A pretty decent stab at an authentic altbier. One of the few made in the US that is indeed authentic. Nice dark brown body with shades of copper. Tannish head that held up pretty decently in an altbier glass. Aromas of grainy malt with Saaz like spicy hop character. Bready, nutty flavors of the malt is topped with a touch of chocolate and gives way to grainy almost astringent bitterness when the malt drops out at the end. Seemed like it needed a bigger mouthfeel to support the bitterness. Carbonation was also wierd, almost like seltzer water, which gave it a bite and gave the malt flavors an abrubpt ending. Flavors seemed to be seperated and did not have a cohesive theme. But the more you drink in one sitting, the better it gets. A decent session beer that needs just a little tweaking to be great.

Stopped by the publick house for a bite and to pick up some IRS bottles. Ordered a flight with bratwurst. Brew arrivedin a few ounce sample pour. Copper color. Fairly malt forward with a soft hop. German crystalized malts. Nice easy drinker nothing mind blowing. Good altbier.
