus hop body.
M- Sweet and thick up front with a good solid hoppy body. Nice crisp dry finish. Hop oils remain on the tongue.

Overall- A good solid IPA. Totally sessionable and a nice surprising 6pack pickup.

the first time i had Newbold last year, i thought it was interesting, but maybe a bit bitter...before i became a hophead...

not sure if they amped it up and/or i have attuned my tastebuds and senses...

case box says it was born sometime in May, so it's fresh

pours a world class head that lingers a good while and laces thick. deep apricot color.

smell hits me like a Torpedo. heavy pine and grapefruit like any great hoppy brew.

taste and mouthfeel are very unified making for a very thick, chewy IPA. not QUITE as wonderfully 'bitter' as Torpedo, but it's close. there's a nice balance of bitterness and...tangy near-sweetness. more bitter than sweet. a little eucalyptus reveals itself. what is it with all these lackluster Bs and Cs? this is another go-to from an increasing array of choices out there for hopsters to celebrate. to be vaguely specific (!), i would put this between the extremes of, say, Smuttynose IPA and Harpoon IPA. but much more like the Smuttynose...by far. it's the mentholated burn, but slightly softened. :)

the best from Philadelphia Brewing.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Cheers to rpohagen for this one, thanks Ryan!

Pours an effervescent apricot with 2+ fingers of cream colored head. Good head retention & lacing

S: Slight citric hops & some lemons & pineapple

T: Grapefruitty hops, slight breadyness & toffee up front. Slight pineapple, honey sweetness & grapefruit as this warms. Finishes with slight alcohol presence, grapefruit & a touch of dry grainyness

MF: Medium bodied with kind of vigirous carbonation, plus good balance

Drinks very easy, not a world shattering AIPA, but very solid

A - Orange-copper tone. Utterly transparent. Thin head with minimal lacing.

S - Warm and roasty with a good hop aroma.

T - Similar to smell. Thin malt with hop flavor dominant. Long hop finish.

M - Again thin and watery.

D - Hop bite keeps drinkability low.

Served in a pint glass from a bottle. Color is that of a light honey. A short white head formed leaving a small amount of lacing as it subsided. Smells predominately of citrusy hops and some sweet malt. Bitter hops predominate but are balanced with bready malt. Not as hoppy as many IPAs. Medium body and very easy to drink. A good beer although not one of my favorite IPA's.
