12 oz. bottle poured into a wine glass. This Biere De Mars pours a hazy golden amber with a light cap of foam. Some toasted malt with a caramel background on the nose. Taste offers a similar malt delivery along with a firm spritzy carbonatiion and a touch of peppery hop spice. Yeast plays a secondary role here.
Pleasant overall and not too sweet. Lack of yeast a factor certainly, and more of a amber/pale hybrid than its name might suggest. Proceed with caution.

12 oz bottle into a tulip glass
A: Clear, deep copper-tan, brew. Pretty. A small head lingers for a few minutes and leaves tiny patches of lacing.
S: Malty nose, with sweet notes of crackery whole grain. Touches of berries and honey linger at the edge of the bouquet.
T/M: Sweet flavor profile, slightly fruity and grainy. Thin, watery mouthfeel. Subdued profile, a bit bland. Phenolic notes toward the back of the sip, almost no bittering hops. Kinda tastes like a light mead, sort of strange.
Not a bad tasting beer, but nothing remarkable either. Missing those delicious, yeasty Belgian esters, and has a watery aspect not desirable to the style.

L: Pours a pretty dark gold.
S: Very caramel-like with sweet breadiness. Malt-forward through and through with some alcohol.
T: Toffee-like, bready, very sweet. Also some perceptible alcohol. Not loving it; the sweetness is kind of cloying and the beer almost reads as a somewhat mellow barleywine; in this sense, it doesn’t come across as particularly “Belgian”.
F: Surprisingly little carbonation. Medium body.
Overall: This beer wasn’t great. I could see this being a decent desert beer, but I probably won’t seek this out again.

12 oz. bottle with a yellow label.
L: Off-yellow, pretty clear.
S: Not much going on here. Some lightly roasted barley, slight cardamom aroma.
T: Lightly toasted malt. Alfalfa sprouts, surprisingly.
F: Proper amount of carbonation and body for the style and ABV.
O: A good beer to pair with food.

Pours a cloudy golden, orange hue with minimal head and lacing. The smell is fantastic. Lots of honey accented by orange and a slight apple. The back end is a pleasant array of spice and clove. Taste matches the smell. Honey predominates, and, in my opinion has a perfect amount of carbonation. A great representation of the style.

Type: 12-oz. bottle
Glass: Karl Strauss 26th anniversary snifter glass
From: Barons Market in Alpine, Calif.
Price: $3.99
Purchased: July 18, 2015
Consumed: July 18, 2015
Misc.: N/A
Poured a honey, caramel, hazy color with 1-to-2 fingers of off-white rocky head, which thinned out rather quickly. A few bubble streams coming up from the bottom along the sides. Poor lacing on the sides. Below average-to-poor retention. (Sight - 3.75)
Smelled honey, caramel, sour fruit, pear, apple and earthy notes, ending with sharp peppery cloves. (Smell - 4.00)
Taste pretty much follows the nose, although not as good. Got pear, apple peel, light apple juice, caramel, sour or slightly spoiled fruit, honey, pepper and candied cloves. (Taste - 3.75)
Light body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt finish. (Feel - 3.25)
This was only my third kind of this style, so I’m not going to compare. This beer had its moments, but something just didn’t work out as soon as it hit my lips. Great value for $3.99 a 6-pack though. (Overall - 3.75)
