Pours a very orange/amber color with an off white head that seems to stick around pretty good but does not lace.
Smell is not unlike a pie baking in the oven. Sweet pumpkin with the cinnamon and allspice being the prevenlent aromas, a hint of clove coming from the alspice.
Taste follows smell. Sweet pumpkin, cinnamon, allspice (perhaps a touch overdone on the allspice) and nutmeg. Like i took a bite of a fresh baked pumpkin pie and washed it down with a mild ale.
For as sweet at this one seems to be it is not heavy or sticky feeling in the mouth, but instead light and refreshing, making it much easier to drink.
I do not like cloves, which is likely why I can pick them out so distinctly in the allspice in this beer, which makes it not my favorite beer, and perhaps why I dont find many pumpkin beers I like, but for what it is, it is a very fine example. If you like pumpkin beers this one is at the top of the style for me.

Had in a snifter.
Poured this pumpkin hard and was rewarded with a finger and a half of tawny cap. Retention lasts a minute or so and leaves a ring around the glass. A ruddy-amber body glows with caramel highlights.
Clove and nutmeg are appreciable in the bouquet thanks to the slightly spicier than sweet nose. Cinnamon and vanilla do manage to sweeten up the aromas, but they are more buried than the headier spicing. The malt base is sweet and doughy. Good nose for a pumpkin ale, if not a little on the light side.
The palate has a flash of vanilla and sweet graham cracker-y malt before an overbearing mineral bitterness takes over. Just a touch of the clove and cinnamon here, but barely felt in the finish over that earthy mineral quality. And it rides hard into the finish, almost an aspirin like bitterness, that is how astringent it is. Unfortunately, letting the beer warm has done little to change this impression.
More medium bodied and watery, not very slick. Also a very quick finish for this slightly drying offering.
Southampton Pumpkin would be a good beer if the flavor profile was missing the mineral water astringency and aspirin-like bitterness in the finish. Maybe this could have been masked with more vanilla or heavier spicing? With so many other great pumpkin offerings, it would be hard to justify coming back to this again.

Southampton's pumpkin ale is a fairly standard example for the style, with big pie spice presence and little else. It could use some more biscuit and toasted malts to add additional malt flavors to a beer that is mostly dominated by spices, as well as a more substantial mouthfeel. While pleasant enough, I don't know if I'd go out of my way to track down additional bottles of this.
Pours a 1cm tall head of light beige-colored foam, made up of small to medium-sized bubbles, giving a somewhat sponge-like appearance. Retention is about average, lasting just below one minute in a decline to a thin ring around the perimeter of the glass and a small island of residual foam resting atop the body of the beer. Lacing is nonexistent. Beer's body is a dark caramel brown color, with light bringing out pale amber hues. Carbonation readily visible through the transparent body, high in number and activity.
Aroma of cinnamon and nutmeg with slight melanoidin characters (light caramel, toast). Reminds me of a less bombastic cinnamon red hot candy, thankfully never reaching the cloying nature of those sweets.
Overall flavor is of pie spices and a bit of light caramel malt character; not cloying, but not particularly exceptional. Front of palate finds spicy cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove mingling with a light caramel-like sweetness. Mid-palate of continued cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove, with continued caramel-like sweetness and a slightly syrupy sweetness. Back of palate finds slightly spicy cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and phenols, with a slight toasted bread character. Aftertaste of cinnamon, nutmeg, and slight melanoidin characters (light caramel, toast).
Beer is medium-light to light in body, with carbonation of medium intensity, leading to a mouthfeel that at first borders on fizziness, but never reaches it, quickly calming to a fully foamy and smooth mouthfeel that's rather enjoyable. Closes semi-dry, with light stickiness clinging to the palate and lips.
