Very little head (<1 finger), and looks not-so lively, yet there is plenty of carbonation visible in the lighter than expected amber brew. Fairly clear bordering on transparent. Almost a sickly color.

Strong whiff of caramel malts and some Belgian-style yeast; overall mild scent.

Very sweet! Belgian candi dominates; the caramel malt is more of a background flavor. There's a slight bright but unidentified hoppiness.

Very light mouthfeel; a little bit of sting; very nice cloying (but not oily) residue. Thin enough to drink quickly, if that's your thing; no aftertaste.

This beer was super underwhelming...until the first taste. It's certainly a malt-forward beer, but it's well-balanced for the style, sweet, and extremely drinkable. I'm not going out of my way to get it, but I definitely wouldn't hesitate to order it at a pub.

No bottle date.

12 oz bottle at about 45F, poured clear orange-amber with a creamy head of moderate size and retention. A good bit of lacing is left on the glass. Contract brewed by Thomas Creek in SC,

S: Smells rather like a lager with more malt and light Belgian yeast.

Tastes more like a Belgian amber than it smells. Also tastes a bit like a nut brown ale. The Belgian yeast is subtly evident.

M - Light body; medium carbonation.

O: decent but uninteresting amber. With the "Monk ..." name and the fine label, I was hoping for a little bit more Belgian style in this beer, but it did become more appealing and nuanced with addtional tasting. .

Bottled - Poured into pint glass

Style - Hits the notes for the beer style

Nose - Subdued a bit but malt and hops are there

Mouth - Again about what the style calls for but perhaps a little more than average
Finish - Initially mostly malt but the finish brings on more of the hops and definite dryness.

A decent brew for a session and a good stater brew to introduce friends to the style

12oz bottle into tasting glass.
A: A rich copper body that has a nice clarity to pours a off white, almost tan head. Formation is good, as well as the retention, that sinks into a soft layer. Carbonation is present.

S: Classic amber aroma, with a bit of a citrus hop aroma. Notes of a bready, orange note. Maybe a bit too hoppy for style, but sure does smell good.

T/M: This is a nicely balanced beer, hop presence is shown, but does not overpower the rich malty character. Smooth mouthfeel, that does justice to the style. Flavors of bready malts and as the nose suggested citrus hop profiles. Lowering in ABV, but still holds a nice warming effect.

O: A good shot at the style and was throughly enjoyed, while not as rich in caramel malts presence, the balance between hops and malts were very well done.

12oz bottle

A- Pours a clear copper color with an off-white head.

S- The aroma is sweet fruity malt, spices and a hint of yeast. Very nice aroma, can't wait to try it.

T- The taste like the aroma is very sweet fruity malt with some caramel and spices. Not bad, maybe a tad on the sweet side but a tasty brew.

M- The mouthfeel is between light and medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation.

D- Overall, Monk in the Trunk is a pretty decent brew that is worth a try.

Pours an amber color with a nice and frothy white head that leaves good lacing. Aromas of caramel and toasted bread, along with hay and a nuttiness, fruity esters, and belgian yeast. The flavor is spicy with notes of rye and white pepper, along with some biscuit and caramel, fruity esters, toffee, pear and some alcohol. The mouthfeel is sharp and drinkability is limited. This one is pretty rough around the edges, with an intense spiciness.

Thanks DmanGTR!

A: Pale amber gold, crystal clear with a bit of white head on top, although it dissipates fairly quickly.

S: Fruity, biscuity, lots of berries and syrup in this brew.

T: Definitely a nice belgian yeast flavor in there. Bready, biscuity, and full of dark berries. Good touch of malt to balance out the touch of bitterness form the hops.

M: Medium body, and typical belgian style carbonation. The finish is dry.

D: Very nice. Not sure if I could do a whole night of them. But very tasty, and definitely original.

Awesome beer!!! I could not be more surprised that this beer came from Florida, let alone right near me

Mellow Mushroom has this on tap for $4.25 in Delray Beach
A: Pours a unique brown/copper color that leaves a decent head with minimal lace

S: Unique smell, notes that are common in Belgians are apparent...Malty nose, hops are not apparent, caramel, toffee

T: Malty...I could swear that I am drinking some kind of Belgian hybrid...caramel, toasted malts, toffee, and a fruity flavor that came out of nowhere

MF: Very smooth going down, medium/light in body, clean aftertaste

D: High...I could drink these all nite...especially during happy hour at Mellow Mushroom
