as others have mentioned, this is a former VFW, which doesn't do the place any favors from the outside or inside. the bar area isn't bad, but the dining room aesthetics leave much to be desired. however, the service is friendly and the food was good. not awesome, but good. menu is large enough for pretty much anyone to find something, even if you're a fan of peanut butter & jelly wings. (?!?!?)

we were there as they opened on a Saturday afternoon, and three of the taps were kicked. another one went down soon after, but at least the beers are local. the bar made a quick phone call to the guys from Breaker Brewing, who were there within 20 minutes with fresh kegs. that was pretty cool.

after the hockey game, we ended up back at the Anthracite for another round. the bar had a good crowd with some loud (but not too loud) music. if they just spruce up the dining room a bit and keep on top of their keg inventory, this place will be even better.

The Anthracite Cafe is a nice little Bar/Restaurant located at the edge of Miners Mills. The building seems to be an old VFW. They have a large selection of beer from a wide range of craft styles. They're not really that big but their menu is huge. The specials change a lot. I had a sit down dinner and everything was good. They have good prices and nice presentations on their dishes. All in all this is a great place that you can go to relax, with a beer suply that keep's you coming back again and again.

An unassuming front, it was a former VFW. The bar is small, but rarely overcrowded, a very personable atmosphere. Clean bar, nice dining area, and good, friendly service. Their food is very good, and reasonably priced. The selection is impressive for such a small place.
The selection is constantly changing and is very reasonably priced. The staff will make recommendations if you're not sure what you like. It is definitely one of my favorite bars in the area, I'd recommend it to anyone looking to enjoy a night of good beer.

Great place to go for food and has an exceptional beer selection. Upon entering I was immediately surprised at the amount of beers that were offered. The bar is an great place to relax and sip on some good brew. Its a quaint little area, and rarely gets too crowded. Bar staff is knowledgeable about the selection and beers usually change from month to month. The tap selection usually includes seasonal beers. Food is always prepared fresh and the portions are huge!
A nice change from the corner swill bars and overcrowded clubs.

Visited the establishment about 4:30PM on a Friday after dropping my son off at college. As we approached it, my wife (who used to live in Wilkes Barre) told me it used be a VFW and that she had gone to her aunt's shower there many years ago. We entered and were told to select any table we wanted. We did so and a waitress immediately arrived to take our drink order. I asked her what was on tap and she showed me the list. I then asked to see the bottle menu and I was presented with a list of at least 40 microbrews from the US and around the world. I made my selection, which was promptly served. I was even more excited about the menu selections. They have specially priced items between 3-5PM, and I was able to order 2 broiled crab cakes (all crab,no filler) fries and a large salad, and my wfie ordered the shrimp cacciatore (which also came with a salad). Each of the meals were under $10!!. My wife took half of hers home with her. Both meals were delicious. If you are in the area or passing through., this would be a great place to stop.
