This is my least favorite of the organic beers.

Pours a nice red body with a one finger white head that falls to a ring.

I smell some danky malt, possibly caramel malts? I dont really enjoy the smell.

Not bad taste but it isnt really enjoyable either.Taste like it smells, danky malt.

Mouthful is nice,sorta grainy.

Sad to say that this beer doesnt do it for me.Im not a huge fan of the style unless its a hoppy amber ale but I can appreciate a good amber and this dont fit the bill.Sorry guys.

Appearance: Not as amber in color as I would have imagined. I think it looks a little more on the brown side. The head retention wasn't what I was hoping for.

Smell: Smells sweet with a slight hint of honey and biscuit.

Taste: I taste a lot of caramel malts. I was hoping it would be a little more balanced with the malt and hops. It would have been nice if they brought out the hops to top off the initial malt flavor.

Mouthfeel: Medium body. The taste seems to hang around a bit on my tongue almost a little bit to long in my opinion.

Drinkability: Pretty easy beer to have a couple in one sitting. Living in Pennsylvania I would have to say I couldn't drink a whole case of it, although I would enjoy it in a mix pack.

Eel River was a brewery I had not heard of, until I saw it on the shelf at Vintage Cellar, in Blacksburg, Virginia, on 10-15-04. I see that most of their products are certified organic, under California criteria.
This one pours a chillhazed, copper amber with a small, beige head that holds for several minutes. Attractive, sheet lacing on the glass.
Nice amber ale aroma, with caramel malt, nutty walnut, and hops notes of grapefruit and orange.
Mouthfeel has spritzy, high carbonation and a medium body.
Taste is well balanced, with a creamy, caramel malt backbone, and a grapefruit hoppiness that suggests Cascades hops. Finish is mildly bitter, with a grapefruit aftertaste.
More hoppy than a lot of American amber ales, but a solid and above average effort for style. I will buy this again.

12 ouncer, w/o freshness info to be perused. Pours darker honey amber, clear, under a puffy dark oatmeal cap, leaving minor spotty lace. Malt infused nose. Pleasant enough. Mostly malt, minor, yet present hop balance. Smooth enough. Nothing exciting, middle of the road style, middle of the road brew. Would do in a pinch is the best I can say here.

Poured this one into a tall pilsener glass. Out of the bottle it poured a deep amber, almost copper color, with a good stiff head balancing atop the coppery liquid. Smell was of hop spice with hints of woody earthiness, maybe oak. Taste was good, nice malt backbone balanced out evenly with the spiciness of the hops. This beer had a really clean taste and quality to it. Very refreshing. Would definitely recommend.

Got this for christmas in a sampler pack. Poured a dirty brown, more brown really than amber with a nice creamy head. Smell was dull and malty with some caramel notes but nothing to exciting. Taste was very odd, Extremely dull with a thin mouthfeel. Maltiness was present but in a very unappetizing way, flavors were all very washed out and dominated by the disturbing flat, watery mouthfeel. Finish was something like when I played baseball in college...after a head first slide....lots of dirt in the mouth. Very odd beer, not well done in my opinion but there is certainly a chance I got a bad batch. If I see this at a store I might pick up a bottle just to make sure but if this was a good bottle I'd avoid this one.

Note: after reading some other reviews it appears a few other BA's have possibly gotten bad bottles as well, I'll definitely give this another shot and hopfully Eel River will have the problem worked out.

Copper pour, tannish to white head, lacing clung well.

Taste, roasted, grainy, minimal hop presence, wood feel, a little heavy on the back end. Not real adventurous, not bland, but just kinda meh. Too expensive to even be a desparation beer, might as well order a SA as its comparable in its non offensiveness.

A: Clear amber with half finger of white head. Moderate lacing on glass.

S: Very light wheat scent, pretty underwhelming

T: Light grain, light sweetness with a molasses and slight citrus hoppy finish

M: Medium body, medium carbonation

O: Really underwhelming beer, was hoping for something stronger with the organic ingredients.

Bottle. Funny tasting. Nutty and mild, sweet, with a very mild bitterness. Some cola and lactic flavours. Really thin mouthfeel aswell, flat and sweet, accidentally bought 2 bottles of this and was so dissapointed i chucked the other one out, really not good. Dull, flat.

This poured to a somewhat cloudy and deep amber. The head was small and quicky shrank to a ring, while lace is limited to a few thin lines.

The smell is mostly of grains with just a hint of hops. In the taste, grains and malts are stong up front, with a mild bitterness coming through at the very end. The mouthfeel is medium.

Pours a nice golden amber with lots of red and a small white head that slowly disappears to nothing.

Aromas are on the malty side...some toastiness and biscuits there.

Taste isn't as sweet as I was afraid it would be...in fact, it has a nice bite of citrus hops from the beginning to a pleasantly drying finish. Amber malts show their sweetness but are quickly overpowered by the toastiness of the malts then the citrus bite of the hops.

Unusal for a red but very refreshing and pleasant.
I could drink several of these.

Eel River- Amber

A- Ruby red with a huge frothy/ sticky head. Thick lacing down the glass.
S- Sweet dry malt. Heavy grain aroma.
T- Sweet molasses malt light woodsy flavor comes through.
M- Sweet and flavorful throughout becomes thick and chewy in the end.

Overall- A smooth and mild Amber that, although won't knock your socks off, will make an excellent poker night beer!

Promising creamy foamy head that soon dissipitates. Amber colour. Neutral slightly malty aroma, with just a hint of hops. Taste is malty and a bit of hoppy,Centennial and East Golding, but not all that tasty.Light mouthfeel, even watery.
Poor for its style.

Attractive deep amber, with tan head and not a lot of lace on my ale glass.

Awesome nose -- fruity, berries, yeast...unusual and enticing.

Flavor is biscuity, with some subtle spice undertones. Seems rather thick-bodied. Tastes rather dull, with almost no hops presence. Flat and malty, this one's not too impressive. Glad I didn't get a whole 6-pack, and I'll stick to Fat Tire, thanks. I like the organic angle, but this one didn't cut it.

Pours an orange-amber hue topped by a half-inch of light tan head that recedes to just a small halo after a couple of minutes. Slightly smoky aroma of sweet roasted malt, light sweet fruit, and just a touch of mellow fruity hops. Palate is mostly sweet caramel malt, with some light fruit flavors and an underlying base of peaty smokiness. Medium-light body is appropriate for a fairly light ale, although a little foamy. Overall, I'm not really a fan of this one. Not bad, but not something I would buy again.

After a day of drinking at "The Bank" in Wheaton, I come home to find a beautiful Amber in my fridge....in the form of Eel River Amber. The beer pours a very nice cleart amber with virtually no head and no lacing. The smell includes a malt with slight molassis balance. The taste follows the smell and there is a very nice sweet malt base. the Mouthfeel is a medium to light boddy with average carbonation. Overall the beer is taste, but I would not go searching for it.

12oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours a hazy amber color with a nice off white head. The aroma is largely dominated by the malt that is both biscuity and nutty. The taste is nutty with some malt and a nice hop finish. This beer is pretty well balanced but I find something about the aroma and taste to be a little odd. Overall, not a bad Amber but there are far more offerings in this category that are quite superior.

Poured into a shaker pint. Cloudy darker amber color. Thin off white head. Little lacing.

Aroma is just kinda malty. Don't know how else to describe it.

Taste is ok. It's just kinda there. It's not bad. Just boring. Ok malt character. Slight bit of hops.

Mouthfeel is ok. Bland.

This beer is ok. Won't buy it again but I ticked it. Wouldn't really reccommend this beer to anyone. But is not like I drain poured it.

Took a chance on this, not huge on organic beers got this from Mid-town Liqour today. This was on clearance, sooo:

Pours copper/orange with a finger of tan head. A trace of head retention & lacing

S: Fruitty, hints of butterscotch

T: Caramel, slight citric hops, dryness & biscuitty malt up front. More biscuitty malt, dryness & a whisper of citric hops once warm. Powdery dryness, hints of diathechtyl (sic) in the finish

MF: Light bodied, low carbonation, skews way too sweet

Drinks okay, I don't think this as fresh as it could be, first clunker I've had from Eel River, not sure if its the beer or its care & handling, avoid...
