Another great beer from the rare beer club. Smells looks, and tastes great. Nice mouth feel. I can't wait to see how this develops over time. There is a hint of rawness to it that should smooth out over time.
It has the nice dried fruit flavor and alcohol warmness.

I poured from a bomber into a snifter, dark brown pour with a big white head, light lacing. The aroma is full of sweet dark fruit(dates and plums), and alcohol. The flavors are very sweet, dark fruit, and hot alcohol. It finishes hot and sweet. The body is full, good carbonation. Even though it is very sweet I liked it. The combination of flavors really worked for me.

Clear, deep amber color that appeared almost mahogany. Off white/egg shell colored fizzy head that fades quite quickly. Splotchy lacing sticks in the glass.

Aroma is earthy, malty with some sweetness and the slightest yeast tones.

There is a bit of alcohol as the flavor burst in your mouth. Not hot, but perceptible. Nicely complex flavors. Dates, prunes, cherries and a hint of white pepper. Not much yeast character, but the layers of fruit and malt tones add nice depth.

Smooth, silky mouth feel. Almost syrup like.

Very enjoyable. I like this.

750ml bottle into my Rochefort chalice. It poured a darker, caramel brown color with a frothy, creamy head covering the beer and clinging to the edges of the glass.

The aroma has a big darker fruit presence to it with some notes of cherry, fig and plum mixing with some sweeter, malty, caramel flavors. Nice mix of flavors in the aroma for the style

The taste has some malty, caramel flavors mixing with a crisp, fruity, apple like flavor to it up front. In the finish it starts to show more of the cherry, fig and raisin flavors with a little bit of brown sugar as well.

The mouthfeel is on the heavier side with carbonation being on the higher side. Overall it was a very nice beer of the style. It showcased the malts really nicely and was also very drinkable for the style and abv. Very enjoyable beer overall.

750ml corked and caged, poured into a goblet. 12/23/14 on the bottle.

A: Pours a real hazy brownish dark ruby with a 1.5 finger white head with lots of tiny bubbles. Some chunks floating even in the first glass. Cant see any carbonation in the misty body.

S: Great belgian yeast with a roasty complexion. Dark fruits and a molasses like sweetness. Alcohol is fairly well hidden.

T: A sweet malty belgian taste with a fruity alcohol finish. A hint of chocolate. Dark fruits like fig and raisin.

M: Thick and creamy mouth. Low carbonation. Certainly a sipping beer. Goes down pretty smooth for the ABV.

Overall a tasty quad. On the heavy side and could use some more pep to it. Dont think I would ever mind sipping on it through.

A - Brown pour with a clear foam that bubbles with activity. No lacing of note. Has a slight red hue.

S - Scents of berries, dried apricots, and candy sugar. Gives off a dry sherry smell.

T - Initial sweetness of sugary fruit gives to an acidic bite at the end. There is a slight warming booziness that makes this beer inviting. While not as mellow as some of thebetter quads, I did enjoy the complexity.

M - Balance on this was nice and a very drinkable beer after a nice meal. If this were just ore mellow I'd give it a 5.

O - Southampton may have lost a step recently but beers like this make me look forward to trying them. A really good local belgian quad that could serve better with some age on it.

5/13/2007 $10.99 750 mL 9.90% No best by date.

Appearance:

Cork emerged after much strenuous negotiation with a sad little pop. Pours an odd soda-like color with loads of carbonation that lead to over 2 inches of frothy head that bursts like soap bubbles before settling with nary a lace left behind.

Aroma:

Muted fresh cherry juice with loads of belgian candy sugar.

Taste/Mouthfeel:

Overly carbonated which detracts some points from the mouthfeel, which is otherwise chewy and slick. Flavors are bold ripe fig and cherry cordial with loads of belgian candied sugar in the finish. Alcohol is masked nicely throughout this delicious brew which only suffers from a CO2 issue.

JustinA1 got this in a trade with joerodiii and decided to share. Thanks homes.

Poured into a Cigar City snifter.

Appearance: Body looked dull at first, but it shows rich brown, red and orange in light; nice autumn-y colors. A thin, loose, off-white halo sits atop for the entire session. Wish I had put this in a different glass - preferably one with an etched bottom - but it still looks decent.

Smell: Caramel, plums, cinnamon and spices, and a green grape/white wine-like twang. Alcohol becomes more apparent as it warms, but also adds a somewhat pleasant floral ester note.

Taste: Very similar to the smell, but with added spices (specifically cinnamon) and semi-pleasant esters. Alcohol is a bit more apparent than it should be, but I dig the complexity and overall flavor profile.

Motuhfeel: Actively carbonated, full bodied, and a little sugary/gritty. Finishes dry and produces a slow, warming sensation in the tummy. Not at all harsh.

Drinkability: This was a very pleasant and polished quadrupel. Though not great in any category, Justin and I really enjoyed it all the way through.
