Brown pour that turns dark as night in the glass. Toffee dark chocolate colored head with stickily lacing left clinging to the glass.

Citrus hops, pine resin, and hints of dark fruits and malt.

Amazing chocolate and oak flavors that are bombarded by citrus hops and piney needles attacking the taste buds.

Flawlessly carbonated and just the right mouth feel...just divine.

Well damn...I like to be critical and disagree with the norm when they overrate beers. I'm not completely fresh but this is just amazing beer. The dark malt is just the perfect complement and to make things better the beer is creamy thick and sweet in just a wonderful way. Maybe I'm just enjoying the mix here and not being critical, but I love this one.

Served on tap as a tasting at "Horseheads Brewing". Appears a nice, rich black with a decent tan colored 1/2 inch head with really significant lacing. Smells dark and malty and can pick out the hops in the aroma. Taste is very good. I am a black IPA fan - this is very good - hopped well, but not overly so. I can't pick out the types of hops used... Mouthfeel is full and satisfying. Overall a really good Black IPA - I'll buy it again.

Best black IPA I've ever had. Lots if hop, not a lot of coffee/chocolate taste like many of the other black IPAs I've had. For a tiny brewery, these guys really know there stuff and are very knowledgable about their beer. Very friendly staff as well.

Poured bomber into 34oz mug. Jet black, showing dark brown through the edges, with a huge thick tan head that sticks around for a good while. The head is gorgeous, incredibly fine bubbles and it stay forever. Smell is grassy hops and a bit of chocolate, not as bitter as something that purports to be an "india-style black ale" would be expected to be. Taste is the same as the smell, grassy hops, a bit of a smoky center and some chocolate/coffee at the finish. Mouthfeel is thick and smooth. An interesting black ale; not sure what to think of it, but it's enjoyable.

Appearance: Pours a coffee color with a thick beige head that displays tremendous retention powers though the lacing was not as plentiful as I would have anticipated

Smell: Black german bread, chocolate and a hint of coffee; piney hops in the background

Taste: Malt-dominant, up front, with the chocolate and black bread laying down an impressive backbone; in the middle, the piney hops take the stage and add a nice bitter flavor that lingers into the finish, where just a touch of coffee makes an appearance

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body; somewhat creamy with moderate carbonation

Overall: A real delight for the style; though it is a bit malt forward compared to others, there is plenty of bitterness for the hopheads, too; it's just that the malt flavors are so interesting that they should not be overlooked

Thanks, RochesterAaron, for the opportunity. Came highly recommended by you and I can see why.

Sweet extra thrown in by RochesterAaron! Thanks a bunch man

A- Pours a cola brown with a big dark tan head that doesnt go away quickly, leaving excellent lacing

S- Lots of pine notes with some roasty malts in the background. Smells more IPA than black ale, not a bad thing at all

T- Just like the nose tons of pine with a little bit of coffee malt towards the middle of the sip. I'm really digging this

M- Decent mouthfeel, could be a little thicker or a little lighter but not a big let down by any means

O- Really enjoyed this one, if everything frmo Horseheads is as good as this I'll be ISO more soon!

Very dark, black in the glass with a half inch creamy chestnut head that leaves a film behind.

Big citrus aromas up front are quickly followed by malted chocolate. This one almost smells syrupy.

Roasted malt is followed by a good dose of hop bitterness. There is some chocolate and grapefruit to be found. The long finish has a modest bitterness.

Black Horse has a medium to light body with a sticky texture and prickly carbonation. While sweet up front, it has a dry finish with alcohol as expected.

A good all-purpose beer. Best while relaxing with food or a ball-game.

A: Dark Opaque Hue, Passes No Light at all, Foamy Brown Head, Decent Lacing. Really nice looking beer.

S: Mild Roasted Dark Malts, Pecans is about all I pick up from the nose.

T: Again the taste is like the nose you get the toasted malts along with pecans but I did pick up some bread notes as well.

M: Decent Carbonation, Medium to Full Bodied, Hearty, Mildly Bitter they did a good job with this one.

O: Overall, I really enjoyed this beer it was a different type of ale that I haven't had much of and was glad I got to try this one.
