poured from bottle into pint...golden with copper hues under a finger thick white head. fairly lighter in color than i expected. has noticeable sticky lacing that should be hallmarks of any ipa. on the nose is a some floral notes and quite a bit of malt. nothing overwhelming. taste up front is hoppy at first but then gets quite tame. some mild citrusy flavors make an appearance then the malts take over and only a faint bit of hoppiness remain for finish. i feel that this is more in line with an apa, but then it is a west coaster, so i probably expected more aggressive dry hopping and more hops overall. does have an excellent mouthfeel. good medium body and carbonation lever is where it should be. i'd say overall a very mediocre and restrained ipa, won't become a staple of mine or anything i would look forward to trying again. not to say its a bad beer, its just far less hoppy than i was hoping for and expecting.

Pours hazy golden orange. The 1/2 inch off-white head fades to a ring and film on top and leaves curtains of lace. There is visible floating sediment.

The smell is of buttered bread, pine and faint citrus fruit.

The taste is of piney hops, bready grains and a hint of citrus.

The texture is medium bodied with high carbonation.

A decent IPA with some pine and orange characteristics.

!2 ounce bottle poured into a pint glass

Appearance: This is the beer's best part, nice orange amber color, nice creamy head with some lacing, the head dissipates pretty quickly. Looks great in the glass.

Smell: Not much of an aroma, not hoppy, more of a malt aroma, kind of yeasty smell, a little hops on the front end. Definitely not as aromatic as other IPAs I have tasted. The aroma needs more pine or citrus aroma to liven this beer up.

Taste: Bitterness up front, leading into a lingering bitterness that maintains a presence on the tongue, not getting a lot of hop flavors, no pine or citrus flavors, the bitterness is what stands out the most but it is not overwhelming. Not a lot of alcohol. The taste is not smooth, it doesn't flow well with flavor. It's bitter, then more bitterness that lingers, it needs some pine or citrus hop flavor in between.

Mouthfeel: Creamy mouthfeel, lots of carbonation, the head lends a lot of creaminess at the beginning but then dissipates.

Overall: This is not bad, as in drain pour, it's just not as good as other IPAs I have tasted. I have been looking for a good organic beer I can enjoy everyday, and this failed. There are far too many IPAs with superior flavor that I would much rather drink.

22oz bottle poured into my FW snifter glass
Notes taken on 03/28/14

A: Caramel amber with an all around blushed orange look. A tight crown of khaki froth forms over top with some nice stay power and a bit of sticky lace noted on the glass.

S: Smells of caramel malts and bready malts with a perfuming of floral hops. Very blossom like with some nectar like sweetness and there is a dash of alcohol coming through in the aromas well. A touch weak as its not incredibly potent in any matter.

T: Taste is a nice step up from the nose delivering a nice hop bitterness that cuts through the caramel and bready malt thickness. Definitely a bit more in balance achieved from the hops which are very floral in character. Some mary jane and ripe apricot notes with a touch of orange juice. And not at all too sweet, it stays dry and peppery from the bitters. Alcohol is well disguised in the flavor. Better than I was expecting from the nose.

M: There is some moderate heft to the body of this beer. Somewhat creamy in texture with a nice peppery bitterness and a good drying sense towards the finish. Lightly resinous

D: Not a great beer but drinkable and was actually expecting worse here. Didn’t really strike me as an English IPA however this might be one of the best Organic brews I have come across yet. Not sure why it is so hard to make a good organic beer but I applaud Eel River’s efforts. Not something that is going to be a regular although worth trying.

A - fairly clear golden orange
S - Sweetness, apple juice, no hop aroma to speak of
T - this beer tastes good. I like it, it just doesn't taste like an IPA to me. Kind of reminds me of an ESB. Nice malt sweetness, pretty good balance, not too bitter. No where near the amount of hop aroma or bitterness that you find in most IPS's. that said, i do like it.
M - light body
O - a really good beer. Not an award winning IPA, but a really tasty beer. Couldn't taste the organic.
