On tap at the brewpub. Pours hazy deep copper with assertive tan head and thick cobweb lacing like no other barleywine I can recall. The mild aroma has tasty grapefruit hops, pine hops, very sweet malts and semi dark fruity esters. The taste is much the same with solid pine hop flavor and bitterness followed by light dark fruity esters, sweet sweet malts and mild alcohol chemicals. It doesn't seem to meld and come together really too well. Still tasty stuff from this hop heavy barleywine.

A - Served in a nice tulip-style glass. Pours your typical tawny brown. Bone white head stuck around a bit, and was easily revived with a few swirls.

S - Good, but nondescript. I usually don't get too much in the way of aromatics out of the Titanic's beers, and this wasn't an exception. It smelled like a barleywine, that's about it.

T - Thankfully, it doesn't have a generic barleywine taste. Pretty muscular, hoppy barleywine we have here, with tropical fruits, raisin and deep caramel malt countering the hop. Some alcohol muscles through providing a slight burn. Reminds me a lot of Great Divide Old Ruffian, which is high praise indeed, managing to be both hoppy as hell and malty as hell, striking a real balance between both. This is somewhere in between 9 and 10% ABV, if I remember correctly.

F - Heavy and somewhat viscous. Ample carbonation.

D - I'd always heard great things about the Titanic's b-wine, but had always missed it in the past. Now I understand. Worthy of your time and money. It did, however, overpower my spicy BBQ pulled pork sandwich a bit, which is a decent feat. I'm not sure what on the menu could stand up to it; maybe steak or the brewmasters' meat loaf. A fine American-style b-wine.
