I gave this beer a chance over and over again. It was like I wanted to fall in love with it, because I liked the concept, yet it continually let me down.
First off, what exactly makes this a farmhouse ale? I'm not a stickler for style, nor do I aspire to be, but this beer seems a little lost. The idea of a ruby-rye saison is great, but that's not what this is. I don't know what it is.
Rye base. Warm sweetness, cherries and caramel. Maybe just a slight tang of Belgian yeast. But that's where it stops. This beer is at the bare minimums. They should pull this off the shelves, build upon this base, give it some improvements (namely spice it up a little bit to be more in line with a "saison"), rebrand it and put it back on the shelves. They've got an excellent direction and base, but now take it to the next level. Until then, it desires to disappoint (and confuse).
