I had avoided Bailey's taproom for years because I rarely find myself on the west side of the river, and I just didn't realize that Bailey's was a good enough destination to warrant the trip alone... but it is!
Ever since my first stop, it's become part of my regular bar rotation.
The taplist is always really solid, and I often find beers on at Bailey's that I haven't seen at my other favorite beer bars in town. On top of the generally great rotating taplist, they've really built an impressive collection of very reasonably priced bottles available for on site consumption or take-out.
As far as the food goes, there is none, but they keep menus behind the bar for local restaurants, and the mexican place across the street (santeria) delivers free of charge. On my last trip, I got a huge burrito from across the street, and ate it along with a caldera old growth imperial stout, deschutes black butte xxi, 07 alaskan smoked porter, and hair of the dog greg.
The staff is always friendly, but sometimes the bar is understaffed, and service can be a bit slow.
Still, I never really mind. When I'm at Bailey's I'm never in a hurry to leave.

Visiting Portland from San francisco I stopped by Bailey's on an early spring week-night. I was initially really excited for this place and intrigued by the electronic menu. The menu lists the beers, ABV, style of glass poured, and maybe how much beer was left in the keg? The selection is mainly awesome beers from around Oregon, the definition of a cool local spot to me serves top local beers, so this hits the mark. The service was the only problem, I maybe got unlucky but a specific bartender was a rude wanna-be hipster who poured me the wrong beer on accident and then refused to replace it with the right one. I'll be back.
