Going into the release I was a bit concerned that I'd be let down by this beer. The concept of an imperial berliner weisse is a bit paradoxical, but if you sit down and drink this with an open mind, I think it's quite a treat. No it's not Southampton's regular berliner, but it's quite nice.

A: Milky, straw-yellow body. Minimal white head. Forms a skim that remains throughout.

S: Lemonade, orange rind, wet hay, and a mild graininess.

T: Tart lemons, oranges, lactic sourness, grass, wheat and bread.

M: Light to medium bodied, gentle tartness throughout, appropriately carbonated, and refreshing.

O: A unique beer that for me, blends the incredibly easy drinking and light tartness of a wonderful berliner with the body and zip of something like Cantillon's Iris.

Pours a light golden straw in color w/ a skim coat white head that quickly dissipates, and leaves minimal lacing. Aromas of orange, lemon zest, breadiness, and a touch of wet sock/wet dog. The taste was big tart citrus up front(orange, lemon, pineapple, and tangerine), followed by wheat, and a finish of delicate herbal quality. Thin bodied and refreshing. Drinkability? Like Lionel said, "all night long!"

Overall, I drank the hell out of this brew on tap at the release, definately the highlight for me. I prefer bigger beers and this Berliner Weisse on steroids was right up my alley. All the bold flavors of the style w/ more kick.

on tap into event snifter. murky cloudy yellow with a thin fizzy head that was gone quick leaving a ring on the surface. smell is mellow with some soft lemon and grassiness. taste is the truth. really subdued and mellow lemon zesty with a mouthful of grass. mouth is a big highlight for me. nice even fizziness. this is a supreme sessionable treat. worth seeking out.
