Thanks Mac!

Minimal pop from the cork though there was plenty of activity during the pour. Effervescent golden body, fizzy white head. Nose is strong and potent, full of citrus and lactic acid. Really like the aroma.

Flavors from the nose bleed into the taste, bringing with them a tart puckering sensation. Easy to drink, plenty of flavor, and surprising amounts of depth that simply were not there ~9 months ago. Splendid.

Uberliner has come a long way since its release. Was entirely forgettable on tap at the release (and soon thereafter from bottles); glad to see it's aged nicely. Makes me wish I hadn't traded all of my bottles away so quickly.

Poured into a perfect pint. 2011 vintage. Bottle #46 of 450.

3.0 A: Nearly clear medium yellow color. Two and a half fingers of fizzy white head. Retention is below average and just a few whisps of lacing is left. I gave the bottle a good stir to get some yeast in it, which hazed it up and benefitted the nose and taste.

4.0 S: Mildly tart with green apple and white grape fruitiness. Quite cidery. Lemon-lime Sprite quality to it. Grassy and lightly grainy. Mild peppery spiciness. A lot of pungent, rotting wood funk came after the addition of yeast to the glass. Not bad.

4.5 T: Again just a mild tartness. Green apple is the strongest flavor and brings the cider component into the taste. Light white grape and lime with a bit more lemon. Grassy and grainy. Light peppery spice again. Wheat, peach, a touch of malty sweetness. A lot more complex than the nose with greater depth of flavor. Adding the yeastiness to the glass amplified the flavors and also made it taste a hell of a lot more like champagne.

4.5 M: Lighter body. Crisp, spritzy carbonation. Superbly drinkable and smooth.

4.5 D: I originally scored this a lot lower than what you are seeing. However, this actually got better as I drank it and getting some yeast in it really helped. Super easy to drink with lots of complexity and depth. Really tasty.

HUGE, white, five-finger, soapy, head. Brew clear is yellow with lots of light oranges. lacing is few and far between.

Lots of lemon and orange. Slight tartness. Bready and buggy.

Nicely vinegary and tart lemon. Lots of white grapey flavors, much like a chardonnay. Very refreshing and light. Dry, airy, and has no bite upon the finish. Perfect feel. Carbonation is moderate which is a nice light surprise for the typically over-carbonated style..

A perfect example of the style, although an imperial. Very glad I tried this brew, Thanks Matt! Highly recommended.

Thanks to Jason for sharing!

Pours a straw color with a nice white head. The usual aroma of lemon, lemon zest, and just an overall lactic acidity is present. There’s a strong green apple note, light straw and grass, and some biscuit malt. The flavor has an almost sour champagne feel to it. Decently yeasty with some biscuit dough along with the pronounced lactic tartness. A touch of funk, maybe some yogurt?

Thanks to Chris and Ethan for sharing this one. I also had it at Dark Lord Day, but I think it's improved since then. Served in a Russian River tulip.

A - Big white foam that has good retention and eventually settles to a big cap and splotchy lace. Hazy pale golden body with visible tiny bubbles.

S - Lots of sharp wheat flavor, which isn't a huge surprise considering this is an 'Imperial' take on the style. Some mild lemon and tangy sourness in the periphery, along with a hint of sweet tarts and musky funk.

T - The taste starts out wheat beer, with notes of banana, wheat, and spicy yeast, before finishing with mild lactic sourness.

M - Zesty carbonation, medium-light body, slightly prickly, with a crisp, dry finish and light acidity. Quite refreshing, and drinks like a lower ABV take on the style.

D - It's not on the same level as the Southampton's sublime Berliner Weiss, but it's still plenty enjoyable and much-improved since its release. Might continue to sour up a bit in time, so I wouldn't mind a chance to revisit this in the future.

Evan was kind enough to pull a bottle from Southampton's cellar for me this afternoon, after my only bottle (#69 of 450) exploded in my cellar.

Bottle number 389 of 450

Poured into my SH Snifter

A: A hazy light golden body with a fluffy white head that quickly faded to thick white lacing on the walls of my glass.

S: Lactic acid, lemon rind, wheat and a faint yeast spice.

T: Really bright citrus flavors up front; lemon being quite prominent. By the middle of the mouth the wheat flavor begins to emerge with a hint of yeast spice. A nice tartness emerges out the back.

M: Light mouthfeel with sharp carbonation.

O: Extremely impressed with this beer. The flavors all flow together in perfect harmony. One of my favorites to come out of the Southampton Publick House.

Again, I would like to thank Evan for pulling this bottle from Southampton's cellar. I have been sitting on a bottle since the release and was very sad to see that my only bottle had exploded. Evan's generosity is one of the many examples of why Southampton is my favorite brewery. I wish him much success as the new Brewmaster.

Cheers.

Thanks, whartontallboy!

Barely hazed glowing yellow with an initial 2-finger white head that eventually settles down and leaves some clinging bubbles down the glass.

Very nice aroma consisting of lemon and melon, wheat, and some sour acidity. Appropriate, complete, and quite nice.

The flavor, however, is even better than the aroma. The mild sour acidic qualities, a hint of funk, lemon, wheat, and melon flavors combine incredibly nicely. The finish is dry and finishes clean. Incredibly refreshing.

Thin to medium bodied with high carbonation. Perfect!

I loved this beer! A perfect, sunny weather, poolside beer that will allow you to keep your wits about you, even if the ABV is dramatically high for a beer of this style.
