Seeing as how Titanic Brewing Company is right next to my law school (University of Miami), I come here on a regular basis.

The atmosphere is nice. Great bar feel to it, which is really what I want in a place like this. Kind of hard to see the TVs, so if you're coming to watch a game or something, you're better off going to other places.

Quality is what it is. It's college-run, so sometimes you get a really attentive waitress and other times they act like, and all but say, they have better things to do than help you. So, in reality, it's a lot like any place you go.

Service, see above. The quality and service go hand in hand for me.

As for the selection, they tend to keep their house brews on tap regularly. I'm not a big fan of their beers, most are too weak for me. They offer your typical light ale (like an BMC product), nut brown, a bitter, a rye ale, an ipa, and an oatmeal stout. It's always nice to go, get the porthole sampler and see what beers taste the best today. Then order a pint of that. The place also has a rotating selection of guest beers (Gordon from Oskar Blues, Arrogant, etc.), so if you get tired of their home brews (and you will), you can always go to a sturdy favorite.

The food redeems this place. They have really gnarly burgers that they allow you to customize on Tuesdays for around $6. They also have some delicious Sriracha hot wings, and their soft shell po-boys are probably my favorite food in Miami. Love the food, like the beer. It's a win-win.

As for the value, I'm from east TN, I'm not used to paying "Miami Prices," so for me the place seems pricey, but to others, it seems cheap. So I'm splitting the difference and giving it a $$ (reasonable).

If you're ever in the Gables, come try the place. The bartenders are usually really friendly and, hey, it's right next to UM, you can't beat the convenience.

Very pleased with service and staff seemed knowledgeable of their line up. Food was above average and for Miami the prices were very reasonable. I tried the ESB which was average but really enjoyed Capt Smith's Rye Ale (one of their flagships).

For the homebrew enthusiast they have a copper and some of the controls on display in the restaurant. The remainder of their heavy equipment is visible behind glass panels. The staff seemed pleased to explain the workings of the brewery. Parking was easy, will visit again.

I have been coming to this place since 1999, and they have never disappointed. On this visit I had the bitter, IPA and Black IPA. All very good beers. The bitter had a nice grainy feel, could have stood to have slightly more malt backbone, but overall, quite palatable. I really enjoyed the White IPA. Very subtle hop flavor, some malt backbone. The finish is somewhat reminiscent of a Bell's Two Hearted in that its easy drinking. The food is average, but hey I never come here for that. The place is a little difficult to find, just remember to get on Ponce de Leon as it parallels US-1 at U of Miami.

Located right next to UM's campus and right across from US1, this brewpub had to fill big expectations for me as the only major brewpub in the south Miami region (that I've really seen) and it more or less delivered what I expected.

Atmosphere: First off, appearance of the brewery

the entire operation is completely view-able to anyone eating/drinking at Titanic (behind Glass), and it takes up a good portion of the bars real estate. from bit shiny copper boilers to giant stainless connicle fermentors, the place is eye candy to any homebrewer (as well as interesting to the non-brewer crowd). It obvious from all the well designed, Shiny, and well placed equipment, That Titanic is Serious about brewing and wears its brewpub badge with pride.

besides the brewery, the entire place strives to give off the appearance of being on a ship and it works. Cool odds and ends decorate the walls, and any section not having something cool on it is dedicated to brewing equipment
I give this one a 5/5
Its a beautiful restaurant, bar, and brewery

Quality: the quality of the restaurant is quite high.

Service: excellent. we got our food and drinks very fast.

selection: they do have a limited selection of beers, with most of the focus on their house brews. However, their quite good brews, so I have to say that it was satisfactory.

food:
-Disclaimer! a vegetarian perspective!-
the menu at Titanic is very heavily geared to fish eaters (as one might expect from the name Titanic), but for vegie eaters like me their is a large selection of to chose from, and the quality is top notch

each of their burgers can be substituted for a Veggie burger (which I did not try but will be ordering next time I head in). they also have a decent selection of salads that can easily be modified to accommodate a vegetarian, as well as a mushroom sandwich that looks VERY interesting.

I ordered a cobb salad with the Turkey and Bacon removed. Even though I was preoccupied with the beer and making notes, it was still a very delicious salad, even if it did feel a buck or two over priced. the dressing was excellent, presentation good, and overall it was a pretty fresh salad.
No regrets on the order but, once again, it did feel a bit over priced for what I got (considering that I opted out of the meat).

Speaking of meat, lets get to the bulk of the review. the Brewery itself.
-The Brew house-
As a homebrewer myself, the first thing I wanted to look at was, well, their brewing operations...and if that is what you want to see then Titanic Delivers!
4.5/5

Price: The price is not too bad. Could be better, but for what you get its rather nice. a good Oasis in the brewing desert that is Tallahassee.

6 pm on a Wednesday. Bar is half full, tables starting to fill up as well.
Service friendly enough but not great. It's fairly loud considering how few people are in here, maybe 20. Can't imagine it with a full, University of Miami crowd!
10 of their own brews on tap, 6 regular and 4 seasonal, plus 2 guest taps.
Food is a bit pricey for what you get. Standard fries ($3) with a sandwich ($9). The Grecian Grill is flavorful and well done with a portonello (or chicken), red peppers, feta and lettuce on naan bread. Good portion size.
Beers are fresh and quite good. (Hey, LOCB like it!) Only problem is how long it takes to get here. I was in downtown and it took an hour to go less than 10 miles. Life in the big city I guess.
The chocolate pecan pie (warm) is well worth it, especially with the oatmeal stout.

I am in town for the week to see the Red Sox in Miami. Doing my best to hit up beer centric places. Found this place in the Southern Beer News and made a point to hit it up while I was in town.

Typical brew pub like Beer Works in Boston. They are located right next to University of Miami too. All the brewing equipment is located in two rooms with clear glass so patrons can look in. They have plaques of all the medals they have one and pictures throughout the whole brewpub.

I ended up going in the middle of the day so service was good and I got a chance to talk to the brewmaster who ended up being from Maine.

The quality of beer was good since they draw beer right off of the conditioning tank. I had the IPA and unfiltered Imperial. Delicious stuff and good to try and East Coast take on these two styles.

The selection is limited, but they do carry some guest breweries on tap from time to time. They also have wine and a full bar too. Overall value was very reasonable too. Average brewpub prices and I am happy to have had the chance to go to this place before busting out of town.

Food menu is fairly small and the items are relatively high in price, granted the quality is solid. Beer menu is also somewhat small, but good. House brews can hold their own, and the house specialties and guest drafts rotate monthly.

Service is hit or miss at the tables, and gets pretty dodgy when they're busiest. Despite the small staff size and work load, they're generally considerate and helpful.

Overall, solid brewpub tucked into a small spot practically right on UM's campus. It's fairly small and gets a good amount of business, which can cause issues for larger groups. Either way, though, can't beat the location's convenience as a UM student.

The wide, green and yellow front had their name above the windows to the right, facing, that showcased the Grain Room and the copper-clad brew house. The doorway was center and opened onto the m.d.s. to the right-oblique. The left side windows looked in on a group of tables and chairs that were on a roped-off platform up a couple of short steps. It would be like drinking in a fishbowl. The "U"-shaped polished wood bar was at a left-oblique to the entry. The restaurant area which consisted of padded benches fronted by standard tables and chairs along both walls and standard tables and chairs center was off to the right, past the m.d.s. Also off to the right, all of the way aft, were the lavs and the kitchen. The back bar was used to display their logo items as well as their Mug Club mugs. It also fronted 4 FVs to the left and 10 SVs also left. Dig for the nautical theme! Don't sink!

Beers: Standards - Tripe Screw Light Ale; Boiler Room Nut Brown; Brittanic Best Bitter; CAPT Smith's Rye; White Star IPA; Ship Builders' Oatmeal Stout.

Seasonals: Turbine Steamship; Tripel Reserve; 2X Ultra IPA, plus a few guests.

I stopped in while in the area on business.

TBC is right by U Miami. It's got a traditional English pub atmosphere (dark woods, red walls, worn wood floors and low lighting) with a nautical theme (and some sports mixed in there). There's a bar area with a large, comfortable bar and a separate table area. I was there on a Sunday afternoon and they had a few NFL games on.

They had 6 - 8 of their own beers on tap plus a few guests. I went with their IPA and it was pretty good.

This is one of those tough ones to review. FL beer options are limited so this one is high with that in mind but compared to other places I've been, it's closer to average. I tried to balance the two. I think it's very good given the area.

Finally went to this place after hearing about it for so long, more for the live music than the beer. Went with my g/f and ordered the sampler as she is a beer lover as well. I must say, as a brewery, they have their own distinct flavor, all their beers will have a touch of it. With that said, I can't say I am fond of their catalog, but...

Their Triple Screw light ale was the one my g/f liked the most, she had 3, I believe, and while there we saw quite a few folks at the bar having the same, it's apparently very popular. I tried it and it wasn't bad at all but I'm not a fan of light pale ales. The other beers in the sampler weren't that memorable but the IPA they brew (White Star India Pale Ale) was horrible and left a really nasty taste in both of our mouths, very hoppy and cloying (to be fair, I'm not very familiar with IPA's this may be a normal taste).

Now, the Shipbuilders Oatmeal Stout was heaven in a glass. If I recall correctly, I had about 5 pints that night though dinner and the bands first set. It was smooth with a heavy roasted malt, coffee flavor that grew on me with every glass.

There was one beer they happened to be out of that night, if I'm not mistaken it was the Captain Smiths Rye Ale, but they were nice enough to allow me to sample of a couple of their guest beers, Ignorant Bastard and I forgot what else. I didn't like either but in all fairness I loved the Oatmeal Stout so much that it didn't matter.

The atmosphere was nice, the service was great, the food was wonderful (I had some really good wings and my g/f had kick-ass fish and chips) and the beer was tasty. If you're a beer lover and you're in the Miami area check this place out, have the sampler and a bite to eat, you will not be disappointed- they have been there for years for a reason. Personally, I plan on returning soon and taking some friends with me.

ps... forgive my lack of beer specifics, I'm still new at this :)

Very decent, university-like brewpub with a long bar, friendly service, an a bunch of tables-some in front to see the outside, mot others for large groups in the back. The beer was reasonably good, the IPA most interesting from about 7 beers on tap including a stout on nitro. Good turnover for their most popular beers, hence freshness not an issue. Depending on traffic, 20-30 minutes from the beginning, meaning to me North, of Miami, and not too far from the airport and tourist attractions. Par for America place for a drink.

What a refreshing change from the other South Florida brewpubs. Visited Titanic twice on my recent trip to Miami for the Orange Bowl. First visit for lunch found an atmosphere with an excellent nautical theme (who knew that the Titanic would end up in Miami?) Sat at the bar and ordered a sampler (The Porthole). Could tell from the first sip of the Best Bitter that I had found a real gem. The standouts included the Nut Brown ale (exceptional), the IPA (well hopped and balanced), and the oatmeal stout (good roast aroma and taste). The food was just as good as the beers. Had the crawfish & andouille bisgue (excellent) and steamed mussels. Both of these went great with the IPA.

Returned a couple of days later to reward my taste buds with more of the great beer and food. Ordered the blackened shrimp quesadilla. This went great with the best bitter. Beyond their own brews, Titanic also featured several guest taps.

An excellent pub for both beer and food!

The Titanic is probably my favorite local bar. I should have reviewed this place long ago.

Atmosphere is variable, but mostly it's just a chill beer vibe, exactly the kind you want from your brewpub. It will be relatively uncrowded or crowded depending on what's going on nearby. If there is a sporting event or concert at the University of Miami fieldhouse/arena nearby, expect a large, loud crowd. Otherwise the crowd will be modest. Obviously, due to very close proximity with the UM, weekends while school is in session will be more crowded than summer weekends. There is often live music, and Sunday is karaoke night. Nice classic long, wide wooden bar - pull up a chair and get comfortable. It's all about the beer here - tanks, vats, sacks of malt are all plainly visible, no bones about it.

While I've had just a couple nights when the beer has been a little "off," for the most part the quality of the beer is good to exceptional. Several regular beers are featured, as well as a couple seasonals and guest taps. There's often (but not always) something on cask. The Oatmeal Stout is a must try, but order up a sampler to get a feel for the regular offerings on tap. The bartenders are cool about letting you sample the seasonals, and will typically just comp you a shot glass or two.

The service can at times be exceptional, but I've had 2-3 nights when it has been fairly clueless in the dining area. That said, it's usually quick and efficient. No big complaints here.

Selection is mentioned above - I think the variety is quite good for such a small operation.

Foodwise, try the New Orleans-inspired menu items...the crawfish & andouille bisque is particularly excellent, and goes very well with the IPA. You also can't go wrong with the jambalaya and seafood pasta. Good extensive menu, solid eats that will pair well with the beer. The fish and chips sounds awfully boring, but don't be dissuaded, it's by far the best fish and chips I've ever tried. As for the wings, they are indeed excellent as noted below, and the value can't be beat in the Miami area. Dirty little secret - I like the food here better than I like the beer. Try the pulled pork sandwich if you like a spicier pulled pork....again, screams out for a beer pairing.

Value - while the regular draft prices are very reasonable, go during happy hour. You'll leave full of beer and stuffed with food, barely making a dent in your wallet. Been coming here a long time, and I still marvel at how downright cheap the bill ends up being, for the large quantity of beer and food we get.

A must-stop for any BA visiting the Miami area, where brewpubs like this are few and far between. The seasonals tend to be, in my opinion, more iffy and uneven than their regular brews, so if you're from out of town and want some decent local Miami craft beer, stick to the Titanic's regular roster. My dirty little secret is that I like the food here better than the beer

I have been to this place twice and I have to be honest its not the beer that keeps bringing me back it's the wings.

I am a HUGE fan of wings and they have the best wings known to man. They give a huge quanity in a big bucket for a wonderful price. The beers they offer up to wash them down is okay, but I would drive from Tampa to Miami for the wings alone.

Everytime my wife has business in Miami I take the trip for the wings. I know this is a beer site so I will move from the wings, but remember if you go GET THE WINGS.

As for the beer they have pretty standard offerings. I like the IPA and the stout. Neither were knock your socks off good, but the IPA was great for cooling down those WINGS.

The place never seems to be busy so the service was great. If your ever in the area of UM, stop by and check it out. Just make sure you order those wings.

The beer and food were pretty so-so though the former was mostly drinkable and the latter mostly edible. Service was decent if unenthusiastic. There seemed to be lots of flyers advertising the music and they did a half decent lunch crowd, but I personally felt like the beer needed a lot of improvement the more I had of it. Other than being in the area I really wouldn’t consider it worth a special trip.

Anyway the interior has a nice atmosphere to it.
As for the beer. very good to outstanding, I tried the IPA which in my opinion was good but I am comparing it to west coast IPA's so maybe this is not fair, and I tried the Captain Smith's Rye which was outstanding. For food I tried the Mussels and the Conch and Crawfish Fritters, both were outstanding. Past couple of time we have gone to visit my wife’s sister and family we have been able to make a stop at the Titanic. Nice to see a brewpub in this hot somewhat desolate beer area. Both times we have gone parking has not been an issue even though the pub does seem quite crowded, Had to wait both times for a table. I would imagine that pre and post Miami Hurricane games the place is a zoo. Has a nice look and feel, lots of stuff on the Titanic, note the name, but done up in a tasteful way. Also a nice thing is that it is a wifi place; think that is a great idea for a pub. The bar was nice, very long showing their brews they had on tap which was a pretty good selection both times I was there. The brewing equipment is a nice backdrop as it is shown behind the bar through glass windows. The brews that they had on tap probably numbered around 9 both times there. I had the Captain Smith’s Rye, Boiler Room Nut Brown, and the Oatmeal Stout all where very good. The food was also very good, service was a little slow but that was due to the crowds when we have gone. Nice range of food selections, I had the Fish and Chips and also the Jambalaya, which was real good. I would say that this is a must visit when in Miami for some real beer. Nice atmosphere.

Located immediately adjacent to the University of Miami, Titanic makes an obvious appeal to the college crowd. I showed up on a Friday and the place had good attendance and a three-piece rock band that put us all in party mode. The music made dinner conversation a bit strained but the band was gracious enough to take frequent short breaks and by late in the night we were all rocking out pretty hard.

The brewing kettle and mash tun get a lit stage of their own that exceeds the music stage for pomp and grandeur. They also get a whirlpool, which I haven't seen in too many west coast systems. All of this is in dazzling copper but it's in a separate room from the fermenters and bright tanks and needs to be pumped by way of pipes affixed to the ceiling above the stage. Curious.

Beers were very drinkable and notable for their warm serving temperature and big fluffy heads. I usually pay more attention to all beer offerings but never did notice whether any guest taps were featured and I didn't see a beer engine. There was plenty of booze at hand along with the six regular house beers and one or two of the three listed seasonals.

Food was very good. The conch and crawfish fritters were damn fine and there was plenty of fresh seafood. You can even bring your own seafood and they'll cook it for you. I had the Dixie Chicken, which the menu describes as "two succulent breasts." That one got a lot of mileage, especially after the third round.

The greater Miami area only has two independent brewpubs that I'm aware of plus Gordon Biersch. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a visit to Titanic for beer, food, and fun. They've even got WiFi.

Post Script: If you're looking for a way to work up a thirst before heading to Titanic I highly recommend a visit to the Fairchild Botanical Gardens just down the street in Coral Gables. It's one of the best tropical gardens in the world, it's in the immediate neighborhood, and they close just in time to catch happy hour. Cheers.

Visited the Titanic Brewery on a business trip to Miami. This brewpub is s bit on a small size. Bar along the left side with a view of the fermenters. On a Wednesday evening around 9:30pm a band was warming up on the stage just left of the front entrace.

Decor is nautical/White Star Lines related (including some neat cross-section diagrams of the Titanic in the men's room). It was fairly crowded. Points off for the bag of rice hulls visible with the bags of malt stacked away in a corner :)

I sat at the bar and ordered a hamburger, which was excellent and reasonably priced. The food selection is typical bar fare and seafood (including mussels).

Titanic runs 6 beers all-year round and had 4 seasonals when I was there (including a DIPA). They also had two guest taps (Avery IPA and Woodchuck Cider) and bottle of beer (mostly Belgian/Belgian styles) although everyone I saw was drinking the house beers. You can also get a sampler of 6 5oz servings of their beers.

The beers I sampled ranged from good to great. Definitely a good find in the Miami area.

Who wouldda thunk it but here is another excellent brewpub in the beer wasteland known as Florida. Its a little tricky to find from simply looking at it on a map as it appears as though its actually on US-Route 1 (Dixie Hwy). Its just a couple blocks away though. I believe SW 57th is the turrn and then its another quick turn onto Ponce De Leon ave. The brewpub itself is on the small side as far as these things go and it is rather non-descript small wooden building with a nautical look to it as Titanic would imply.

Inside there is a fairly long wooden bar along the left side as you walk in. Brewing equipment is all visible behind the glass which is behind about half of the bar area.

Beers--every single one was excellent. I ordered a sampler. It had a gold, an IPA, a Rye, a british bitter, an oatmeal stout, and a nut brown. The oatmeal stout may have been the best oatmeal stout I have ever had. I met the brewer Steve who seemed to really appreciate the feedback and commentary.I told him I usually don't get the oatmeal taste in a lot of oatmeal stouts but I could really taste it in his. He said-"well, we use Quaker oats" And I guess there is the answer---a little higher quality oats and bang there is the oatmeal taste that I seek in an oatmeal stout and so rarely find. Apparently, I was not the only one who noticed the pleasant oatmeal taste as he said oothers noticed as well right after they switched to Quaker.

Anyway, the water they use is simply carbon filtered or something like that. Another thing that needs mentioning is that the beers are served at different temperatures which is so rare in most brewpubs unless you are talking cask vs. CO2 taps. They had seasonals --a dbl IPA and a Belgian-saison ( like Hennepin but more bananna-ish)

Even the bartender was knowledgeable on the beers and seemed to enjoy them quite a bit. She was also extremely helpful and gave us directions to our next destination. The food was decent but nothing spectacular. Pricing was pretty fair. I believe they do have happy hour every day 4-8pm so that is a good time to go. I went for lunch as it wouldn't have worked out to go much later.

In summary, this place is up there for brewpubs I have tried. Get yo ass over there if you can.

Even with the above considered, at 10pm a band was setting up, and there was a decent crowd. Everyone was laid back and friendly. Real good atmosphere.
I didn't have any food so I can't comment, although it looked good.
The service was quick and attentive and helpful. My glass was always filled, and when switching styles, was given new glasses.
Selection was actually good for a small brewpub with about 9 taps.
A very good experience. A must visit when in Miami area.

2 PM on Tuesday afternoon. Not the best time to feel the vibe in a bar. But, when you're on a tight schedule... I'm the only one at the bar so I get all the attention. A sampler of their current taps is in order. Hurricaine Gale Force Ale is the seasonal and is quite tasty. They also had a Honey Blond. It's readily evident why the Triple Screw Light Ale, Nut Brown and Captain Smith's Rye were award winners. Unfortunately, they were out of the barleywine. All beers were well made and very drinkable with the White Star IPA and Ship Builder Oatmeal Stout being my favorites. Food menu was interesting with something for everyone but I only had time for a quesadilla.

I can imagine the place would be rocking later with a hip hop DJ and the Miami college crowd. A definate stop for anyone with a few hours to kill in South Miami or a BA on a beer drinking south Florida road trip. Key West next stop..

Airy, clean brewpub near Miami University and opposite the elevated electric railway line. There are two areas divided in the middle, comprising the left bar area and the right dining area. A small, raised window section is opposite the end of the bar, while the mash tun, kettle, and HLT are in full view of the diners. Fermenters and serving tanks are in a separate room behind the bar. White Star Shipping Line memorabilia abound on the walls, and the ceiling is graced by small chandeliers. Live music every Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

There is a very good range of beer styles on tap, and their ales are of high quality. There is a beer engine for cask ales too, though nothing was on it when we visited. 6 x 5oz samplers can be obtained for $4.50. Some beers are sterile filtered, some are not.

There is an extensive food menu (not a great veggie selection though), and the helpings were extensive too.

Thoroughly recommended by me.

As far as I know, the only brewpub in the southern half of Miami and oddly, one of only a few bars nearby to the University of Miami. A recent, but very welcome and quite well-done addition to Miami's practically non-existant brewpub scene.

While it looks like a chain bar, it's actually just a really well-executed start-up from the owner of Miami's most famous college bar, Coconut Grove's Tavern. There's Titanic crap all over the place, sure, but it's not too over-the-top, and the bar, with it's subdued lighting and glass-walled tank room, is very nice--definitely date or wife-worthy.

The bar features an essentially fixed menu of brewed in-house micros, which range from mediocre (the light beer) to exceptional (their IPA). There's usually a few guest taps--including a strawberry lambic last time I was there--and a full-liquor bar.

A huge bonus is the bar's exceptional food. It features a huge menu of appetizers and entries, all of which are large and very, very good. Even if you don't drink, it's worth a visit for the food alone.

As mentioned in other reviews, the bar features almost-nightly live music. It wobbles from pretty good to awful, but given that Miami is probably the worst city in the entire country for live rock-and-roll, they do what they can.

A very pleasant, solid brewpub. If you find yourself in Coral Gables, definitely worth a visit for a bite and a brew.

A very solid brewpub. And right across the street from my campus! They have damn good food (try the burgers/hotwings--also their entree selection is interesting and tasty)- and always have a seasonal and sometimes a cask ale on tap. The Dubbel they had on tap when I was last there was excellent and served in a proper fluted goblet. Must tries: their white star IPA (cascade out of this world) and their Oatmeal stout, which is more comparable perhaps to an Imperial with it's higher alcohol and punchy hops.
They also have many events that coincide with UMiami sports, and regularly have (pretty decent) bands.
Definetly a must see if you are in the Miami area.

This is a nice find in Miami. As one of the only brewpubs around, I'll take it. The service is usually excellent and the selection of beer is also very good. They always have a couple of seasonals on tap and a cask conditioned (which varies from week to week). The usual selection at Titanic consists of the standard run of beers (IPA, Oatmeal Stout, Nut Brown Ale, Bitter, Light Ale, etc.).
The only drawback on atmosphere is that if you're not lucky, you can strike a night with loud, live music. Usually the music here is great, but they do run open jam sessions so things can get pretty noisy and not really good!!
