Serving Type: 22 ounce bomber poured into a pint glass. No code date on it, not that I could find, so I am not sure how fresh the beer is.

Appearance: Pours an orange color with a nice creamy head. Lots of tiny bubbles, some lacing on the glass.

Smell: For a double IPA I was expecting more hop aroma, but again I am not sure when the beer was brewed and bottled, some piney citrusy notes, I think this is faint for a double IPA.

Taste: I was also expecting more from the taste but it is smooth, hop flavors up front, then some bitterness. The bitterness is not up to par for a double IPA. I have other double IPAs with some bitterness that is noticeable up front. Nice malt on the backend of the palate, I am getting more of piney or earthy flavor than citrus notes on the hops. I don't notice a heavy alcohol taste. Good taste.

Mouthfeel: Nice carbonation, creamy head, not a lot of oily or resiny hop feel, it's smooth.

Overall: Falls short of what I think a double IPA is but it's drinkable and I would purchase this in a six pack if it were available. I paid $6.99 for a 22 ounce bomber. It's good. I have had other double IPAs that are superior to this but this is not bad.

I love double IPAs... especially the ones that have a higher alcohol content, but are able to mask that with an almost whiskey-like smoothness. Unfortunately, the Earth First Double IPA doesn't bring the alcohol content typical of an Double IPA, and falters when compared to top IPAs.

The smell of this beer is amazing... floral, clean, crisp--almost perfect. The taste, though, is exceedingly sharp... almost hard to take. It's typical of what I've found in young breweries, where the focus is on producing a style without concern for producing the best of the style. I wouldn't consider it a Double IPA, and it's really an "ok" IPA--something that I would drink, but not seek out or order.

sort of underwhelmed by this one, although a good ipa, it lack distinction from the millions of others out there just like it, aside from being organic, which I really cant taste uniquely ya know? it pours a nice red orange color, with some floating yeast bits and a luxurious white head that slowly recedes. the nose on it is big bitter hops and some alcohol. the grains deliver only a touch of honey sweetness to the nose, while the bitterness is entirely dominant. the flavor agrees, although the hops aren't super brutal on the bitter front. they have come light pine and grapefruit notes, but remain primarily a bittering agent. some caramel flavors in the grains, but not enough to offset the hops. the feel is heavy for me, a bomber is plenty of this stuff. it reminds me of something generic from lagunitas. creamy feel though, and happening carbonation. overall a satisfying ipa, refreshing and robust at the same time, but not something I will rush to buy again. it just doesn't have anything to set it apart from the crowd. again though, props for being organic and looking after the earth!

Type: 22-oz. bomber
Glass: Stone Ruination IPA pint glass
From: Costco in Mission Valley (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $5.39
Purchased: May 10, 2013
Consumed: May 10, 2013
Misc.: N/A

Poured a honey orange murky color with two fingers of khaki white head. Nice foamy coat of lacing on the sides all the way down. Very good retention on the top as well.

Smelled wet Cascade hops, sweet floral hops and citrus hops (orange, tangerine and orange rind) with a thick malt and honey backbone.

Tasted a strong whiff of alcohol to start. Definitely not hidden. Seemed to then go right into a bitter finish. In between was earthy, grainy, bready malts with some citrus notes (still getting orange rind, tangerine and orange).

Medium body. Creamy-to-oily texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt bitter finish.

Not too bad, especially for the price. Pretty good value here. That being said, I am a bit sick as a rate this so maybe I’m just out of it.

On tap at Tony's Darts Away in Burbank, CA.

Pours a murky honey orange with a foamy bone head that settles to a film on top of the beer. A foamy latticework of lace coats the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, honey, and citrus zest aromas. Taste is much the same with honey and citrus flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer but I think it smells better than it tastes.
