Poured from a 22 oz bomber in to a pint glass.

A- Pours a jet black with a rich tan two finger head with a tiny bit of lacing. Settles to a thin foam cap that stays for the whole glass.

S- This smells really wonderful. Chocolate, toffee, licorice, dark fruit, and maybe a little coffee.

T- Roasty and rich with a nice bit a hops that kicks in at the end.

M- Maybe just slightly thin, but chewy enough and adequately carbonated.

O- Solid and well-rounded. I'd love to enjoy this with a hearty meal.

Tulip glass.

A: Pours black with two fingers of light khaki head. Very good retention

S: Kind of a bubble gum thing going on, with some vanilla/cream and maybe chocolate.

T: Coffee upfront, and some roasted malt. Decent enough.

M: Medium-full body and medium carbonation.

O: Turns out to be a decent stout, and easy to drink. Not sure what's going on with the nose.

22oz bottle at fridge temp poured into a snifter. no freshness info.

pours out pretty much black in color, some rubiness can be seen on the edges of the glass when held up to the light. a nice 1-2 fingers worth of creamy, light mocha colored head with some nice big bubbles floating around in the middle. pretty good lacing and good head retention.

the aroma comes off a little light and buttery. similar to other horseheads beers ive had. a little sweet toasted, roasted grains and a bit fruity.

slightly more going on in the taste. sweet toasted and roasted grains, fruity, some black licorice, a touch of cocoa, and some hops in the finish that leave a little bitterness.

could use just a bit more body and a slightly less aggressive carbonation.

of the 5 or so horseheads beers ive head, this was prolly the worst (the blackhorse and hot jalahiem being the best). still i have a lot of respect for this brewery and will continue to try everything they make.

dark brown in color with a huge head of tan that came up and over the top of the glass, reaching a height of close to two inches and staying there for quite some time. Very impressive side lacing as well let me know this was not one to be taken terribly lightly in any means! Big aroma of chocolate and roasted malts. Lots' going on in here with hints of molasses and smooth, brown sugar notes peaking up through a haze of peat. As I take the first sip, subtle chocolate notes override a definite hoppy presence here. Nice full body with smooth, cascading carbonation that really lets it float across the palate

Ok another horseheads brew... Sullivan's stout

A- a dark body with mocha latte like lacing all over the sides. It's no doubt solid for the brew

S- that is like a candy shop! Black licorice, fig, chocolate, and slight coffee. Some sweet scents of cream and sugar

T- roasty malt with some unfermented sugar provides a creamy milk stout like taste. Black licorice is the theme here. Maybe more of a desert beer than I wanted, but there are some good bitter flavors that finishes off as well

M- creamy and good. The flavors are syrupy, but they make it right

O- it won't ever be my favorite stout, but horseheads certainly made a desert beer worth recognizing. I will come back to this

22 oz bomber courtesy of sliverx. Pours a rich black color with a massive cap of dense tan head. Lots of lace left behind. Great looking brew!

Nose is a delicious blend of black licorice, milk chocolate and roasty charcoal. Some lighter fruit shows up, but this is pretty clean overall.

Taste has some nice chocolate and malt flavors and is super easy to drink. Maybe the easiest of any stout I have had before...drinkability is through the roof. Lightly hopped and has a distant bready yeast character. I really like what is there, but I would not mind more body, a certain creaminess and some depth/complexity. Super tasty beer and this would be an awesome beer to have on a home tap system. I think I could drink a growler of this all by myself easily. Tasty stuff, if a bit simplistic.

Big thanks to rageagainst123 for this!

Pours a nice black color, with a medium colored mocha head, two fingers. Dissipates to a nice creamy film and leaves a decent lace.

Aroma is very nice. Big chocolate, roasted malts and a nice coffee finish.

Taste is fairly on par with the aroma, though not as potent. Chocolate, roasted malts, slight coffee, bittersweet, but with some metally astringency.

Feel is just fine. Creamy, and smooth. Medium bodied and robust.

Overall, drinkability is good, and it's an above average stout. Glad I got a chance to try it!

Served in a snifter

Thanks to brendanbeer for sending me this random stout

This pours a deep dark brown color with a tan foam hugging the surface. The aromatics are very weird, but pretty darn good. I believe that initially I picked up a root beer smell backed by some smoke and caramel. The taste is highly smoked with a bit of toffee in the background. The taste has some interesting and quality flavor, the mouthfeel is rather standard. It's chewy enough to be solid for a regular stout like this is. The problem is that all of these components just don't mesh up correctly, there's something all-abiding that I really don't care for. I can't put my finger on it. This beer is very good still, but it's not amazing.

22oz bottle served in a standard pint glass.

L - black with a creamy tan head that thinned to a layer leaving an odd pattern of lacing.

S - roasted coffee beans and cocoa.

T - rich, roasted flavors of coffees and chocolates.

F - medium bodied with a smooth feel.

D - goes down nice and easy.
